The main point of my original post plays to this. You have *Just* 8 upgrade slots on your starbase, and probably over 16 different possible upgrades. If the different upgrade paths aren't somewhat balanced or useful in different situations at least then some will never get used. I'm not really out to compare one race versus another race's upgrades but the upgrades available to each specific race when they build a single starbase. The most obvious case of this imbalance I'd say is w

I'm still looking for confirmation on some of my questions, anyone know? (I haven't been able to test them myself yet.) I agree that TEC are almost forced into getting a Marza as the first cap (or at least an early one). I'm not sure what to think about this. Don't the other civs have almost default first caps too? Progen for Advent and egg for Vasari? If trans is correct, and something needs to be changed to allow more good options in cap choices, then I feel like changes would be necessary across the board: not only making the missile barrage slightly less overbearing, but changing ca
Carrier based fighters are the hard counter -- they tear Illums apart. If the Advent player has enough military to counter your fighters AND overwhelm you with Illuminators, then they are just outplaying you.
True, drone hosts are a bit heavy on the fleet cap.

TEC get percheron carriers at 3rd tier and their fighters are a good answer to illums. The problem really comes when he gets drone hosts along with those illums. Trying to win with fighter squads isn't effective then, as Advent squads outfight what the TEC and Vasari can field. I still haven't come up with a good counter to that lot.

It was a perfectly valid question, Sith, one I was wondering about also. Not intending to hijack the thread, but I have another related question. I use the stack view for the empire tree so that it's not unbelievably cluttered. However, I've noticed this causes problems with tabbing through units. It will only tab through the various stacks of ten it arbitrarily creates, rather than each individual unit, which is a problem when I need to micro individual abilities.

Codan: Instead of upgrading hangars to get strike craft for the TEC starbase, wouldn't it be better to spend those points elsewhere and instead surround the starbase with hangar bays, providing a flak curtain as well as the squads? The 2 or 3 extra upgrades could go to something like ship prod or even docking bays to keep the hangars alive. Or do you suround it with hangars anyway to get extra squad coverage? Transitive: Thanks for the detail on the Orkulas

I'm pretty new to these forums, and I have a few questions about karma. Where can I view my own karma and the reasons for receiving it? (Yes, I know I don't have any yet! :P) When viewing reasons another member recieved karma, the description is larger than the displayed field. Can I view an extended description? How? If this isn't possible, is a mod likely to read this and make it so? :) Thanks much.

I've been seeing the term 'fully upgraded' starbase around the forums a lot and I've been wondering what people mean by that. We all know that you can only get so many upgrades on each starbase, so does that mean offensive upgrades such as weapons and hull, or civ specific upgrades like the Advent's culture or the TEC's factory? Obviously, everyone can't be talking about the same thing when they refer to a 'fully upgraded' starbase. So, my question is two-fold: 1.&nb

Personally, I hardly use siege frigates. But, then I usually play TEC and have a Marza with raze planet. Recently though, I've been trying different strategies and civs and using siege to mop up seems to work really well. My fleet and its vital cap ships can move on to the next gravwell after razing structures and defenders while my sieges come in to deny the enemy their planet. They can sit there and bomb all day if they want while the construction frigates won't rebu

I've only recently picked up Entrenchment and today was my first Vasari game with the expansion. I built a starbse in an enemy gravwell (vs. AI) under cover of my fleet, but my fleet was called away to defend my opposing flank. Because I was dumb and didn't have phase gates yet, it took my fleet a full 4 jumps, then a fight, then four jumps back, and my starbase was still in the enemy gravwell kicking ass. It fought off 5 waves of enemy ships, including 4 caps and destroyed

From personal experience (guys in my dorm) my Hoshis get eaten alive by my friends' fleet, especially Advent. With Disciples draining antimatter, Illums DPSing and Drone Hosts bombing the crap out of me, my poor Hoshis are too busy trying to heal themselves to repair the rest of my fleet. TEC were the first civ I played and became my main civ, but spamming Hoshis does not win games. IMO spamming anything won't win unless you are facing an inexperiend opponent. I, for
