1) I started a single player game on a large map (Areolian Sector), and it has 4 or 5 stars on it. To my surprise, when I explored all the planets connected to my star, I see no obvious way to get to the planets of the other stars. Am I missing some tricky sort of link? Or is this a "feature" of this particular map? Or is this a feature of all maps w/ multiple stars? 2) When use an ability point to purchase a level, it appears that permanently I lose the opportunity to use that a

I've been playing around now, and Mopes' workaround does seem to do the trick. It's a bit annoying (and worth fixing, I would say!), but it doesn't make the game unplayable, in any sense. Now you can call me a wimp for pausing all the time, but for any turn based strategy fan, this game is still quite excellent, so long as you can enter your orders and do your thinking while paused (but from this perspective, it becomes important to fix this bug). For anyone reading afterward
Cool - thanks (shoulda thought of that)
On random maps I see gas giants and asteroid belts that are not colonizable, but they have metal sources (small asteroids?) that have the note that they "can be captured". How does one do that?
Resolution change doesn't seem to fix it. In fact, I'm guessing that going to large resolution will actually help to work around it, since it seems to depend on how long your list of objects in the tree is. If this bug is not resolution-specific, then it would seem to be a pretty serious bug. Am I missing something here?
Thanks for the quick reply! I think we are talking about the same bug here, but while shift clicking seems to corrrect the problem for a moment, as soon as I click on a fleet, the selected fleet is mostly above the top of the screen (I can see just one of the selected ships). I'll try a couple of other resolutions and see if they're "safe".
I'm new to the game, so there's more than a passing chance of user error here, but once I get a large number of planets/fleets, it seems that the scroll bar does not corrrectly control the full list of objects in the tree. Very often whatever fleet or planet I have selected is above/below the visible display of objects, but the scroll bar behaves very strangely, and I usually cannot bring the selected object into the display (however I can make all the objects disappear!). Is this a k
Am I the only one that finds the backgrounds for the starmaps way too dark? I can crank the gamma up, but everything but the starmap looks not so great. On starting singleplayer every 2d or 3d time (on some maps) it has a bluish or greenish map, and I think those are fine, but I'm wishing there were some way to set that as an option. Has anyone out there done anything to mod the background?
