I think it should be changed so that the Marauder can use the ability. It doesn't make much sense to have the cap ship sitting behind. As it is the ability is not too useful ... It would be nice if the ability could just put down a temporaty phase gate (like: Marauder nano bots quick build an instable phase stabilizer) that can then be used for like 120s as phase gate and can also be destroyed by the enemy.

I hate the website. Seriously, somebody designing such a totally stupid and retarded site can't possibly make a good game. Totally useless and way too big flash animations are not cool at all. I'm certainly not going to spend a penny on such crap.

The main benefit is clearly that phase missiles do bypass shield mitigation, increasing the damage dealt by a large amount and making phase missiles the by far best upgrade in the game. But versus Advent it is actually quite likely to be even more effective and kill some ships hulls before their shields are down.

The second formula is a direct consequence of the first. (A+a)^2 = A^2 + 2aA + a^2 1^2 = 1 = 100% Nothing tricky here ...

Wow, great post! The improvement list is AWESOME and I'd love to see every single one of them included in the next patch. Especially the Vasari Armada stuff and the fleet things (split fleet, fleet waypoints on leaders and so on). My last game with so many planets way on 1.02 but I had the income popup window glitch there, too. Never noticed any lag from trade ports but maybe my CPU is just fast enough (2.5 GHz dual core).

When talking about scout or no scout, please state if you play SINGLE or MULTIplayer games. Of cause it is not necessary to build scouts against the AI. That's because the AI sucks and can't win against anybody with a little experience. If you play multiplayer this is very different. Not building scouts there is suicide, simply because fast rushes are very probable and without an early scout you have no way to see them coming (not to mention the whole "know what your enemy does" thingy)
MegaVolt,Please, just think a bit. Do you honestly believe that games that are ten years old have the most robust networking code for today's PCs and Internet lines?
Today many people still play StarCraft. Guess what, it works just fine for todays PCs and Internet lines. The principle of the Internet hasn't changed the last 10 years. So the solution that was best 10 years ago is still best (and netcode is not an area were a new found algorithm will give revolutionary res

I was talking about working netcode. Games ship with working netcode for over 10 years now. Why does Sins have so much trouble with it? And why is it so difficult to solve when nearly every multiplayer capable game in the last 10 years already did it right?

I appreciate the effort put into solving this but ... come on, couldn't you think of a more complicated way to get those sync info? Replacing the executable and so on, it's really a little overkill I'd say. And what's so hard about the whole thing anyway? StarCraft got it working fine 10 years ago. And today we need to manually replace executables and run special program versions? I'm a little disappointed.

I think Forgiven is funny ;) I, too, am a believer. I like the Pastafarianism. And I believe in Russels Teapot. You don't? Then you didn't read the Wikipedia articles about these two with an open mindset! To you with your closed mind they will always be just texts but if you read them with an open mind the Pasta-God will talk to you through them! A little more on topic: Creationists trying to prove evolution wrong to get their stupid ideas into schools is just silly. E

Do several Advent resource income increasing ports stack? Is there a limit like for refineries (the x of 3 asteroids thingy ... the Advent ports don't count to that, right?).

What about: Every ship pushed back by the guardians drains 1 (or 0.1 or 10, no clue about how high that number should be ... people that play better then I do can put in a good value here) AM / sec while being pushed? So with enough ships you can overwhelm the Guardians simply by draining their mana. On the other hand, if you really invest a lot in Guardians (more then 2-3) you can outlast a medium-sized fleet with their combined mana regeneration. As for Subverters: The same princi

I'd also love to see a linux version. ID software manages to do it with their stuff and it sells well enough to justify the money spent on it (barely). So at least they don't have any losses because of it ;) The problem is that Sins is using DX and not OpenGl (like Doom or Quake do) so the Linux port would be a lot harder to do. I'd still love to see a linux version. With the recent success of Ubuntu it might even make sense economically. And with more and more governments migra

innociv: But his points are valid. It would also hate to see StarDock behaving like Microsoft or EA in that regard. The XBox live thingy will never work on PC and I don't like Steam even a tiny bit. The episodes cost more then a "normal" game, that's the only reason they are done. To milk the customer for more money, hoping that he is stupid enough not to notice it (and it actually seems to work!). As for the subscription: Even if it costs only 1 cent per month, paying it a hassle (espe

Doesn't 4/3 mean that you built 4 refineries near the asteroids and that only 3 of them are supported? You can try building an additional one in a planetary system in which there are already 3 and see if your resource income goes up. It should not.

To kill a planet quickly enough you need at least 10 siege frigs. That's 150 supply. So the enemy will have twice your LRM and he will totally own your fleet and win the game. But you took out one tiny planet (if, and that's a big if, he didn't bother to defend). Yay!

Yep, right now the AI simply wastes mana if stuff is on autocast. It's usually best to turn all autocast off (well, nearly all ... I can't think of one right now but I'm sure there are 1-2 skills that are not thaat bad on autocast ;) ). A preset to have all autocast off on unit spawn would be really great to have. Better would of cause be a more intelligent AI autocast ;) But that will probably be a lot harder to implement. And it would take away even more from the player to do (I a

As for the vs 9 AI game: Try malice and cleansing brilliance (its the colony and the fighting mothership that have these abilities). Cleansing brilliance does a ton of splash damage in the beam ray and malice spreads damage across the enemies fleet. With just those two capitals and NO support at all I quite often wiped out fleets of like 50 light frigates (in patch 1.02) within seconds. Having those two cap ships at a choke point just leveled up to 6 and you can basically hold off the AI forever

Some people simply can't enable port forwarding. No root access on the router using wireless from university / internet-cafe / whatever with their notebook for example. A toggable tunnel option would be nice. And following up on all these "PC games are dead" podcast thingies: I put in a console game and it simply works out of the box. No hassle. If I install a PC game I expect the same level of comfort and Sins is able to provide that, great work SD and IC (except in ho

Kruelgor: As the sheet says flak have anti very light damage. In the patch this damage type has been nerfed to do 75% versus light instead of the previous 100% (which isn't in the sheet yet). So the flak are actually a little worse vs LRM now then they were before. And there is the whole point of why the heck flak (anti strike craft vessels!) should counter LRM at all. It just makes no sense ... Anyway, flak are of cause still the best thing to do against LRM and in fact they ar

What about doubling Advent damage in 1.05? And at the same time you could switch all TEC and Advent names and graphics. That way you can claim "Hey, we made Advent super strong" and you keep your totally overpowered TEC to have fun with. Isn't that better then some cheat button?

What HuntingX said ;) He worded it much better then me, thanks. On a sidenote: People always complain. You could ship Sins for free and attack 100$ bills to the package and people some would ask to get 200$ with the game. It's the fate of developing a product for the masses. But rest assured that basically we all (or almost all ... I hope ;)) very much enjoy playing this game. If I didn't enjoy playing Sins to much I certainly wouldn't try to have it improved even further. I th

This is not an MMORPG. This is a strategy game. There is a HUGE difference. Yes, in delivering content (as I said: single player campaign stuff or something like that) ignoring the minority is the best way to go. It has to appeal to the majority to sell, there is no way around it. However, in terms of multiplayer balance exactly the opposite is true. I am not saying forum posters should be able to heavily influence other aspects of the game but balance discussion simply can not

I just listened to the recent IM podcast. The "vocal minority" in the forums is mentioned. This means: People posting stuff again and again while not representing any high percentage of the community. From the way it is mentioned in the podcast I assume you see this as a bad thing (noise on the forums which is hard to filter) and that you generally disregard this "vocal minority". This is a good way to handle single player suggestions. If a campaign only appeals to one guy and not to m
