What is the greatest mod and why?

So far I'm a very big fan of Star Wars: Requiem

Short of the fact that I can neither handle a Millenium Falcon nor construct a Death Star, I love Star Wars: Requiem.  Playing this has brought me a few hours of insane pleasure.  The Star Trek mod didn't really do it for me by comparison.  I assume there must be at least one more mod that could drive me to waste more minutes of my life out there.  What are they in your opinion?

There is no greatest mod. Only ones that best cater to each person's unique needs and desires.

Quoting BadTune,

Well, the next version of Requiem Diplomacy (and already in the beta), YT-1300s are Rebel trade ships, and with Rebellion I think a Millennium Falcon hero like unit is a possibility. The Death Star though is sadly a much bigger challenge, and both in trying to fit it in game and with balance.

As for other mods, I highly recommend Maelstrom as a unique single player experience.

To steal a small list from what I assume is by the same Sinperium of these forums...

Stars is a great visual mod with changes to the stars and planets and gui--elegant and very different in play.

Distant Starsis a large mod with many new elements, ships, planets, abilities, etc.

Maelstrom is a different, large mod with dreadnaughts and super dreadnaughts.

Sins of the Younger Races for Babylon 5 fans.

Sacrifice of Angels for Star Trek Fans.

Enhanced 4X Mod with random planet encounters, [better balanced] trade and anew form of diplomacy.

Requiem for Star Wars fans.

Blood and Chrome for BSG fans.

Sins of the Fallen...a huge, stackable, multi-mod.

Sins of New Eden for Eve Online fans.

Sins of the Prophets for Halo fans.

There still on entrenchment?!?  wow.

If the Vasari get a warp-able star base, the death star would be perfect for that

That is true... doesn't solve the whole scale problem but it might be feasible gameplay wise. Would still need to have the constructor unbuildable though otherwise you could build multiple of them.

You don't see a problem with multiple Death Stars?  Who are you, Grand Moff Tarkin?

Probably doesn't see a problem with having an unbuildable constructor.

Sorry, we're playing catch up.  That said, 7 deadly sins is one of the largest mods out there.  So if you don't mind firing up entrenchment (which really is diplomacy, minus the envoys and stuff) give it a try .

And we have 9 races, new planets, custom particle effects, new ship/structure models, maps, textures, sounds, music, hundreds of new researches, and lore behind all of it.

There is no best mod out there. Though, if you liked Requiem, try out 7 Deadly Sins and Sins of a Galactic Empire for a different, but still entertaining, Star Wars-y experience.

There's one way I can think of getting a Death Star to work, gameplay wise. Make it an unbuildable Titan, and then build a map around one player having the Death Star and the opposing player(s) having some sort of advantage (bigger starting fleet, more planets, etc) to achieve a sort of balance.

Making it a regular, buildable, Titan or starbase wouldn't really work for Sins, due to it's scale and weaponry, it's superlaser isn't as much of a problem as those two.

Maelstrom is the flavor of the moment and the graphics are great but I don't know what to make of it so far.

Are there any walkthroughs for the Maelstrom: Diplomacy expansion strategies?  I'm keenly interested in playing but I would like some information to help with my learning curve.

best just to ignore the trolls...

If you don't like the Pact thing of diplomacy, entrenchment still get the job done.  Play and enjoy the mods the community has put together.  Yup, 7DS 2.5 is Entrenchment only, we only had enough time do what we did.  http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/306277  If you get the chance, play and enjoy, give feedback, complain or contribute towards 7DS 2.5 Final.

Quoting esorah,

I'll be releasing a manual with R8.

General hints ...

1. Titans - can be replace after 1 hr (from last build)
2. Dreadnoughts - try to get them to level 6 i.e super-dreads

Race related hints ...

Replicators
1. Research 'Replicate' ability for all frigates
2. Research 'Antimatter Converter' early
3. In the research tree there are a number of Research 'Centers' and 'Complexes' (similar icons) that reduced research costs and rates (apart from other bonuses). Research these early.

Norlamins
1. Research 4th, 5th and 6th order projectors early
2. Research extended abilities on Frigates you build
3. Get Norlamin culture 'happening' with Culture Centers and extended research.
4. Build Mallidax and Skylark II cruisers

TradeAlliance
1. Build Tradeports
2. Build more Tradeports and research the trade related items
3. Their research is a bit slow so keep a constant stream of research going
4. Make sure your Capitals have good support because you can't buy experience upgrades for them

I just burst out laughing at that Semaz. I can almost see that happening in some crappy alternate history SW FPS.
