Doesn't protect you from getting hit with USB-infections, e-mail malware/viruses and infected files downloaded from the internet. I used to say what you do, but I've since changed my mind about it. I will, however, not use nor recommend any "free" software available. Getting a plain anti-virus is also useless. You MUST have a client firewall, and an engine capable of analyzing behaviour and not just rely on signatures. Again, personally I prefer F-Secure.

Get F-Secure - includes browsing protection toolbar, and has a cloud-updated feature which warns you of malicious sites, and flags them in google searches. Is an awesome all-round anti-virus product. Use Firefox. Combined with No-script/Flashblock it's extremely difficult to become infected with anything.

Yeah def is a huge thing in my current game vs. 3 unfair AI's with unlocked teams.

I think simple square mines would be excellent. I don't care about the aesthetics of something I never see. Sure they won't look pretty if you zoom in, but they're usually at the edge of the planetary ring, and as such if I do zoom in it's only to watch the planet being decimated. =) I think I may have located the root of my issues reg. the crash after the install of the mod. I had two sins directories, deleted one, and re-installed all the mods. Things

I'll add my voice to this.. if it even matters. Pirates are much, much, much too overpowered at this stage. I have just 'finished' a marathonish game, where I just turtled up within a system (Destroyed my local pirates) and let the resources accumulate. I had maxed fleet supply, and research, and a fully devved starbase along with my entire armada just sitting in the bottleneck system. Obviously, nothing broke me and when I returned all my caps were level 10 and I

All valid points. How much of an effect do strike-craft have though? Personally I blame the "late-game all planets get turned in to trade hubs with a gazillion ships." If it were strike-craft mostly, wouldn't the lagg decrease notable when the enemy fleet has been pummelled in to dust and they have very few planets left? At that point I've seeded all planets with trade én massé, and the lagg just keeps on going up. Silly question

I'd say integrate the unit reductions.. But that's just me. I figure with the re-textures, and some limits on refinery and trade ships - and strike craft apparently - we could indeed be golden! I might worry slightly about reduced effectiveness though? Won't the "kill all strikecraft" powers actually accomplish just that with fewer units flying about? Or is that calculated differently? Major; Never used mods.. except for now. :-) I think it might be due to the si

Well, just got a dump to desktop due to lack of memory.. Epic. :( Was in the middle of pummeling the opposing forces, too. Edit: Oh yeah my specs: 4 GB DDR2 Crucial Ballistix RAM Core2Duo E8500 ATI HD 4700 I tried a game with 5 suns, 3 computer enemies and one computer ally. I didn't notice much in the start of the game, but I did notice a slight improvement in the middle-game. End-game still laggs like a motherfucker, with some co

Well, I think it kind-of works. I didn't experience as much of an improvement as I'd hoped in late game.. I still maintain my theory that all the trade drones/ships are responsible for much of it. Mapping all those travel-paths for so many units has to take some doing. :(

I've got the issue as well. I thought a C2D E8500, 4GB Dominator, HD4870 would be able to handle Sins, clearly it's not. It's impossible to enjoy the game with huge maps, it gets so slow that the time you need to finish the map by the end is so much longer than just a regular sized map. Maybe simply disabling ALL trade/refinery fleets would have an impact. It's a lot of ships by end game, when you've got full developed planets, also

Yes they can throw it out. Nvidia had a ready version of the new intel integrated graphics CPU ready, with 8000 series graphics. Intel tossed it. http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20081217PR209.html And apparently they "untossed it" - this little tidbit had escaped my notice. ; http://www.pcworld.com/article/155566/nvidias_ion_turbocharges_intels_atom.html

The intel solution with an integrated graphics chip is for business use, at best. Nvidia wanted to make a version of it, with their own GPU integrated, and had actually already made one, waiting on approval from Intel, which intel decided to decline.

Well, the campaign would be vastly different. Armadas would carry over, you'd have a battle map of the entire universe, and engage a specific area at a time probably. As TEC you'd have to defend on two fronts against an invading fleet of massive proportions, having to switch core worlds from trade to WAR! Massive development, tactical and diplomatic options to play with. Vasari would have to vacuum planets for resources, quickly rebuild fleet or us
