Its not that the combat looks strange or goofy. Its just that space aged warfare takes place on a much higher intellectual plane than we 21st century lifeforms have the capability to comprehend. So to us, it appears goofy, but to the pilots and bridge crew, their tactics and movement makes perfect sense.

Thanks for the feedback, those were some good ideas. I've got to try out tech trading more often, I tend to neglect that aspect of the game. There's so much going on at once, its hard to focus on it all.

It might sound a little dramatic, but maybe turn based games will saving computer gaming. When I look back on the PC games that have been released over the years I'm kind of disappointed. They just don't make them like they used to. Either its a good idea with a horrible execution, or a bad idea with a great one. It might have always b

In the games that I've been playing recently, some of the A.I.s seem to favor a cultural victory strategy. The Torians spread like the plague, rapidly crowding the map. This usually causes me to completely change my strategy and focus on containing them in a reasonable amount of space. But it seems that the given solutions to this problem aren't enough. I know there are some obvious answers to this, I could: Build a network of

I think I set the number of planets to abundant but I'm not sure about the stars. Come to think of it, I guess it does make sense that there would be fewer inhabitable planets than I thought. It might just be that I have to try to colonize some of the lesser rated worlds.

I created a normal GalCiv II game and I set the habitable planets to abundant, yet almost every planet I came across had a less than 15 rating. Almost all of those had a rating of 0. Any planet 1-15 was extremely rare. If I had set habitable planets to uncommon, would there have been any habitable planets at all? This seems like a bug to me or something. If I had abundant planets selected, I would have expected them to be alot more com

I was playing GalCiv II this morning and chose the settings for my game. I selected habitable planets to be abundant. Yet, as the map was revealed almost all the planets had a class of 0. Planets with a 5 or above rating was hard to find. I never remember habitable planets being that scarce in the original game. Because I selected abundant habitable planets, I would have expected 0 class planets to be far and few between, not making up e

I just realized what the problem was, my military spending was 0% and the Starport was allowing ship construction. It just wasn't going anywhere cause I didn't put anything into the military budget. Ok, that was dumb. It was pretty early in the morning when I was playing so maybe I wasn't all there....

Today was my first sit down with GC II since getting it. I just want to say that for the short time I played it, it was awesome! Except, I couldn't seem to be able to build a shipyard. I was playing the first mission in the campaign. The building wasn't available for construction on the list, so I couldn't produce any ships. I thought I just had to research the right tech to unlock it, but I couldn't find any references to the ship

I don't know how doable it is, but I'd like to see a mod (or perhaps total conversion?) based on the Lensman series by "Doc" E.E. Smith. Its kind of a long shot, I don't know how many people are familiar with the novels or are interested in it. Those stories were major sources of inspiration for such sci-fi shows as Babylon 5 and Star Trek. Star Wars was also influenced by the ideas that Smith presented in those works. Unfortunately (or

Playing Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty, the original Wing Commander I & II. I'm goin old school till GC 2 comes out. I'm also waiting for Empire at War to ship to my house. I won't play GC 2 until I have both games installed at the same time. That is strange and unusual but it should be fun.

This is going to sound stupid but bear with me: Is there any way to determine what the real world scale of GC ships would be if they actually existed? The reason I ask is because it is hard to get a sense for how large or small craft is supposed to be. Viewing the screenshots, its difficult to make an educated guess. From the looks of it, a rank and file starfighter seems to be roughly a quarter of a capital ship's size, which w

I must have missed something. I was actually going to ask about this before finding this thread. Does anyone know what the rationale was for not including the Terror Star?

I should probably just figure this out for myself, but knowing me that might take forever. I'd really appreciate it if someone would point me in the right direction. Is there a quick and/or easy way to do it? The Torian Confederation is really whizzing me off to put it in GA terms. I feel like if I don't fry one of their star systems they are going to declare war on me just because I don't feel like paying them tribute. P.S. One more quick question, where do I save user-created even

Hi, Im a new Galactic Civilizations player, I like the game alot so far, it's way better than Civilization IMO (in some ways at least) But, I was wondering two things. 1.What is the play list for? Mp3s? 2.All of the music and sound effects work properly except the background music that plays in the game map, it doesn't show up at all and I'm wondering why. It worked the first time, then I think the second time I launched it, it went silent.
