I was wondering if I could impose on Yarlen and his time to see if there's been any progress that can be shared regarding the update?
goodgimp
Thanks for the continued updates, Yarlen.
Just pinging the thread to see if there's any other info that can be shared? How's the balance patch looking?
I'd rather they run into bugs that thwart their progress than miss bugs that thwart our progress in game. :D I know I've made this complaint before, but I miss the amount of interaction we used to have on this forum. Stardock/Ironclad is so silent these days. I appreciate when Yarlen can come in and answer some questions, but I wish we had some updates from some of the team (whether they be programmers, producers, whatever) on what's going on. Nothing crazy, as I kn
What is this "next patch" you speak of? I'm starting to think the whole thing is a myth, like Bigfoot and interesting AAA games.
So isn't Part 2 of this patch supposed to be sometime this month? Any ETA or updates on it?
Putting aside the usefulness (or lack thereof) of various AL abilities, I think their additions are just plain boring and haven't really changed my playstyle at all. With the others you can eat planets or move starbases or generate money/tech through capitals or build multiple starbases per well or ally with pirates or whatever. With advent it's "here's +5% damage" and "you steal a small number of ships... AFTER they phase jump" and "Rebuild a few destroyed frigates for free". It&
You know what's a better "defensive wall" than a small culture bonus? Two starbases.
I like story a lot, I just don't like strategy game campaigns very much. It feels more... "puzzle" to me than "strategy". Oh, this i mission, I lost because I didn't do this. So now I know the correct steps to take to beat Mission #14 - that kind of thing. I'd rather just get my lore from a novella or an episodic series posted on the website or something. :)
You know what Sins has over Endless Space though? A functioning AI that understands the basics of how to play the game. It also launched with sync bugs. I really wouldn't hold ES up as an example of how to release a game... besides, the minidump appeared between the 1.02->.03 patches, not with the release itself.
True it's going to be based on opinion, but if you take opinion with majority, then RTS is better than TBS in terms of sales and players.
I'd say it's more like RTS is climbing into the USS Niche Market that TBS is currently captaining. TBS is actually seeing quite the resurgence lately. RTS had it's heyday but seems to be on the decline (which is unfortunate, I like both genres a lot) unless yo
I would love it if this were true and the plan for a sequel would be more story driven and explore the mystery of the Vasari nightmare.
A story-driven strategy game? Bite thy tongue, heathen.
Haha, I think we can all relate to that. :)
How very pedantic, Greg. While everything you say is true, it has nothing to do with how frustrating and disappointing it is to sink hours into a good game only not have it crash out before you can see its conclusion.
Also, minidumps are back.
I've had minidumps and crashes with Sins consistently since February 4, 2008. It's my number one complaint about the game and the primary reason I have a hard time loving it (as opposed to moderately enjoying it).
Do I get mad cookie props for starting the thread? I love me some cookies. Real life picture of me as I posted this thread:
Any indication of when the balance patch is going to be rolling out?
I'd rather spend $50 on Sins2 which was built as a multithreaded engine from the start.
riddle king why are u changing ur avatar lol every 2 weeks?
It's a riddle, bro.
It's the interstellar space goat, obviously. Where do you think the Vasari Loyalists learned to eat planets from?
Yea, rather than re-architect the existing engine in a multithreaded way, the best bet would just to put those resources into a new multithreaded engine built from the ground up. Add in a 64-bit executable as well, pretty please.
:D I've been playing since Vanilla (again, I do so off and on.. it'll oftentimes be a year between plays) so I don't need a newbie tutorial on how to get the hang of the game. It's a strategy game and as such I want that data available to me in game. I like hard figures such as knowing what % of damage a particular unit is inflicting on another. It's not a big deal as I'm familiar with outside resources, but I dislike having to go to those
It's always bugged me that the damage vs armor type display isn't in the game for the units. Yes, you have some basic "Strong vs X, Y, and Z" but that's about it. I tend to play this game off and on so I don't retain the information and really hate having to track down outside sources for the info. Is there any way of having "advanced tooltips" or something in the game to actually display this info?
Was hoping this would be fixed before the game release... the mouse is still not bound to the game window on multi-monitor setups. There any chance that a patch can address this?
