One of the biggest advantege of Impulse is I don't have to worry about losing my disc. Recently I had my home broken into and had 12 PS3 games (as well as the PS3) stolen. This isn't a problem with Impulse.
Using DRM to block second hand sales is greed, plain and simple.
I have to remind you again that's a two edge sword which cuts both ways. DRM is to hinder (not stop) greedy and dishonest gamers. It was not long ago when I could take back a PC game to EB for a full refund if i didn't like it. (MOO3 was the last game I returned right before they stop) Abuse made EB (now owned by Gamestop) to stop this
My problem is they're keeping the 3 installation limit. At first I thought it'd be a real annoyance but not major, and then I thought 'well what if I have a bug+need to reinstall?', or 'what if you can do modding on the game, I do something wrong, and need to reinstall?'. That'd be my 3 installations gone straight away.
If I'm not mistaken I believe the 3 installation limit is the number of PC so you should be able to install it on the same PC as many times as you like.
Most RTS are only challenging not because of a good AI but you have to learn to smash key like a madman. It's because SotSS has a descent AI you can leave the battle scene and do something else more than other RTS. There have been four Total War series (which would be a good comparison as a TBS/RTS hybrid without as much key-smashing) yet the AI hasn't been improved much.
I've been a long SD fan myself but let be honest Brad is insane. He kind of like the "Alexander the Great" of game developer. While most of his follower thought Alex was being brave he was really just crazy thinking he was invincible. Even I had fears on how well this game would sell with no copy protection as we all know people will pirate this game no matter how good Brad has been to his consumers. (This game runs with no patch better than some PC games with patches) I want games
Your article does clearly point out that piracy indeed does cost especially to PC gamers. As Newton law goes "For every action there is an equal opposite reaction." Thus more people pirate and "justify" pirating cause the developers to reaction by to finding new ways (which costs money) to protect their investment which upset consumers who despise their protection measurements who in turn justify more piracy which in turn more extreme protection measurements and so on.

Just because something is digital doesn't mean it's not stealing. In today's world a number on the internet (information) has the same value as physical money. I'm amaze how easy for people to justify their wrong doing. I
Where's the Space Ponies setup option at?
I wonder if this 100,000 includes downloads or just store copies.
As far as i am concerned, Stardock can take as long as they want (within limits).
Don't you mean Ironclad or is Brad working on the AI/patch?
In chess a pawn can't move backward. That's not very realistic either but it does added depth to the game's strategy.
I think "cheating AI" is a little misleading as some here really are saying they want a "handicap" option. Even in golf, many plays the game with an handicap yet it isn't called cheating as they still playing by the same rules. As of now I play the SP game with a small handicap of not leaving my home world (including scouts) until the first pirate raid. Thus given the AI a small head start. Soon I going to try not leaving my homeworld until the second pirate raid.
Flaks are very useful against LRM and bombers spam.
After playing 5 games my, every single one of my friends said they are bored of the game.Main reason is because everything is the same. There are only 3 races and each are exactly the same...Also the battles are all exactly the same. There is no such thing as strategy in this game, it's still who ever has the biggest zerg wins easily.
My average time for the first 5 games would safely be over 6 hours each. So 5 X 6 = 30 hours. Not bad for a $40-$45 game. Not including multip
Part of the tactics is balancing relations with the other races. To get the pirates off your back, simply increase the bounty on another race.
As well as make sure there are two empires that has a bounty on them as the AI seldom puts a bounty on a third party.
To have a FFA without missions you need to have "Lock teams" even if there is no teams. This help keeps the AI from ganging up on you while you learn the game. Also a trick which often works when it comes to pirates in to place a small bid on any two empires right before the pirate raid. Most of the time the AI will continue bid on those two where you placed the bids instead of placing them on someone that has no bid on them. (hopefully that includes you)
There is no games strategy or otherwise that has an AI that can out smart an average human being.Chess
Ok there is an exception yet even many chess programs cheat in the sense as it's uses an opening library in the beginning(instead of using the AI) to keep from making bad mistakes as well as avoid many traps.
Yet sadly diplomacy is the only thing that gives any kind of challenge to the game. I found locked teams FFA way too easy so far.
Indeed, I imagine the intent with the rising costs was to limit it to larger empires at the high end, but it simply doesn't work on the huger maps where even small players have many planets.
Or to add strategy which works well on small - large maps. So there is a price of having bigger fleets too fast.
......I can utterly obliterate pretty much anyone. But I can't advance far because the AI simply groups together the ones I'm not attacking and goes hairy apes*** in my core worlds the instant my fleet moves. They can hold out for a while, as every one of them is maxed on defenses, but I still have to return the fleet to avoid losing my major planets.Once you hit the fleet cap on a large enough map, the game automatically approaches a kind of equilibrium, where the effort required to adva
The best would be a % bonus to money/resources.Well why not do a system with Forge Tools then?. Help the AI. It is possible to make a map thats totally impossible for the player already.
A more simple way would to give the AI a head start. So do nothing for the first 10-30 minutes. Yet this still wouldn't help the fact the AI is poor at defending as well as some odd reason it's very slow in researching military tech.
