Awesome :D Love the ship designs.

True, I guess you could have something like an iridium asteroid that was porous. Then both would be true.
There is a mod folder. It is in your C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Mods Rather odd spot considering the folder is hidden to get there.
That invalid header I think might be from the file you are importing. At the moment this tool will import the binary form of mesh file, not the text form. The binary form is the models that go with the game.
Just saw some videos on youtube and I must say, its a very interesting series. I think that it would translate quite well to a mod. There certainly is many mechanics of the series that is very similar to Sins. It would certainly be something that I would love to play. 10,000+ ships would be excessive. Although, if the poly counts are kept to the smallest amount possible for each ship while still looking nice, I would think you could have quite large fleet battles.
Yea, I think that there are some files that are missing to create more for the research tree. There is the ResearchScreen.Window file in the beta tools though. It makes a bit of since how stuff is organised however there is more that is probably in some other file. Im sure its possible just probably not at the moment.
I think that it would be cool. From watching the intro, it looks like the two factions would be very unique. I would certainly play it if it came out.
I would think that Ironclad would have the foresight to not hardcode in the limit on the number of ships ingame. There is probably a file that we dont have or a particular one that needs to be edited.
Very cool. Its good to see that the tool will export correctly. I need to start some modeling.
The .mesh files are the 3d models themselves. The ones that come with the mod tools are simple text so you can open them with notepad. They do not store the textures, but they do store the name of the textures. At the moment, the only program (That I know) that will import .mesh files is 3ds max.
Well, for the moment, DDR3 isnt quite worth it. The modules are still quite expensive compared to the DDR2 modules. For the moment it might not be worth it in my opinion. DDR2 should be plenty fast. The Q9450 should be alright as well since you might not plan on overclocking. Although it is a bit more expensive I think.
There are programs that can allow you to do that. Not sure if there is any free ones however.
WOW. That is very good. A very fair and positive review.
I honestly dont see how you could think that it is useless for gaming. If a game supports dual core, it will run on two cores on a Q6600. If it supports quad core, the Q6600 would run that as well. Granted on one core it would be slower that an 8400. So the only real downside I see to it is when you run programs with a single core on a Q6600. That and its 40 dollars more that an 8400. It might not be the latest and greatest, but it can still hold its own. If a program is built to run on
Well, there is Freelancer - Very good game, nice open galaxy plus quite a few mods that add loads of detail. X2: The Threat - Sorta like freelancer. Geared more towards combat. X3: Reunion - Like X2 but updated. Lots of stuff to do and try and some pretty cool mods as well. Those are the three main ones I can think of now. Those would probably be most closely related to EVE.
There is already a Battle Fleet Gothic mod in the works. Check it out in the modding forum. Looks to be allot of fun when they get some of it working.
Some of this would be very helpful to know. I would especially like to know about the alpha texture. One of the things for my mod needs to have alpha for the planet to hide portions of it in a sort of fog to make it invisible.
Ah, ok. I will try loading the binary mesh versions. Didnt realize that when I was loading the models. Will have to try this when I get home today.
I think that a few people were able to get some ships into the beta, or so I heard. Me personally, Im working on a Total Conversion so need to begin some modeling if I want it in game. Should be unique and different since it hasnt been done in a very long time.
Hmm, I just tried it and I cant seem to import any meshs. I click import, go to where the mesh files are (In this case the ones from the temp forge tools) and click a model. I go ok and nothing happens. It just goes back to the max screen with no errors. In the command line it says TXT Types unsupported in this version. Invalid header, aborting. sorry ;'( Running Max 9 32Bit.
The average score is from one person who hasnt even played the game yet. Its at the bottom in the reviews.
Just because a processor is clocked faster, does not mean that it is faster than any other cpu. I hardly see how a Q6600 is a POS. Its an affordable chip that has 4 cores, can overclock moderately well if the person wants to overclock, and it runs games just as well as some of the dual cores. Not everyone has to overclock a processor to get the most out of it.
Yea, but you practically have to pay for gold anyway to get some of those features that would really help in online play. Why would someone pay more to play a game online after you have already bought the game. It makes some sense when on xbox, but on a PC, it has always been free.
Yea, there is no script engine to do story or anything. I think one of the devs said that they MIGHT and I stress the word MIGHT add the scripting to an update down the road. The expansion however will have a story campaign to fill everyone about what is happening.
I dont think they wanted to advertise to everyone that the these tools were out. These are Beta-ish so I think they wanted to release the entire toolset and then have everyone download them.
