When it's done and they feel it's ready to be released. I imagine it's like driving a car with the kids in back going "Are we there yet?" every two seconds.

I would suggest uninstalling, then going through and deleting any files left over. Then trying to reinstall one more time. You may want to check the registry if you're a good enough user and see if anything is there. Course, I wouldn't recommend changing anything there on my advice, just looking. Also, make sure your computer can see all that RAM and hard disk space. That does seem pretty epic.

Hands down, Terry Pratchett and his Discworld series. I was sad when I ran out of them to read... I also like David Weber, Agatha Christie, earlier Tom Clancy, and Keith Laumer.

I've had 6 happen to me as well. It hurts and the closest work around I know of is simply to use larger numbers of smaller fleets.

Popups sound like User Account Control, which can be turned off from the security center. Start Menu, I don't know how to get around that. Vista runs like a charm for me.

Make sure your stuff is up to date.

It's being updated in the 1.1 patch.

At 1 gig of Ram, you might as well get XP. More than that, and I recommend Vista. Especially if it's free. Even if you don't want it, keep the free stuff for later, or sell it if you're allowed to. :D

Most of that (New ships/other stuff, animations for trade ship and extra cities) is more for an expansion rather than a patch. Sins is a pretty big game as it is, and patches are usually for fixing bugs and balancing. They are upgrading the graphics, though.
