Thanks, JSW. I thought 2 gigs was plenty, so I guess I'll be spending some money...

Now I know how they felt in 28 days later when they found the "answer to infection". I've modded the game quite a bit, and late game it minidumps. On vanilla, late game it minidumps. It's a slow process that you start to notice as seconds take longer and longer. At some point it says,"no more" and minidumps. It's not my system, or I'd have this problem with more graphically intense games, but I don't. I like this game, I really do, but I've only completed it twice now against multiple hard
Do they attempt to do anything with them? I'm thinking about increasing their starting credits/resources but don't want to do it for 20 races if this has been tried.
I haven't tried this with tech or vasari but as advent you can traverse wormholes without researching the required tech. This can destabilize a game quickly if you have multiple systems and find a wormhole to your neighbor's star system early. Is there a way to mod/fix this without waiting for a new patch?
I edited the galaxy file to put an artifact at every planet. It definitely makes the game lively;)
I wasn't sure where to put this, but do artifact effects stack? For example if you find two relativistic factories do you get twice the bonus?
I've found fighters across the board to be a satisfactory balance to the LRM. It already has half of the armor of a light frigate, so why nerf it more?(in addition to costing an additional resource, having less hull points and shields) Just spam lt frigates if you have no other choice. 200 lt frigates vs 200 lrms is a close fight to begin with. Factor in full research upgrades and the cost effectiveness of lts and it's more like 200 lts to 150 lrms, which the lts win. A pyrrhic victory at bes
thx edix
I finally got it fixed. Apparently, something on my usb card got corrupted(that's how I move around modded files and maps usually), and that was messing up the whole works on the xp computers. What got corrupted and how, I have no clue... I'm just happy to be up and running again.
d/led the patch through "update game" seperately for each computer. like I said, though, the 2 vistas are having no problems whatsoever. Is there anything that would affect vista/xp cross compatibility across a lan? The only thing I haven't done is tried taking them all to v1.0 and trying to run the game... and gawd I don't want to.
ok. I have 4 computers in a lan, 2 are xp, 2 are vista. v1.04-playing with mod-no problem. v1.05-vista to vista no problem the 2 xp puter's habe gone nuts, from a different checksum to not showing the other puters to showing them but stating "your gamedata is different make sure you both have the latest patch" or some such. I've tried reinstalling. I've tried reinstalling the network(!!). nothing is working. any suggestions or advice would help.
right after farstar.data is six fighter files. use these to mod the actual per fighter values
emulate civ? hmmm how so?
I can turn the module into a different module, I can add frigates, but otherwise... This must be hardcoded or something, though I'd like to hear about your workaround.
hopefully an area for the modders to answer each other's questions besides just on the forum board
I'm opening an irc channel on sdc called #modding. Anyone is welcome, especially designers etc who can answer questions, but more importantly as a community we can answer many of our own.
@Gabal computers and fish? hmm. more like apples and oranges. they're both in space. they're both strategic. they've both got "phase lines". They both require a degree of micro and macromanaging. one is tbs and one is rts. I'd compare it with sword of the stars closer than with moo3. @Joe don't wail on my Alpha now buddy... give the alien crossfire an 8 at least @Astax I like playing with fertilizer sometimes, when I do I don't want any gold to muck it up
the game hangs after reloading the whole thing 20 or so times, so a shortcut to playtest would be nice.
I never use galaxy forge myself, I like to play random so I made mine with the ingame creator and edited the galaxy file for it. So I guess the first question is did you make it with galaxy forge?
I dunno, even in loose I've watched my hoshiko rush a battleship without orders... makes me not want to even research demolition bots.
I never hated moo3. I just was of the opinion that it would have been better received as a new game with a new title, rather than a 3rd moo. The problem was it was soooo different from moo2, so many things were made difficult to understand what was going on. That being said, this ain't no moo. No ship design. No researching a specific weapon to put on your new hull. Tactically it's RTS similar to moo3, but strategically I'd compare it more to moo1 in that the resources aren't abstrac
planetItemsTemplate templateName "Template:DefaultHomePlanetSetup" subTemplates 0 groups 3 group condition type "PlanetOwnerIsRace" param "Tech" colonizeChance 1 items 4(changed from 3) item "Tech:Module:FrigateFactory" item "Tech:Frigate:Constructor" item "Tech:Frigate:Constructor" item "Tech:CapitalShip:BattleShip"(added) ingame, now, I start with nothing. no frigate factory, no constructors, not
lol I didn't even think of paint. thanks:P
so can I add/change to this file without breaking the game?
