I usually play 3v3 with about 20 - 40 planets which can take from 1/2 hour upto around 3 hours. Theoretically it can keep going back and forth for a while but eventually one team will break through and usually the other team will quit. Sometimes a player will want to fight to the bitter end which can add upto another hour. A good thing to try and do though on multiplayer is create a fleet which can devestate an enemies favourite caps ship or planet to break their morale, a l

As long as we get the 1.1 patch official I dont really care, at the moment cant even get a game on multiplayer so that should be their priority before adding new content. Plus at least they are going to give us a highly polished product even if it is a little late, better than a peice of software which is so buggy that cockroaches start crawling out your dvd drive. HAH, yes that is true. Although I get the impression that stardock do listen to the community so I think it is worth giving feedback here as stardock may listen. Also i'm not an expert programmer or anything but I dont imagine it would be that difficult to set the attack function to attack the whole stack of units in the empire window instead of just one as it does at the moment.

I run the normal versions and the comp follwed my commands. Maybe you dont leave long enough as obviously the comp cant instanty defend or attack a planet as they have to prepare a fleet and move into position. Also I find the AI to usually play better than the guy who just quit so not sure why you would want it to play much better than that.

Has anyone heard any news on whether the attacking stack function is going to be in the beta? Or even better a more avanced method of target prioritisation?

It is better the way it is as at the moment as in the beginning you dont really care about what is happening on a planet 20 phase jumps away as much as what is happening at a planet right on your doorstep so its much better that they discover the planet which is the closest first. You do have a point as somtimes scouts will take ridiculously long routes in order to achieve their objective of getting intel on closer planets firsts although you can stop this from happening b

Why not play it vanilla first if it is your first time playing. I haven't used any mods at all so far and I still have found it very enjoyable, single player isnt so good but the multiplayer was great. I've stopped playing it at the moment though as the current multiplayer patch has balance issues, although it doesnt ruin the game but just takes away a bit of the fun when you start getting into the more advanced strategies. Still i'd suggest playing it vanilla first and then by

Given that TEC is the main race from the storyline point of view and so most players will probably be choosing them after watching the intro you would have thought they would be the easiest to play.

Well there is no one online on the beta so hopefully it will be out soon so everyone has to get the new patch to play online. Ive upgraded my copy to the beta although because no one plays online id recommend just sticking with 1.05 enless you like playing single player. Looks like im just gonna have to wait for the new patch to be official before I can play sins again though cause I dont want to reinstall the whole game again.

Well even when squads are firing at a few targets mitigation will still be at max as it rises so quickly so it is always better to focus fire on one target than focus fire on a few targets disregarding units which excel at fighting other certain unit types. I think the only way you could keep mitigation low is have every unit in the fleet split there fire out evenly.

Yes I agree that would help you plot a course without hitting into asteroids much more easily. Although it would be even better if they intelligently avoided the asteroid altogether.

Actually at the moment in the current 1.05 patch units will focus fire on a single target without you needing to tell them. The only instance in which they wont do this is if you have two completly different types of unit for instance anti light scouts and anti medium long range frigates. In that instance if there is a medium armoured enemy and a lighltly armoured enemy then the respective fleets will split there fire between two different units automatically. Its a pretty good system al

For the new patch id just like to suggest that pathfinding is improved if that is within the scope of this patch. In the original game it was the one issue that broke the realism of the game and also the one thing that made me mad when my cap ship flys right into an asteroid when trying to escape from LRF's.

Is it possible to attack a whole stack of units in the beta or will it still only attack one target from the stack. If this isnt in the beta yet then i'd like to recommend it as a feature which should be implimented as it will cut down micromanagement of fleets. Even better if they could implement a targeting priority mode which you can use to set certain fleets to prioritise certain targets that would be even better. Maybe this could be done by holding down alt and selecting a ship and then

Sounds like this new patch will be great. I was just about to quit this game as playing multiplayer the illuminator spam was ruining it but now ill definitly be playing again when this is released. Also the hotkey ability where units join the hotkey group automatically was exactly what I was thinking about so I am impressed when I saw it included in the patch. One other thing though is will units attack a stack if clicked upon or will they just attack the first unit in the stack?

I just tried it with 40 fighters from a sova and 35 frigates against his 40 illums and they barely scratched him. I thought 1.05 was the latest patch though so what is this patch 1.09 you speak of?

I always build a civic research station first and maybe another if there are volcanos and ice planets nearby before building a military. I play TEC though so it may be different for other factions.

Just as I thought, im glad they are going to fix them as it was making me feel like not playing the game anymore, do you know how long it will be before this patch is released? I dont think the problem with them is their side guns though as that is quite cool so I wouldnt want to take that away from them, my problem with them was that they where far to tough to take down, their sheilds are far too high, imo I think they should be fairly weak so they die quite quick in return for the massive d
