We all know what's happening with DRM these days, especially with EA.
I'm wondering why it's necessary when a process like Stardock and other MMO I have played which do not have any copy protection when you get the game out of the box.
What I mean is this, when I got Everquest2 on the box it said I needed a valid credit card and access to the internet. That was strait forward. I never needed the disk in my computer to play. I did need to log-in but that was expected. To me this was ok.
Galactic civ2 I bought and I was able to play without connecting to the internet and without a cd. The only time it wanted to verify my rights to the game was when I updated online. Very strait forward and not binding or invading in any way.
Going further back Diablo 2. Bought the game was able to play it right from the box with an ID key that was given with the game (in the box) I needed the cd but otherwise very user friendly. When played online needed only to create an account.
So here it is, if these companies are able to protect their IP in a very user friendly way (personal opinion) why is EA to name one unable to do so the same way. Why is it necessary to put on their game a DRM when three other different company with three different ways are able to do it. What is different?
Your thoughts and or input would be appreciated.
