Just an fyi, still working on the mod. I'm sketching out the ship and creatin them on paper first. Figure the more planning the better
This is an awesome idea.
Thanks! Hopefully everything works out smoothly
Da-Vinci would be an interesting inspiration, thanks for the idea! While I'm at it might as well as add Nikola Tesla for the other art style :D
Just to add the small details then.. One thing I'm struggling with is making a decent propeller. The blade shape's tricky and I don't know of an easy way to achieve it
I'm trying lol. The biggest challenge I'm facing right now is not actually knowing how to manipulate objects as I intend to. Until I become more comfortable using the multiple tools of xsi, progress will be incredibly slow unfortunately. I'm sure I'll improve through time.
Is this closer? Just a basic airship. I'm yet to add small details to it. I think a lot of the "steampunk feel" will come from the textures later.
Alright hanks will do
Thanks Thoumsin , again very helpful. I really like the the rotating particles and can easily see it being used for my mod. With most of the planning for races complete, I'm going to start modeling. After that, I'll re-read this post and take what you've said into recommendation thanks again!
Again, wow. Great stuff. I like it a lot actually. It's exactly the direction I was wanting to go in. It's going to take quite awhile to get a good portion of the races finished but totally worth it in my opinion. What do you think about my idea of changing both the planet meshes and the skyboxes? How feasible would that be.
Those are all fantastic. Thank you very much. I might just use each and everyone hahaha
I assume this means they are going to have mangled (well more so then the usual steampunk designs) human ships or will they have their own unique identity? Also what about the militia if any are planned?
This is what I'm thinking (brainstorming on the spot at this point) Pirates rely on the black market. They will u
Thank you Thoumsin that proved very helpful. Modeling is relatively new to me and I'd like to grasp a better understanding on all of the various techniques to get things done
@ SemazRalan Ah thanks for the suggestion and sorry. @ Sinperium Yeah it kind of turned into a disproportionate seaplane lol. I made this before your suggestion of setting ground rules for each race's build theme. I'm going to try and incorpo
Hey those are some great suggestions -I really like giant battery engine concept. I've done some brainstorming myself and engines have been a pain for me. I do need to organize the site a bit more and will this evening. As for laying down some guidelines and basic concepts for races, I agree completely. I have actually stormed up quite a lot over night. I'll write what I have here for time's sake. I will also then re-organize the site. Here's the biggest
Hey everyone, Completely new to modeling. Watched some videos and after making a crude battle axe, I made this ship and was wondering if people could give me some advice. I'd like to improve it wherever possible. I'm having trouble adding small details And sorry for posting so many questions. You've all been great help and I thank you ;) Here's a link to a few screen shots of the ship: <a href="http://soase-steamatwar.free-message-board.com/t6-captia
I'm yet to actually use the particle forge myself lol. Particles might be the answer though. Definitely for scenery. What about actual objects though. Could I have say, a giant gear rotate on a ship using particles? That seems a bit too much but I honestly don't know
Fantastic thanks. I figured that'd be the case. Another question, Is it possible to animate on both planets and ships besides particles? I don't think sins supports that. Wondering for turret movement on ships and scenery on planets
I'd like to re-model the planets into something else. Can this be done? I've been told that its possible to change their relative size so I assume it is but I'd like to make sure before I put out effort in doing so. Thx!
On the forum, I clearly state that I do not take any credit for the concept art and don't plan to directly mimic any of the ships posted. I simply have them there for other users as a reference. That aside, people are obviously missing it so I'll up the font to make it more noticeable, so thank you. @ Sinperium , Would love the help! I currently have one ship
Hey everyone, a few local friends and myself have been jotting down ideas for a mod we'd like to create. It's fairly rough at this time and for the most part sits as an idea within our heads. What we lack and request help with is modeling. We have every other form of the mod covered -we just really arent that talented at the actual "creating the ship" part so to speak. I have thrown up a free forum site with more information regarding the mod and have a section for anyone t
Thanks worked perfectly! I can finally continue on my model
Sorry for that, I'm using XSI Mod Tool. The boolean function might be what I need to use but not sure.. I remember that Rhino uses boolean for that purpose but I don't know if that's the case for Mod Tool.
Hmm, never heard of it. I'll try it out and see if that's easier thanks!
I have forgotten how to do this and its really becoming a problem. Starting work on a model, I have an ellipsoid as the main hull and would like to add a rectangular prism to the top of it. How do I make the two separate object join together, forming one main object? Hope thats clear enough
Thanks I'm glad its possible. I'm really not looking for it in another mod though, more looking to see how I might incorporate it within my own but thank you for the tips. I'll check out those mods and see what they have done.
Is it possible to change the model size of planets and stars? Id like to get as realistic as possible. I believe that our Sun is 108'x bigger than earth and if im to have the planet size stay the same, i doubt i can have a full star at that size (not to mention our star is much smaller in comparison to others in our solar system) so true realism is far fetched, I know, but can I get close? I dont like seeing a capitol ship look as massive as it seems in comparison to the planet its next t
