If you want to challenge yourself, you could try taking planets faster instead of just increasing the number of neutral frigates. For instance, try getting 5 planets by 8 minutes. If you give yourself a speed requirement, it's definitely a difficulty increase. 5 by 8 sometimes isn't possible, but 5 by 9 or 10 normally is. Not saying that this is something you should do, but it's an interesting and challenging exercise... and is very useful pract

If you're new to the game and don't mind being cheap, beeline for choke point(s) (if you see a great choke point, move your ships directly there without capturing anything in between except if it only takes a few seconds to take care of the important militia) and set up starbases and repair platforms. Unless you're playing against Cruel or Vicious, they should take care of nearly any AI fleet. Once your starbases are good, build as many logistics structures as possibl

You could also try turning the "Effects" off, which do nothing but look pretty. Having lots of strikecraft late game can cause large amounts of lag as well - if you have 50+ squads (which isn't that uncommon), every time they automatically retarget there's a significant clip in the game. You could also try playing with smaller fleet sizes.

I'm pretty sure that map format is identical for all versions of Sins, so you have nothing to worry about.

Maybe if it felt like it had the story-telling aspect of an RPG while remaining a 4x-RTS. I do wonder, though, what exactly are people hoping to get from a campaign? People seemed to like Civilization and Alpha Centauri without their having campaigns. If you want a science fiction story, go read some good sci-fi, which will

If anyone's interested in multiplayer but wants to play without being horribly massacred by the more expert players on ICO or on nonstandard settings or maps, feel free to PM me if you want to set something up. I'm decent (I think) and can give tips even though I haven't played that many games.

I generally turn off auto-attack for those support cruisers because they do little damage and (for Advent and Vasari) they have to orient towards their targets before repairing them. But with auto-attack off, they still do use their abilities: but, depending on engagement range, they may not allow themselves to move in order to do so.

In a 1v1, there's always at least 4 jumps between your HW and your opponent's HW, often more like 6 or 7: in that case, being able to colonize key planets is pretty important, so I always build 2 civic labs initially so I can get terran population upgrades and

I would be very in favor of a good campaign, but I don't think that the setting should be with the Vasari and the darkness, because of (among other things) balance issues and believability issues. Remember that the Vasari tried to fight them a long time ago by sending their whole fleet to fight the darkness but only 1 ship returned or something, so they packed up and started fleeing. If the campaign had something to do with this it'd kind of be pointless because the outcome is

So, as TEC, I was just playing someone (1v1) who, as Vasari, built a completely upgraded Orkulus on one of his worlds. I built something like 50 bomber squadrons in response in preparation for killing it, but he quickly put 4 or 5 hangars around it with phasic trap. (I wasn't able to kill the builder). With almost all of my fleet supply used on carriers, capital ships, and LRM, I went up one more supply level and tried using Ogrovs (like 15 of them) to take down the hangars, but the SB ju

IMO the Advent seem to be the most bloodthirsty: TEC is just trying to survive and hold its borders and would probably be the most interested in a truce instead of the extermination of their enemies.

One way to check to see if the tooltip simply isn't updating the numbers or if the research doesn't take effect until a new structure is built is to use dev.exe to have 2 players build culture structures on adjacent planets, watch for the point of equilibrium between the two cultures, and see if that point changes after the culture upgrade is researched (for only one of the players, obviously). However, I strongly suspect that the the true numbers simply aren't updated properly on
