The Pirate Bay founders sentenced to prison

While I disagree with piracy, I do sort of like the idea that if I feel cheated by someone, I can always get my payback. For example, Spore was terrible, pure and simple. The demo was no indication. The over-hyping bordered on fraudulent advertising. The cost of the creepy and cute pack was like salt in a wound. If I "steal" the galactic adventures expansion, to me that is like getting my money's worth belatedly (assuming the expansion actually includes a game). And ultimately, if EA goes under as a result, its what I feel was owed me, so I have no sympathy. It's like I have all the power not to get screwed.

But I think the problem is that some people have more liberal views on when piracy is acceptable.

Lets be realistic and not talk a bunch of horse shit here. These 4 guys created a site called Pirate bay that linked to any torrents people post for people to download. That site was absolutely full of illegal torrent links, how much % legit torrents to illegal ones would you estimate was there? To profit from that is as low as it can get, do they deserve jail time? hell yeah. Do copyright and digital laws need to be modified? probably.

Oh they didn't host the files? That's like saying a Pimp isn't breaking the law cause he's not shagging the punter.

But I thought Pirate Bay got away with stuff because they were based off of American soil so the copyright law didn't apply to them in some way.. I don't remember the explanation.. but my ex explained it to me a few years ago. They found some sort of loophole that allowed them to host the site.

But w/e.. making profit off piracy is a no no in my book.

... you know, on a personal note: my view on this piracy thing has changed within the last year.. I used to just not care.. I pirated what I couldn't find or couldn't afford.. paid for cheap $5 movies on the streets.. but now, I can't even use Limewire without feeling all guilty..

damn people with high morales purifying my tainted soul.

and I agree.. Spore was disappointing. And my bf bought the collector's edition for 80 some bucks from gamestop cuz he was hyped about it. Big fucking rippppp off!
