Well...I finally downloaded that patch. It would seem that the mods for faster (or slower) ship speed is available. DAMN, I SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GAME DESIGNER! To CariElf: "We couldn't make a module that would affect just one planet in one system; it would get too complicated. Having it affect just planets colonized by the civ who built the starbase would be less complicated." This is from a code standpoint right? I still think it should only affect colonize

CariElf, When I first thought of it, I was thinking that it would affect all planets within the sector that were colonized by the owner of the starbase. Uninhabited planets and alien worlds would not be affected (a huge waste of resources). On a science level, the starbase itself helps in creating fields necessary to maintain certain atmospheric conditions around the planets. In game play, you might need three mods before this even takes affect (cost unknown). Then o
I think that another great part of real espoinage is military defection. What if espionage could also cause ships to turn over to your side? Alz
Is this the first "clan" or am I missing the punchline? :notsure:
I compared both games extensively before I bought GalCiv. Multiplayer is the only REAL benefit to Moo3 worth mentioning. Everything else is a very small list of pluses and minuses on both sides. In the end, GalCiv has much more to offer if you're not looking for multiplayer. Probably the most important thing is replayability (is that a word?) As far as multiplayer goes...it's a short list of participants with the patience of a fisherman in a desert. If you really
I had another idea...what about another technology and series of upgrades to allow for faster ship travel for all of your ships in the sector? The research already exists, controlled wormholes, or gravity mastery, or both? Constructors would upgrade the star base and retro-fit them with gravity well generators to allow your ships to fly faster in that sector.
Hey Gordeleth...GOOD IDEA! I used to do that in Starcraft...let my little zerglings run out and kill the drones early in the game for a nice head start. I think they call the RUSHING...but whatever makes the game fun works for me. They hate when you do that online though.
Actually, I had that happen too. I was new to the game and was finally doing well in a tiny galaxy. I received a WARNING that my people are getting a bad feeling that something bad is going to happen to my home solar syatem. Can't remember how many turns later...but I instantly lost all planets within that whole system (all my best planets) and they used their capital ships to take out every flying and orbiting object in the galaxy. Nobody had a chance, and it thrust me back into the
How about this for a thought? A starbase upgrade (or series of upgrades like Terror Star) that aids in terra forming? It would first require the proper tech to be researched (for example, Atmospheric Conditioning) It would then require 4 or 5 constructors to upgrade the star base. When it's done, it will benefit all planets in the sector by improving the quality of the planets there by a point or two. Sound balanced? Alz
The one thing I'm good at in this game is economy. If you don't want to throw your economy out of whack during recession, dropping research to allow for more military and social spending usually helps a little. It seems to yield a little more loot per month, I guess research is more expensive. IF YOU CAN, I'd lower military as well. Keep the social spending going and go for those economy bonuses. My tax rate is NEVER over 35% and NEVER under 25%. During recession, it's up at
No kidding??? Being that I will not have a chance to play until this weekend...I'll ask now: Where exactly do you disable cultural victory??? And can it be done even after the game is already started? Alz
(Keep in mind that I'm new) I played several different scenarios and 3 times so far I've won the game with a "cultural win". I actually DO NOT want to win that way but it pops up anyway. Does this have to do with my alien opponents being too unintelligent or maybe too good of an alignment? Would that have an effect? I actually have built up some big time economics and researched every possible thing, now I wanted to have a military takeover of my gigantic galaxy. <b
Very carefully? :notsure:
I bought a dozen games in the $9.99 section of every department store. I'd return 'em all if I could, take my $120.00, and buy 3 games that DON'T collect dust :p Alz
Here's a question... I've been addicted to this damn game for 3 days now... On a small map with rare livable planets, I'm looking for the right direction to terraforming. Other civilizations kept finding Precursor tech that brings the planet rating to OVER 40!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want this (:( On a map where races control 1-3 livable planets...what tech should I go after to greatly increase planet ratings??? Alz
MY FIRST POST! Anyway...just got the game. I started on the tiny maps with the aliens being fools and pure good to get warmed up. I recommend that to new players, and check out the tech tree! The terror star kicks A$$, obviously. I built 2 in the game, and sweeped the map. HOWEVER, I'm not sure I recommend it for huge or gigantic maps. You'll earn many enemies and they will converge on you before you have the chance to move the big metal ball across the screen. If
