I would love to see DesktopX return the ability to design and make fairly complex gadgets and widgets with scripting that were really usful and kept me busy for many many hours, however now my creation does not work.
Anakey
Although i myself have only made 1 widget in DX it has been the most fun i have had out of any of the stardock programs, yes the scripts were not new but i spent many days making improvements to what i had, there would always be something else that i could put on it. I should think it wouldn't take much to fix some of the bugs in the current version then leave it as that
For all those that have looked at the link that Dave has provided, and are looking to buy the suite hoping to get a full windows 7 version, you will be sadly disappointed. The wb skin in that suite is the same as the free one that is available already it has none of the windows 7 only features and has not been updated since windows 7 came out. The only benefit of getting the suite is for the icon set, again the icon set does not include windows 7 icons such as Homegroup. I will doubt very muc
hmm fences that are at the edge of the screen when tiles is active are not moved towards the centre of the screen so they are stuck underneth when reserve desktop space is enabled
Hi, I know its not a dx gadget, but there is a free portable application you can get called Qlock that will allow you to display up to 5 timezones on your desktop and also sync them via the internet http://www.qlock.com/ just scroll down on the download page and at the bottom is the free version
no the site is still up, the domain name exipred but they got it up again, just that it needs to get to your DNS first so could take a few hours
Drewish, do you have any other stardock applications appart from Mycolors? AFAIK it cause problems if you installed mycolors before windowblinds. Also if you request the serial numbers you can then get access to a zip file containing the individual parts of the suite eg wb, ip etc for you to then apply with the other stardock software
Mass effect can only be purchased by persons in the USA and Canada, you are only able to get to the purchase screen because of a bug in the most recent impulse update that for some reason does not check to see where the user is, but it will be corrected shortly
Mainly as new features tend to just add to the pile of bugs
it still doesn't skin the 'Connect To' icon that is on the start menu in 7
It is the same story for just about every customisation app, stardock have been putting all their resources into games like sins, demigod and recently elemental that just about every app appart from wb and maybe deskscapes are in a very sorry state, i can see them loosing a lot of subscribers that won't be renewing
afaik no MyColors themes have been updated to win 7, as for getting the WB and IP the e-mail you get from stardock after purchase has a download link to a zip file containing the individual packages that are in the theme. There may still be an ODNT discount for MyColors, although that may have been pulled when the program was not included with OD2010 because of incompatibility with 7
Precision skin was pulled out of WB for a while, then where updated with Windows 7 bits and got new (more recent) WB sections to serve as example if any skinner have doubts on the new sections. More skins with new features coming very soon.
so more of the skins that were included with wb in the past are going to be updated?
also the fact that many of the windows 7 features do not have an example pic of the element in use, and also there is no windows 7 only sections like there is for xp, I think that both of these would help beginners that are new to skinning wb
Here is a link to all the stuff on sale on the web http://www.impulsedriven.com/explore/onsale but i think the link from the impulse client itself has been removed
Mycolors doesn't work on windows 7, and also any mycolors skin also comes with the separate blind, icons and gadgets for those on win 7
What i would want from a Master skin, is one that sets it apart from all the others. Not to say that everyone feels the same, but I think there are too many plain skins about and i think it would give master skinners a real chalange to produce something like the Toonxp skin every once in a while
I must be missing something here. I backed up but all the programs end with extension .impulse. That tell me you still need inpulse to install it back. Please explain what I'm doing wrong.
.impulse is really .zip just with a changed extension, so in theory all you would need to do is rename them to .zip and then extract to the programs folder as normal however doing so wouldn't create registry keys which may be needed by some apps t
Qubee, what you have to understand is that most people that buy apps from stardock usually buy more then one, or get Object Desktop. Having Impulse where all downloads and updates happen is so much simpler then having to download and install 5 or 6 applications separately and then have to also check online for updates manually. Because of the way that stardock constructs their apps it isn't possible to just provide a serial to unlock the trial version which would then lead to more piracy then
lol not since last year before i got windows 7. It is a shame that the money i spent buying a MyColors skin before win 7 to get the icon pack to go with a wb that was publicly available, has since not been used to develop the software. I have been spending some of my spare time making new icons from that icon pack to cover the windows 7 ones taht were not created in teh first place. I would also have a go at adding to the WB to get the most from it, however i am a complete novice when it come
Great idea !!!! but only with WB for Windows 7 as Masterskins
I disagree, most skinners are very proficient with wb and deskscapes i would much rather see some of the lesser known apps like desktop x or cursorfx given some limelight and maybe persuade a few of the wb skinners to try at something different.
As my colors was pulled from OD10 because of no windows 7 compatibility, and because it would be too much time to update all the skins there have been no more since that music skin. As stardock have been spending all their resources on the games/impulse front the content in OD has been put to the back of the pile except for a few programs such as wb or deskscapes
Afaik, fences is integrated into the explorer.exe process
Wizard1956 I have started a topic for just the same purpose as your post, if we can get enough imput then perhaps we will get some answers to our questions and find out what if we are getting what we paid for https://forums.wincustomize.com/387967/page/1/#2684094
Windows 7 does have a sidebar but it is turned off by default, you would need to go into programs in the control panel, select turn windows features on or off and then select Windows Gadget Platform to turn it on. I think what you have discovered is that desktopx was never designed for use on 64bit systems, as xp 64 was not widely distributed and as desktopx didn't get any development for vista afaik they never put 64bit compatibility in
