The lag on large / medium random maps i've having i the same as i had on R1 of maelstrom.. Can't remember if it was the same without the mod at all since i hadn't played the game without it for quiet some time. So i think the lag doesn't have too much to do with the mod but just with the outdated game engine.

I'm not crossing my fingers on any update to ever be realeased again. Making the game more future proof would prolly need massive rewriting of the original client (multi threading, quad core support etc, better memory model). But here goes nothing... maybe i'm wrong. Oh and while you at stardock making changes, plz drop the stupid impulse whatnot crap... It appears i have lost access to my previous stardock purchase (incl sins) and no way to acces

[/quote] Well i tend to only play random maps, not the premade ones and on the larger ones i always have extreme lag later on. But so far on the systems of war map it is extremely smooth so far... Maybe I should stick to premade maps :)

I think most of the extreme lag happens on random medium/large maps.. Not the scenario or premade maps.. The systems of war map seems to be very smooth but i'm guessing that has to do with the fact that all the action happens in a very small star system at once,

Diplomacy version. I'd have to check on races.. I'm playing trade alliance but only few other races are still left.. About 3. Prolly a random large map instead of medium then since i started with 8 races. Lags while zooming out on planets and massivly lags in battles... 1, 2 fps.. with freezes of 5 seconds very frequently. And even when half my fleet is annihalated but lags gets a bit less then. And yeah. i maybe more of a turtle.. Just start off building up a few planets, dev

But damn.. sorry to say lay gets so bad on a middle size map.. Watching 1, 2 fps with freezes of 6 seconds in battles.. losing a lot of lvl 10 capitals just because of the lag. i7, 8 gigs ram, top video... such a great game and mod but 1, 2 fps is really not too much fun.. I pray that ironclad does rewrite some of the base code e.g. make it multi threading and making it 64-bit. I'm afraid the game code would need a massive rewriting to make it more playabl

Holybeast, you didn't by chance edit your config file and change the particle count numbers? Lowering them will create weird particle effects.

BTW for the ones that have problems with the trade alliance fighters/bombers not attacking and just sitting there... Copy the files Fighter_TradeAlliance.entity and Bomber_TradeAlliance.entity from the R1 verson of maelstrom into the gameinfo folder of R2. Problem solved (or better just a quick fix :) )

Again, this mod is brilliant. As i stated on moddb i've changed back a few things to correct some problems. E.g. fighters/bombers for trade alliance and the beam defense platform. But great work and it's kind of fun digging into the code myself :)
