Q: Will the game require a network connection to play? A: No. However, some of the AI learning mechanisms will require access to the Metaverse in order to perform analysis on player strategies . This will be optional and able to be disabled by the player but does require an Internet connection. A big +1 for - I assume - Brad, who will someday wake up to find GCIV entirely written by
I can't imagine the world of GalCiv multiplayer. Yes I can, we'd have to use the ship builder even more to come up with "just in case" builds to counter the prevalent designs we might not be planning for. Humans are tricky though, I can't wait to see what strategies get cooked up!
"What? How does [player] even have [tech]? Okay, I've got this... Hang on a second..." Go
Best news I've heard in a long time. Best trailer I've ever seen. Hexes! Multiplayer! Take my money! A suggestion and a question: Have the difficulty slider and the base income modifier separate. That way we can have genius deprived AIs, or dumb-yet-rich AIs. Or just make sure the AI isn't cheating regardless of it's intelligence. Will LAN be an MP option? Goodbye all forums that aren't

Looking forward to the next chapter! This is an excellent AAR.
Three-month necro bump. I'd share mine if I had any image hosting accounts.
That last update looks like Galactic Civilizations to me!
That's a Thalan if I ever saw one. Just more muscular and less colourful than Hithesius. I'm excitedly assuming GCIII since Brad said outright Twilight was the last expansion. Elsewhere on the forums Brad said he'd been developing GC's AI for twenty years. If he started in '93 that brings us past the latest update right up to... now.
Not directly, but you can change the market prices and range to the point that no one will never have the credits to buy from the black market. I do not believe any mod currently does this though. That said, the AI is totally reliant on using the black market though, disabling it would probably make the Easy-Hard AIs almost brain dead. You'd need to give them another way of dealing with resource shortfalls.
</p
Is there a FW-compatible mod or method of completely disabling the black market for both humans and AIs? IMO, resource asteroids aren't very valuable since it's cheaper to spend credits on resources than it would be to have to fight over resource-rich planets. (C onsider how valuable Arctic and Ferrous worlds would become.) Thanks for any help!
Seeing as the topic has been resurrected anyway: yes, provided it supports LAN.
That last pic is totally a tease. It is a tessellation of the plane and a typical game board. The real question is how the mechanics work, will it be a true hex system or a square system with hexes for the visual cue instead.
I'm just curious, how could hexes be a visual cue for squares? Squares have either four or eight neighbours; hexes always have six.
Thanks for the new pics, Brad! The new hex-image is a different crop of the old one. Could someone shop the two together to get a slightly larger image? I'm seeing influence borders in GC3 (note the curve at the bottom). Anyone else?
Three months later... What happened? Qrtxian, I really enjoy your AARs, I hope something comes of this.
New #1 looks like it could have come out of the SINS engine, so my guess for one of the games is another SINS expansion or SINS2.
Come to think of it, FW was a tiny expansion pack compared to GalCiv's DA and TA. I'm kind of expecting the next Sins release to be much larger.
I thought this was a bug for the longest time until I considered that focus-retention may have been intentional. [e digicons]:|[/e] Basically your conclusion. Useless reply is useless.
I too would pay money for a multiplayer expansion. Here are my thoughts; I don't know how many of them are original. For my own amusement, I decided to make some of them similes. LAN multiplayer would be more awesome than a completed Terror Star. Internet multiplayer would flop harder than declaring war on the Dread Lords (games would never be finished). Any amount of dummying down to reduce gameplay duration would make the game less fun than the J
Interesting AAR so far! Just based on the starting locations I'm guessing the game will play largely in favor of the Torians.
Quoting Trojasmic, reply 76 How come nobody is pointing out that Gal Civ 3 will now use hex tiles instead of square tiles (see that new pic)? That's a big deal since Brad says he never liked hex tiles. I'd imagine it's a lot more laborious coding AI to work with Hexes than Squares for Pathing, Combat, etc..
I'm guessing that's the reason. But from a game

EDIT: I just realized there are four pages here, meaning I'm not adding any thing new. No question that the fourth-to-last hex-based image is a space based strategy game - the top right hand corner of the image looks like a planet, the background looks dark like space, the background has stars, and the lower left corner ends some area of effect from the planet. The only question is: GC3?! GC2 has been my favorite game for years; a sequel
