I have a very powerful system, yet 2 hours of Sins brings it down to a slideshow. What seems to be the best size, the most amount of AI, and the # of planets to allow for a decent game without the slideshow after a few hours play? Thanks!
Please allow an option to eliminate the empire tree (or allow it). Basically, just a toggle on/off. I never use it and hate that valuable memory resources are used to keep it running and in my way.
DS is an incredible piece of work. I wouldnt be surprised if it was included as part of Sins 2 (the concepts at least, if not the actual mods as well). Betas are done for a while now. We wont see rebellion for a year (maybe betas late fall?). So, looking forward to DS 1.0!
Yes Thanks! I knew about the yellow triangles, but the blue triangles at the 4 o'clock position were the ones I was asking about. Very interesting addition. I really like the additions to Sins in the DS mod. I'm not too sure about the gas giants with 10 crystal/metal asteroids though. Seems like it overshadows the other planets, since it has the resource options of 3 total planets.
Sorry for the lame question, but what are the little triangles (look like teeth) on the planets in DS (when viewing the entire solar system)?
OK, I loaded it up, played for an hour and I'm sold. Simply, WOW! First thing to see is the amazing explosions and weapon trails, then the variety of planets. I'm amazed at how good it looks/sounds! It's almost a new game with the new techs and prices, etc. I read through the change log here, and went to the DS site, but is there a page/doc with an explanation of the tech changes, as well as all the other changes for the DS mod?
Got it loaded. Thanks! BTW, the path for win 7 is: C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods-Diplomacy v1.2 (or version that you are using) The instructions linked above state that win 7 is: C:\Documents and Settings\ \Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\
[quote who="Stant123" reply="4441" id="2908822"] Distant Stars and Sins 1.2, yes it works as stated earlier. Most of those posts were for the beta patching that was going on before the release of the official 1.2 patch. We try to keep up with these things so that all of those helping out by testing the beta for Ironclad and Stardock, like myself, can still switch on and enjoy a game of DS. But the reality is that you didn't have to look through any of the pag
So is the distant suns mod working for the 1.2 patch? I waded thru the current pages, but am confused with the posts about DS being worked on and whether it's playable or not.... With all the new additions, what does this mod add to the current Diplomacy version that makes it more interesting/fun? Thanks!
What mods are worth using with this new patch? The optimization mod was actually incorporated into the patch, right?
Is the memory system upgraded from the last beta patch? I'm still reeling from the 10 player, huge, multi-star map, that came down to a slide show at the 3 hour mark. Since the bottleneck is the one cpu core that is used, what is the most that a fast cpu (i7 920) can run, as far as number of AI, planets, stars?
Does everyone play at 1x speed in these multistar 10 player games?
It's disappointing that there is no option to disable the tree entirely. As far as I can see, the only things you can do is unpin all the options for the tree in the User Interface window, and minimize each planet/sb in the tree. That's it. Am I missing something? It helps save a few fps, but it's still a slideshow at 2x speed. I dont recall having this problem with single star systems...maybe it's the added difficulty level of the AI, which means they'll have mo
hrm....I think I only have fleets and starbases on the tree. Come to think of it, I never, ever, even use the empire tree. I should just completely disable it. Good tip. Interestingly, it took more than 5 minutes to quit the game and get to the main menu. I tried this a couple of times and it was just as long each time.
I've completed 1 game with this beta. It was a 10 player, 1 star, FFA, with the AI players set to hard. It played out pretty well, and I monitored my ram/cpu usage, and things seemed to work quite well. However, I started a 10 player, 5 team, HUGE multistar game, with all AI set to UNFAIR, and the game ground to a standstill at about 2 hours into the game. The CPU usage was fine at about 75% or so, but my FPS was 20 or so (playable) at 1x speed.
Ah OK. Havent played anything but TEC :o
Culture broadcasting from a SB? Is that a beta tech? I dont recall seeing that before....
I'm tempted to pre-order, but I want a box and a DVD of the game, to go along with my original Sins box/DVD. However, I didnt see an option for a physical copy, only the digital copy. Two Questions: *Can a physical copy be obtained along with the digital copy, likely for a few dollars more? *Will there be a physical release of the game for retailers (or available from your online store)? I dont mind paying in advance, especially as this k
Figured it out. The settings had to be changed in diplomacy.user.setting and I also had to change the refresh rate, which was 75 (old monitor) and 59 (new monitor). Once the monitor refresh was correct, then all monitor resolutions appeared. BTW, looks FANTASTIC at 1920x1280. Sure wish I could use 2 monitors for this game ...
btw, I'm using win 7
I just got a new monitor and dont have any resolution options in Diplomacy, however after adjusting the user.setting file to read 1920x1200 I can set the resolution for Entrenchment, but still not Diplomacy. I'm assuming that the user settings for diplomacy are in a different place. Can anyone point me to where that is? Thanks! RM
Sweet. Thanks!
Thanks for the replies! That's encouraging that others have win7 64bit working. I have the original CD for Sins, and then I bought Entrenchment and Diplomacy thru impulse. I think I HAVE to load it from the CD, right? I'd be happy to load it straight from impulse too...
