[/quote] Hence why we never upgrade it fully, the hit your fleet takes is just too great. In fact it's quite rare for any of us to even shell out for even one upgrade at all, and that pretty much only happens on defensive starbases protecting homeworlds.

I tried this myself, but although sins works without as much as a glitch and at a great framerate, I haven't been able to patch or update in wine either, and I've had to use my windows virtual machine to install, download the updates, and then just copy the whole sins folder over to the wine prefix. Works like a charm from then on, and I don't really mind going into VirtualBox every once in a while, although it would be cool if there was a way to update using separate patches (though I'm sure
