Sins does not have Internet activated updates. We simply require you to download the updates from us.
Oh right, I could swarn you said all updates needed to be activated before you could start the game again. If thats the case, how will I go about installing the update on my offline games cimputer. (No internet at home, only at work) Thanks
but it isn't not required to obtain, play, and patch the game (with release patch versions, at least that is the last word I heard on the subject).
It is for all future patches, beta or not. :(
Why though? I had to use my serial key to register to download from the website so it can't be for piracy issues. I know Stardock's incentive for not pirating is to have the CD key be the only way to download patches but if you make people register like you've done originally, I don't see why you can't continue the current system too. It's to the point that, while Sins is an amazing game, I would not have bought it if I had known this was how patches were going to be handled
Oh well, lesson learned. At least I know now to avoid Stardock products in future as well as EA activated/limited installs and Valves software. Humph, the software industries very own axis of evil! Maybe just stop buying PC games then???
Nope, there are plenty of games around that do NOT have activation. I will make sure to support these in future. If that means I miss out on some great titles then so be it, its not the end
What level is that? Lots of free updates? Interaction with the development and publishing team? Or do you mean that your view of the relationship between gamer and developer/publisher is a license for the gamer to issue unlimited demands in the shrillness possible way? But yes, I absolutely meant what I said. People who have unrealistic or unreasonable expectations or requirements are not someone I want to do business with.
Its jus
Furthermore, nothing is ever mentioned about support on the box because support is not included in the box. This is the central flaw of your argument, your assumption that when you bought the game, you paid for the support and thus have expectations for how it's handled. But it's the wrong assumption.
I was going to go home last night and quote the warranty section out of the manual that would usually say something like "free from defects for 90 days or y
I did a lengthy inteview with Shacknews last week and they asked what my beef was with single player games that need to call home and I used the example of people working in the armed forces who may not have access to the Internet.
What about those people who can not connect their gaming computers to the internet (for whatever reason) but still need to patch their games due to a release bug?
Quoting Frogboy, reply 10 If that is considered "too much" by some people then frankly, those aren't customers I want to have and I would absolutely prefer they never purchase anything from us again - ever. If that's the way you feel you have to react to a fan/customer who bought your game ? No problem !!! Goodbye, wish you the best of luck!
Thats one way or losing customers! At lea
patching is free post release support for the consumers
Patches are fixes to the product that were paid for out of the retail cost of the product itself. Updates are extra content that is usually charged for or released for free to customers who paid for the origional. Most companies mix patches and upgrades together as its easier to do one patch/upgrade then seperate ones. My argument is that I hvae paid for the patches (I was not given a discou
Quoting Shipmaster, reply 14 I bought the retail version of this game and do not play online.
nope, you have to either download it somewhere or "find" an online computer, put the program on a USB, CD, floppy or anything of the sort then bring it back to your offline computer and instal fomr the USB, CD etcyou cna also just take patches via the USB, CD etc. but then you dont have the awesome Impulse client "dont mind the joke plz"
I tried installing the full version of Impulse (44 odd MB (was not easy to find)) and upon loading it immediately wanted my
bbtestbob there is no mandatory online-login the moment you put in your account detials you can switch it to offline mode
Does that mean I can install this on an offline computer, put in the account details click offline and then do an archive restore? (without having to ever go online) Thanks
Yarlen said:
If you don't have an Internet connection on your gaming rig for some reason, it's very easy to update a copy of Sins on an Internet-connected PC, archive that, and then burn it to disc.
Are there really people out there who play this game AND have no internet access?
Me for one. Use to download the patches at work on the Win 2K machine so I could play the mods.
And to be perfectly honest, I would sooner do without customers who are pains in the asses on petty crap like this.
Looks like the trust has finally come out. Unless you are willing to dance to the stardock DRM tune you can go **** yourself. So much for being able to talk about it and express an opinion. Not that you will miss it but its looks like I will be taking my business elsewhere in future. Its not the Impulse thing that annoyed me it was how it was introd
You chose to not buy a computer game because you have to install a non invasive method, non detrimental to your computer or privacy, of applying the latest free updates to the games.
Nothing in life is free. The costs of supporting the product would have been calculated against continuing sales of the product and the sale price at the very least.
You also need: - sufficient drive space to download the game - sufficient permissions to transfer it to another medium - a big enough flash drive (if you don't then you need to spend even more money) or a dvd burner and disks. Would it be possible to get Impulse to archive the game in such a way so that it could be installed on an offline computer without having to install Impulse on the offline computer or have any sort of permission to run what you have alre
I then urge Stardock to rewrite the about page about Sins, and state clearly that Impulse is needed, Windows XP or greater and a internet connection. Since by doing this, Stardock has stated it clear that Sins has it demands.
If this had been stated clearly on the box (and not hidden inside it (Most shops don't allow refunds if you don't agree with the EULA after opening the box (even though you can not see it until the box is open!))) then I would not have a problem with
All updates going forware are going to be on Impulse. There won't be stand-alone patches. If that is a problem, you have the option of not downloading the patches. It's not really open to discussion. Debating it is completely academic.
So what you saying is that for people like me (no Internet access at home and work computers use Windows 2000 (so even the convoluted Impulse method does not work)) is that you will be providing zero support for the product you sold and so
Its not the concept of Impulse that I have a problem with. Its the fact that no where on the outside of the box did it say that a. I need to activate any patches I install via the Internet (admitting only once per Sins copy) b. Can only get the patches via Impulse c. There are no normal stand alone offline patches. I bought the game based on what was on the box. Not what they intended to implement several months down the line. I have no problem with them doing all futur
It's still an offline product, and no one is forcing you to get the latest updates. In fact, you wouldnt have anything to complain about if they just stopped supporting their game with patches at all, so shut ur mouth.
I see your an open minded person that takes everyone’s view point into consideration before constructing your thoughtful reply!
