There is more to how a game is run simply by how advanced their graphics are. I'd imagine Sins requires many more calculations on the part of the CPU than Crysis, especially in larger games.

It's not quite so simple. I just had Carrier Spam used against me myself. I couldn't defeat it. I spammed 26 Defenders against his 54 Fighter Squadrons (supported by 1 Capital Ship) and I only managed to take out about 1/3 of his fighters before my defenders were overcome. Meanwhile I attacked his carriers with Illuminators but he just kited them around the planet until his fighters took them out. Defeating the carrier spam is a lot more difficult that simply, "Bu

If that tiny quarter of a second freeze bothers you that much, I guess you should.

Well, I dunno. I do keep anti-aliasing off because of the dreaded White Dots Problem, but my specs are: Duel Core Intel E8500 @ 3.16 GHz, 4gb of Ram, Vista 64-bit, and an ATI-4870x2.

Actually there's more when you zoom in. When you zoom out everything reverts to 2D pictures, thereby making it easier to process. Zooming in renders ships, planets, and building in 3D. So you zooming in and Framerate dropping momentarilly is it just loading all those 3D textures.

It's the same way in the Total War games. The reason *there* was because those replays recorded mouse clicks, not the actual results of the *actual* combats.

I must be doing something wrong. I click Ironclad Online, type in my password, it works and I see an empty box titled "Players". How do I fight other people online?

It probably has something to do with Impulse going down the shitter at the moment. A team of well-trained, professional monkeys are hard at work trying to fish it out. Please be patient.

Well the official "Recommended Specs" for running this game don't mean you'll be able to run it without any lag ever.

3 Replies 1,025 Views

There appears to be no "problem". Your framerate dips seem to, by your own admission, coincide with an increase of crap on the screen. You said it drops during battles. That doesn't imply a problem with the game, or with your hardware. (Actually, depending on how you look at it, it could.) Your computer it just struggling with all it has to do. The "issue" you're looking for is that your hardware isn't good enough to run the game without lagging. Sorry. Now if you used to be able to r

I have Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware (free versions) and Impulse works fine.
Are you really that shallow? I get the dots too but they're hardly noticable unless you're looking for them. Besides, you spend 80% of your time zoomed out anyways.
Short Answer: Yes, I am. Long Answer: I don't know about your dots, but I notice my dots quite a lot. And when it comes down to it, this appears to be a widespread problem; a problem that has been reported for months, with this game. It can

Hm, you know, it seems quite a widespread problem. Even this guy... http://frogboy.joeuser.com/article/331150/Life_with_Sins_of_a_Solar_Empire_v11 ...has it. (See second picture.) Someone comments that they have the problem too. And apparently people have been posting about this issue for months on these forums. The "white glitter"... It clearly effects both ATI and Nvidia, and cards of all types, so the almost knee-jerk reaction of, "It'

There are other forum posts about this. About how turning on AA makes tiny (and annoying) white dots appear on ships. I've seen other people with this problem, but they are using Nvidia cards. However, I am using an ATI 4870x2. (Drivers most recent.) So while some fixes posted for this problem work (sometimes...) for Nvida users, I can't try their same solutions. I've only downloaded the demo, so would this problem go away if I bought the full product? Or am I screwed? Also I'm having
