Hi, I got some problems with managing my fleet properly. I tried both issuing commands by klicking on targets as well as using the empire tree view, but none works fine for me. I give some examples:
When attacking with a fleet consisting of several kinds of ships, I'd like to have the ships attack targets that are affected most by their weapons. So lets say I want the light frigates to take out the carriers, the LRF to attack my enemies light frigates and so on. So I Alt-klick on a ship to select all of its kind and then I use Shift to assign targets. But since ships are moving, i often end up shift-klicking in empty space, causing my ships to move to that spot instead of attacking - making my whole order obsolete. Using the tree view is a bit better, however in a big battle its quite difficult to find the ships on the map that I can select in the tree view - for example, if my enemy has 2 groups of carriers in the battle on different positions I cannot simply click on a carrier in the tree view since this ship may be in another group and my ships would have to travel there before attacking. Also the items in the tree view change all the time when ships are destroyed or reinforcements arrive, so the target i was just about to click at may jump a row up or down and I end up klicking on something completly different. How to micro my fleet properly so that the ships actually DO what I want them to?
Another question: Lets say I got 2 fleets at different planets. One main fleet attacking an enemy and a smaller one that is cleaning a neutral planet. I'd like to have both battles open in the tree view, so I can have the main fleet on screen while having an eye on my smaller fleet being able to send back heavily damaged frigates before they get killed. But usually the small fleet doesn't show up in the tree once it loses focus - how can I have both of them displayed there? I tried pinnig it, but I don't really get the idea of this. Furthermore, is there any way to have ONLY these 2 fleets displayed in the tree? If I don't want my other planets displayed there because there's nothing going on there and they only use up space on screen, can I completly turn off some features of the view?
Ah, another one: blocking ships. Is there a way - except setting manual waypoints - to minimize blocking? I lost countless ships because they got blocked by other ships, structures or asteroids (and its strange enough that a race that masters interstellar fight has spaceship captains who are flying around like drunk teenagers who just got their licence, not being to avoid even the biggest obstacles). It really sucks if your precious lvl6 cap gets roasted instead of escaping because it crashes into an asteroid.
Ok, thats a lot of questions and I thank anyone who can halp me here.
