Just about every object's tecture in Sins of a Solar Empire uses Alpha channels. But...what purpose does the alpha channel play in Sins of a Solar Empire? When I load up a planet texture, for instance, I see that it has four channels: Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha 1 (I'm assuming this is because a planet texture uses the RBG color mode). But why? Do these channels have something to do with making the planet reflect starlight when viewed at a ce
Can anyone help me out here?
Well, here's a crazy idea. How about planets that aren't even shaped like spheres or geoids? Here are some example exotic shapes that could be planets. Some are 3 demensional, while others are higher demensional objects only achieved in 4 demensions: Crecent http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/7/7048/cele07.jpg
Hey again. I've been away from this thread for a while and I'm trying another shot at it. Any new advice here?

I noticed, that while I'm creating a custom map and I'm scrolling through all the planets, I notice one of them is named "String Not Found". I loaded this "String Not Found" planet into my map and it appears to be Neptune. I looked back at the list and saw that Neptune was not in the list. Is there a way to fix this "String Not Found" error to the word "Neptune"?

Or there's Distant Stars . It includes Sins Plus, all those graphic-boosting mods, added research levels, and more. However, it's available for two releases of Entrenchment (v1.02 and v1.03).
The only planets I see missing from this mod are the Radiated, Slave Shielded, and Shattered planets from 7DS. It would be pretty cool if they were added. Other than that, I can't wait to use this mod on Entrenchment v1.03! Great work!
Nope, Impulse only updates to the latest version.

xraptor321, to the best of my knowledge impulse will ONLY update sins/entrenchment to the latest version, BUT sins of the 13th tribe is one of the mods that I tested my mod updater v1 on, and I might have found the cause of the problems with the updating, due to different versions of the convertdata doing ONLY their version of sins.
I am thinking about buying entrenchment and I have a question about updating. I realize that I have to update Enrenchment through Impulse. Does Impulse update Entrenchment automatically to v1.03? Or can I specify Impulse to update Entrenchment to v1.02 only? I want to try out the Battlestar Galactica: Sins of the 13th Tribe. And it only runs on v1.02. Thanks!
just confirming... this mod doesnt actually work with Entrenchment huh?
No. It only works with Vanilla Sins v1.15 and up. I am currently running Vanilla Sins v1.15. I've heard that it's possible to play Vanilla Sins that contains both versions 1.05 and 1.15. How can I do that? The main reason why I'm asking is because I want to use v1.05 mods and v1.15 mods. Not at the same time, of couse, but so I can switch between them. For instance, 7DS (v1.05 only) and Celestial Bodies (v1.12+).
I'm still wondering if I can run 7DS on very high settings... :( If maybe I can change a file of some sort, since I know my machine can handle it.

Yeah, I have also run Crysis on max settings too. I built my own system. Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 Ghz, 4GB dual-channel RAM, ATI Radeon 4850, 7200RPM 640GB Western Digital Harddrive, dual blue cold-cathode lights, a massive 200mm fan on top and two blue led 80mm intake fans in front, 5.1 surround sound, and 21.6" widescreen LCD monitor. All running Windows XP Pro SP2. So you assumed I have an "average computer", huh? [e digicons][/e] I want to
Do your .dds textures have an alpha channel? If not, perhaps that's why your models don't have textures on them. From what I understand, an alpha channel gives the texture reflectivity. Suppose you're looking at a ship at an angle where the sun is directly on the ship, and the side of the ship gleams. That is a result of the alpha channel.
I absolutely love this mod! It's a creative innovative addition to the SINS. However, I read in the first post that this mod will not work on very high settings . I turned on very high settings and tried to load a custom map, and of course I got a minidump. Why does a minidump occur when very high settings are activated? And where is this minidump located?
I have been trying to follow your tutorial and it's difficult for me to follow. I don't know how to edit my texture so that the poles can seam together at the top/bottom of my sphere. You mention that I should make more textures to make the poles look good. But I don't know how I can do that without altering the texture itself. Also, what about an Alpha Channel? Is an Alpha Channel on my texture necessary?
Thanks a ton!! I'm going to walk through your tutorial and see where I end up. I love the idea of using this program. I found it on the Autodesk website, and it's called Autodesk Softimage Mod Tool 6. I will also have to apply a few patches to it, which are also available along with the Mod Tool. So...what exactly happens when I'm through with this tutorial? Will my sphere be a .mesh file that I can use in SINS? And how will I apply my custom terr
Thank you so much xxx_diresaint_xxx! I am very familiar with UV Mapping and I found your video tutorials very helpful. As you can see from the pictures in above posts, the texture fits perfectly with my sphere. No matter what size the sphere is, the texture's quality remains perfect. So I am having no UV Mapping issues. Any answers to my questions in above posts would be greatly appreciated. I know it is possible to put my custom planet into SINS. I jus
I don't quite get what you are saying, dresda. All I want to find out is this: 1) How do I make an alpha channel for my new texture so that it will work in SINS? 2) Will my texture work, even though it isn't in a cross shape? 3) Could I make my own sphere in 3DS Max, apply my custom non-cross-shaped texture to that sphere, and load the completed planet into SINS? I use the LunarCell plugin in Photoshop to make the textures, and 3DS Max to make my pl
