You dont actually use the tool to do that. In the download is the original data files converted into text. You create a mod directory in the right place, copy the original game files in, then edit the text files you want to change and then copy them over the original ones in the mod directory. Then load the mod before playing.
The only thing in our solar system worth fighting over is Earth, and that happens to already be inhabited. Technical issues aside, there is no reason for space fighters. What in the hell kind of factions would be separated by distances in outer space, and why in the hell would they fight each other?--It's a rhetorical question. Don't try to come up with an answer, or you'll sound like an idiot.
Do you actually READ any science fiction books at all ? Do you ac

I think I saw something that said that only 3 weapon types can be defined on a ship. The Kol already has all 3 if I remember rightly. What you can do, is change the firepower of each weapon for each direction. Each capital ship tends to have a lot of firepower in one or 2 directions and you can rebalance this.

Yikes, this moved on a lot since I last read. Couple of comments. Nukes : Someone presses the button and sends nukes at another country. Is that country going to say "Oh dear, game over, we lost." ? No, they will fire their own in retaliation, or they will ask an ally to fire theres if they havent got any. The world still has enough nuclear weapons to destroy all life on this planet many times over, and anyone who thinks they can win a nuclear war is kidding themselves. The de

Your arguing the future from the perspective of now. Sure, I agree that it requires a mature society to handle the responsibility of all that power. And that the human race is currently still in nappies in that regard. It doesnt mean that it cannot be achieved given enough time. Your overlooking one major advance. The atomic bomb has been around for 50 odd years now, and has had the potential to remove all life from the planet, and so far, no-one has pushed the button. That at

Your assuming the technology for such will not be in place. Why make that assumption ? Why cant computers have advanced to the degree where moving a joystick in space has the same effect of moving the joystick in atmosphere ? So the mechanics of what happens is different. It will all advance together. Most of whats just been said is based on todays understanding of how things work, and that cannot be assumed.

I did try modding that so TEC could do that as well, but never got it to work. I suspect that thres a hardcode issue. So what I did instead was speed up the TEC jumping :) After all, traders want to get to market as fast as possible ! :)

It was an afterthought, but is most likely playing with 1.05 and an earlier mod, or 1.09 which doesnt have any compatible mods yet.
Don't mistake my point. I'm not advocating the use of ballistic warfare in space, I'm arguing against all warfare in space. It's pointless, uneconomical, and mutually destructive. Terrestrial wars are much cleaner.-Dr. B
The way I look at it, if you wait until the enemy is landing on your planet to counter attack, then you have already lost. You never ever allow the battle to be faught on yo

Also click the box so that the mod is loaded with the game. Otherwise, when you load a save after ending the program for a break, you will need to manually reenable the mod again. If you dont, the save will load and then run on the normal game, not the mod. Which mod are you using and what is it your expecting to see ? Someone who is familiar with the mod may be able to explain it to you. Also, have you checked that the mods are compatible with the version of the game you are

I'll amend my last post by saying that I expect all ships to need some level of fuel, but that there is 2 sorts. The first is what most people seem to think fighters will carry, being the same as fuel now. The other is the equivalent of submarienes nuclear reactors. While they need something added to keep them running, its a long term engine, not a short term one. Everyone assumes fighters will have a short term engine and I think that even fighters will have an engine that doesnt req

Yes. Its the hard coded limits that always become the game breaker for me. How big a fleet you have, and what defenses you have should all be a factor of your economy and how much money you have, not a obitary limitation by a dev. The gauss guns are ineffective in small numbers. If you could build 100 of them, then they would be very effective. Building that many should be the players decision, not the dev's.

The need for fuel is imo, too limiting. I've always had a problem with space games that had a requirement for refueling. By the time we get to an era with space combat of the likes of most games, the engines will be in existance that do not require fuel of the sort that runs out. I dont know why people keep getting hung up on the fuel issue, which is a now thing. We dont now have the ability to power a ship with a fusion drive, or make such a fusion drive small enough to fit in a figh

A lot of the discussion here seems to be based on current technology and current understanding of things. The whole point about scifi is the invention of technology to allow something to exist. So in terms of fighters in space, there is no point being critical about something without looking at all of the technology behind it. Just because we cant do something now, does not mean it wont be possible in the future, and lets face it, most scifi games are set well into the

One of the advantages of buying the box here in Australia is the 7 day return policy. :) It allows you to try it first, especially ensure that it will run on your computer and that the game is 'playable'. I work on the basis that if I'm playing it 2 days later, and enjoying it, then its worth the money and it doesnt go back. But if the first 2 days are nothing but aggro and inability to do anything, or it keeps crashing with no patch available to fix it, it goes back.

The big problem with "real time" in games is that it isnt realistic. So you are the Emporer...in real time you give countless minions orders that they all go off and do at the same time, them giving orders to others. So your orders take minutes to deliver, and the guts of it is done by others. But in games, particularly those that demand micromanaging, you have to do ALL the work yourself. So what should take a few minutes to initiate, can take you hours. And in those hours of

Well....I used what I learnt in Sins, to mod Moo3 and replayed it. Never even occured to me to go back to 1 or 2. I micromanage moo3 until I get so many planets that I have an abundance of resources, then I let the AI do what it wants. Thats usually fairly early on too. I make sure I have a series of planets built for industry for later in the game (which means providing dedicated planets for food and mining), but after the first 25 planets or so, I let it do its thing (and I dont use

Taking ages is the whole point ! :) If the game doesnt last 3 days at least, then its too short for my liking. Thats one reason I make my own maps. The smaller random maps are designed for fast total combat games and I prefer a slow strategic game. Games that take only a few hours to play are of absolutely no interest to me.

Lock the teams. Your trying to play the game the hardest way possible. I either play with locked teams and everyone is at everyone, or I team up all the vasari in 1 team and all the advent in another. Then its me against 2 teams, who also hate each other. It also helps if you play on maps with few phase lanes, so that you only ahve at most 3 choke points to worry about. Then as TEC, you put as many repair bays as you can in the entry path of the block point, so that yo

Time is a function of the map. When you play in a map with maximum phase lines, you do not have any time because all planets are vulnerable. When you play a large map with minimum phase lines, you have plenty of time ! Thats because block points are exactly that, and properly done keep everything out of your space while you do other things. I always play with minimum phase lanes on huge maps, and I get the research done by mid game, and then start accumulating credits

I found the planet shield to be pretty useless. Some special ability just turns it off for long enough to take the planet down anyway. Having multiples just means no other defenses, making the shields vulnerable to conventional attack, and in any case, more ships wiht the ability will just turn them all off long enough to take down the planet. No point imo. Defenses should be real defenses. The game doesnt really have any I'd call a serious defense. As someone said, its designed for o

I thought the TEC defenses were a joke when I first looked at them. The whole idea of fixed defenses is to defend. And short of a full fleet jumping in, they should be effective at defending. The Gauss is a short range pop gun that you cannot build enough of them to adequately defend the entire gravity well, and you cannot build enough hangers to be enough of a defence either. So I modded the guass so that fully upgraded it hits with about 90, and in a range that covers the entire gra
