So if I make a second trade port inside the same exact gravity well, it will give me the same as the first one? I don't think that's right, is it? I always seem to get less resources and credits for every trade port/refinery placed after the first, in the same gravity well. At least, it really seems that way.

I'm playing with Distant Stars 1.0, and the only thing that's arguably rarely used that I was building was lots of Kol Battleships. Nobody uses those, lol.

That's the thing. I've played games much larger than the one I'm having these stutters in without problems. This is just a 1v1. I should also add, that it only started like 3 hours into the game, a few minutes after I began accelerating the gamespeed to x4. It was fine before then, and our fleet sizes hadn't changed that much.

I just went through all 79 of my processes on Windows Task Manager and changed them all to core 3, and sins to core 0, but that didn't help. Before that I changed the priority to High and that also did nothing. On my motherboards tuner program, my CPU is still showing spikes run up to 100% right after the freezes end, so you're right, my CPU is maxing out, but only for a few seconds. Otherwise it's showing Core 0 running at 50-60% most of the time for Sins.

Here are my specs. Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V LX Processor: Intel Core i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz RAM: CORSAIR Dual-channel DDR3 1600mhz 8GB (2 X 2GB) GFX: XFX HD Raedon 5870 PSU: Corsair HX 650w Professional Series OS: Windows 7 Professional (64bit) I normally do not have a problem running this game. I can go an entire 4 player FFA session without experiencing this problem, but sometimes, it just randomly starts doing it then

[quote who="Talon_Karrde45" reply="3" id="3093187"]I would be willing to play some games, I haven't played much since last summer but we had a decent sized group going then and ran 3v3s at least on a weekly basis, alot of 1v1s or 2v2s in between. The group kinda fell apart though so I haven't played since. I was one if the better players out of the group and would be willing to show you the basics of multiplayer but i warn you that once you do you will never play singleplayer again...

I noticed this awhile ago but never really bothered to figure out exactly what the rates were.I know the first Trade Facility in a gravity well gives like 1.8 credits/sec, without any trade routes established, correct? And every added link to a trade route gives like .2 extra credits/sec to every Port. So for every added Trade Port and Refinery added to a gravity well beyond the first, what are the incremental diminishing return rates? At what point should I stop making Trad

Here are some major advantages I've discovered playing against the Cruel AI as TEC. 1. Early game Hoshikos and Repair Platforms. Due to the low damage output of smaller fleets early game, very few casualties are suffered with these around. They can stack their HOT with each other, and later on, with starbases as well. And they can do this all while attacking, unlike overseers. 2. Early game Trade Facilities and Refineries. Having access to these as

What if I don't yet have the time or resources to build a SB in advance? What can I do then, besides occupy the gravity well with scouts, LF's, and LRM's? Also, it sounds like you're implying that ogrovs/adjudicators will prioritize shooting at a SB, even if there are point defenses nearer. Is that true? They'll just ignore the point defenses and try to run through them to get to the SB? Thanks for your help.

When on the defense, how on earth do you deal with these bastards running in and destroying everything before they finally die? I could have sworn that they were vulnerable to fighter strikecraft, but I just watched 12 squadrons of elite fighters do a flyby on a adjundicator, and not even deplete its shields. If I am not able to have a sizable fleet on standby in the exact gravity well being attacked, what's the quickest way to kill them? Or failing that, whats the best

Been playing this game in single player for a very long time since it's release and I'm currently playing against the Cruel AI mostly. I don't consider myself good enough to really get into player vs player matches, so for now I'd like to stick to just learning more about how to dominate the AI. If you are really good at this game (hopefully better than I am) then I'd love to learn more from you, so experienced players are preferred. I can be on virtually

Compared to the Vasari and Advent, their abilities just seem so sub-par or unimpressive to me. They seem to either have very little effect for the cost of antimatter, or just cost way too much or have too short a cooldown, leaving your capital ships without antimatter always. Which of their capital ships are actually worth using as an opener besides the Akkan or Sova? Those are the only two capital ships that seem like they don't completely suck in my eyes, but even then

I've been going at it with the Cruel AI for awhile now, and I'm starting to get used to them, but I'm still having trouble figuring out the best way to defend against them. If there is a single choke point, I will win most of the time. But if there isn't, and they have multiple directions that they can attack from, then I will almost always lose. I usually play as Vasari and TEC, but lately I've been trying to get the hang of Vasari in 1v1 Cruel AI, as th

I've started doing as you've all suggested by using alt-select, and setting auto-attack off on my support cruisers and things are working out a lot better now. What's sad is that overseers are still taking a long time to heal their targets because sometimes they need to fully turn around to heal, unlike robotic cruiser. For a capital ship though they still get the job done because it can stay alive long enough to give them time to heal, but with smaller ships scattered

How about Overseers? Is it best to just let them roam free within the main fleet, and just hope they repair anything that needs to be repaired during a fight? I've seen my capital ships dying right in front of them previously, where I had to find the closest overseers in the huge crowd of units, so I could manually heal him. Is there a way I can order all my overseers to simultaneously use their heal on a single target, now that I know how to select all of them? Or do I

How exactly do I keep my carrier cruisers together though? Is individually shift-clicking them the only way?

11 Replies 7,194 Views

It seems to me, that once you get to a certain fleet size, a lot of different unit types become very difficult to manage and possibly not even worth making against the CPU. It will auto-target and kill anything that is providing your fleet with any sort of utility. I experienced this in my previous game as Vasari versus a Vicious TEC AI, in which every time I started mixing my fleet with Overseers, Subverters, Carrier Cruisers, and even Sentinels, they would focus fire every one o

[quote who="boshimi336" reply="6502" id="3037137"] Quoting Ryat, reply 6501Most multiplayers don't use mods. That said we occasionally will get groups going that play with the mod and some have LAN sessions with it with their friends. In my experience it is more often LAN sessions setup locally or through Hamachi that happen. Our group tends to set things to slow, normal fleet sizes, pirates off with hard / unfair AI enemies. Games can last upwards of 6-12 hours in a FFA w
