Sounds like a problem with your LAN. Maybe its infrastructure is too large for your two computers to find each other through a simple LAN game? Other than trying to connect more locally (like from the same room or something), you could try logging on to Ironclad Online and then creating a game there that your friend can join.

I don't think so, not really. The closest you could probably get would be to have one durable unit move around the patrol route you want, and to then give the "patrolling" units you have an order to "move" to the primary unit. Those following may move around the gravity well and attack enemy units around, but will immediately follow the leading unit when it starts to warp out. Another problem is that the leading unit may well be targeted first by whatever enemy ships are around and will d
I LOVE playing as the Vasari on account of their evil-ness
Ahhh.... the Vasari aren't evil , per se, they're just trying to survive, as a race. Same could be said for the TEC, really, except we as humans are more empathetic with them since they look more like us. The Advent are the real aggressors in Sins, but they aren't really evil , just fervent believers.

Sounds a bit too Starcraft-esque for me, I kind of like the idea of the unknown enemy never being revealed. And diplomacy between the races doesn't seem very Sins-like either.

In games against the AI? (I assume that's the context because that's what the OP was talking about) Yes, that's a strategy that works if you don't mind long games. At that point in the game you should be getting oodles of income from many sources and it shouldn't be that significant, especially compared to the cost and fragility of an AI's Novalith. Two Kols with GRG level 2+ can take out many caps before they can retreat, unless they stay out of range completely. Very handy if the enemy isn't going bomber-heavy. I was amazed at how effective Sire was at it.
