I think the problem is that the penalties for rejecting/not completing missions is huge. Frankly I'd like to see the AI beholden to the same wacky missions system, since it seems like it's all too easy for them to ally up and gang up again. The negative penalty for military action needs to be dropped as is completely silly. If the default stance in this game is war, it's WAY too easy to wind up in situations where everyone hates you; IE raiding your planets while you're out trying to

Culture should have an effect on diplomacy. A BIG effect. It should be as big as ships in terms of the game. Think about it: Planets should have multiple sets of alliegiances. If a player has allegiance>than owning player on another planet, he should be able 'force' consessions and gain bonuses based on a number of factors, such as number of planets, total amount of galaxy controlled, etc. From time to time, the player could make demands like, "Give X crystal/

This is bollocks. To all you people thinking "Gee, free country, internet companies should be able to do whatever they want" Have you ever considered that the internet is a vital service for many people? Why do you think politicians make such a big deal about kids getting computers in schools? The internet delivers a fundamental good to the people, and that's information. Sure, we could live without it, I mean, just 20 years ago we weren't badly off. But look at water?

Well, this is a more drastic solution than just fine tuning some statistics; How about giving flak a similar ability to the Vasari hanger's "Freeze" Ability? Instead of freezing ships in a local radius, they would slow down SC maybe by 25% or half. They way you could at least have a 'fighter screen' ahead of your forces. The issues here are: It may be calculation intensive It's tough to balance the exact ratios of radius and speed Do more f

Something I would love is some basic enemy statistics? Perhaps we could have a chart detailing the tax/income levels of enemy planets so we could tell what is worth attacking. Update it only when you have sight of the planet. I think captains/commanders/something to lend a sense of story to the game would be welcome as well. Of course, I would love to see Ground Battles Ground based defenses Somehow making siege frigates useful

Matched Resource for resource, flaks will do the job. If he has like 20 Carriers, then yeah, you're looking approx 40 Flaks to do it. Think about it, Two Squadrons/Flak vs Advent is 3*20=60/2=30, so get 40 to be on the safe side.

No, that idea doesn't work well at all, mostly because it would require way too much annoying micro/clicking from the player. Let's face it- the fundamental POINT of Sins of A Solar Empire is large scale battles with a reduction in micromanagement. That's why we have fleets, auto placement, and auto-ability use. Everyone's screaming about mines because they run fundamentally counter to the entire Sin's philosphy, in that you shouldn't pay heavily in blood for not micromanaging. In thi

Perhaps dealing with mines doesn't have to be a balance issue, but rather an AI issue? Perhaps if ships defaulted to 'mine clearing' as a default activity, that is that flees with scouts actively paired up to detect and destroy mines, rather than making the user do it manually, that would alleviate the mine issue greatly. Moving ships prioritize nearby mines, to 'clear the way' while ships with range to fire at enemy combatants without running into mines would do so. I posit an algori

It's a BETA. The whole point of it is balance discussion. Don't be such a tool. Regardless, yes I think that the star base should have weapons that cover the entire gravity well. If players want to 'Run the Blockade", they can, they'll just do it under fire. Like you, know, blockade runners...

75k..in Eastern MA? Where exactly are you living, some kind of rich people paradise..area? 75k is actually quite a good wage for a starting out person, most people get by with 40-50k in NYC. Not everyone can get a programmer's wage, and they live in apartments and such like every other normal person. 1600-1500 is pretty much what you pay for a nice apartment somewhere in Brooklyn or Queens. Of course, you don't have to pay for a car, I guess that factors in a bit. I mean, if you wa

Economic evidence indicates that the industry is doing nothing but -growing-. We heard this crap the last time Nintendo came out with the SNES, Sony came out with the PS1, and all those other times.

No, seriously. The alternative theory to evolution is magic. If species didn't evolve gradually overtime they either A) Were Seeded by Aliens B) Instasummoned by god, just like the bible. God probably used magic, but because he's god, he ignores the need for semantic components. C) Were always here forever D) ????Profit? A and C are pretty unreasonable (Although A is far more likely than B, frankly) and D pretty much professes ignorance. If you don't have

Also, Tibet has nominally been part of China since the 17th Century, right on through the days of the ROC. It would be like if Florida suddenly seceded from the union. China provides military and economic protection. The main issue here is that the 'autonomous region' is not really autonomous, and that the government interferes highly in religious affairs. It also continues to carry on an insulting propaganda campaign to demoralize the Tibetan people. If China granted them true religiou

Well, part of the fact is that the US and most other countries of the world are in no position to tell China what to do for anything. They can't agree in the UN, and quite frankly, no one has the balls to take the economic hit. Hell, you'd be crying once the economy comes crashing down because we unilaterily decided to piss off a major economic superpower. Face it- If America can't take the pain of occupying a dinky little part of the Mideast and fusses over deposing a tyrant and not be

Quite frankly if I'm TEC I like to go Marza, Radiance for Advent, or Devastator for Vasari. Akkans are terrible. The level 6 ability is lackluster, targeting is meh, Ion bolt isn't very good, and the colonization upgrade is less than useless. Normally you won't upgrade it until all extractros are already occupied, and the TEC have techs that allow them to pay only 100 for Extractors anyway. How often do you build extractors anyway? You might get 5, maybe 6 free extractors in a good game

Blizzard is successful because it delivers a polished product that runs well on a wide range of computer systems. The games are highly accessible from both a single-player and multiplayer perspective. Hard core guys like the multiplayer, and pretty much everyone else likes to tune in for the fantastic CGI, and the funny voice work. Blizzard is probably one of the few companies that gets distinctive audio right. They aren't very original. But don't fool yourselves, they're not an industr

I rarely build defense for the purpose of augmenting my fleet. If the enemy has a greater offensive force than me, I'll try to build ships and hit his vulnerable planets instead of engaging him directly. However, I use defenses to prevent exactly that from happening on my end. The most important key is the phase jump inhibitor- Otherwise the enemy will skirt out of range of your turrets and ignore your hangers. PJIs make them actually pay in blood. PJIs are also great for secu

Evolutionary theory is science- it's used in science and all major fields relating to biology. It's the principle theory behind modern genetics and instrumental in curing diseases and what not. There a -great deal- of unrefutable evidence, and it is accepted by scientists of every religion in the world. Intelligent Design is not. Intelligent design is religion specific, that is Judeo/Islam/Christianity. It is part of the American dogma that international peoples find unappealing. Intell

Does anyone have an effective use for these things? I built at least 20 of them, hoping to freeze my opponent's entire fleet, but it turned out that my illuminators just killed the enemy faster than they could target. What's the point? How long does it take a subjugator to freeze something? And why does it prioritize perserverance over freezing? These units would be great if only aquisition and targeting was alot faster. I think subvertors are ridiculously superior to subjugators just by

It's not that RA is super powerful. It's just that Improved Allegiance, Mass Trancedence, and Insurgency are extremely UNpowerful. You can't counter RA effectively with culture, Culture cannons, Nova Guns, mass capital ships or that sort of thing. Everything in the late game arsenal is so overshadowed by RA it's not even funny. The only thing that comes close (And to be fair, reasonably so) is Pervasive Economy, which probably won't trigger often from the Vasari player since his actual

Make it so repulsion uses more antimatter in a single 'push', and so that the cool down is fairly significant, like 20-30 seconds. This way it's good for situationally altering tactical situations, but you cant 'stall forever; Guardians shouldn't be able to put up a permanent cordon that keeps out enemy forces; that's just ridiculous and out of context.
