I shall remember to mourn the loss of my men in combat. Mourn indeed With the population of some planets being ~40 it's a wonder the TEC can keep their ships crewed =0 I shall now remove my tongue from my cheek. Tangent time. Any plans to include a morale

Yeah, we do. It's called beta... No need to get angry about it or get pissed off. Oops, it wasn't my intention to come across as all angry and what not (was it b/c of the frowning face?) Have you noticed any other research items not having their intended affect? I'm not sure but it seems that none of the researchable weapon damage buffs do anything. =\ Has this always been the case or did these upgrades work in previous versions? <
Parts of my tech tree seem to be useless...and I mean totally useless. I can't get the damage buffs for the laser and autocannon to actually increase the damage done by these weapons The artifact that is supposed to reduce all research costs doesn't work for me either. The issue remains even after uninstalling and reinstalling...is anyone else also having this problem?
Shamelessly stolen from the nVidia control panel: Gamma - The brightness of mid-tones without affecting shadows and highlights. This is useful because the brightness setting makes everything brighter or darker. Try playing around with your brightness and gamma settings to really see what each affects.
Is there a way to set in game gamma or brightness levels? Bit of a tangent, but recently it seems that games have stopped including an easy (e.g. gui) way to adjust gamma levels...wasn't this a fairly standard option in older games?
The pros and cons of parallel research are being discussed in this thread.
K, thanks for the reply I was a lil confused It's of little importance at this stage in the beta but the the research stations' description card makes reference to parallel research still being possible.
What? Still no jokes yet about lordkosc's HD containing copious amounts of porn? I wonder if Schem has seen this thread yet...
Look at the top for the various patch notes. I can't seem to find anything in the patch notes that directly refers to doing away with parallel research...the closest thing I found was: "+Multiple Research Labs are needed to reach higher tiers of research." But to me this is what you explained to the OP...that 4 research stations are needed to do research at the top two tiers. So wouldn't 8 stations provide two research streams each able to do re
the current research tree is too small to really warrant more effort than 1 tech at a time. That wasn't really my point Regardless of whether it is needed or not the parallel research ability doesn't work.
@Ride0 Parallel research doesn't appear to work =\ @Emperor The in game blurb describing what a research station does clearly states that "Multiple stations will allow parallel research." but they seem to have lost this ability =\
Has anyone had any success with actually conducting parallel research? Even with dozens of labs I can't seem to research more than one thing at a time =\
Another way to skin the cat is: Goto the "Mesh" folder and backup the 5 "SkyboxBackdrop#" mesh files Make 5 copies of the "SkyboxStars" mesh file Rename these copies as "SkyboxBackdrop2", "SkyboxBackdrop3", ...., "SkyboxBackdrop6" Another interesting file to play around w/ is "SkyBoxProperties" in the GameInfo folder. As always backup your original file. Note there are two "SkyBoxProperties" files in this folder, the one you want is 1.92 KB and is a "SkyboxBackdropData" fil
@Multi I know next to nothing about photography but I thought that pictures of space tend to appear overly dark b/c the exposure time isn't long enough to capture the dim light from stars. That being said, I also find that some of the backdrops are a bit too colourful.
Random question, I've seen reference patch v0.65.011 but my SD shows v0.65[b].010, are these the same? Also, will the 'hotfix' be released through SD like a normal patch?
Reminds me of the TV show Andromeda. That was all based around light seconds, etc. From the internet gossip I've seen I thought it was actually based around Kevin Sorbo and his ego.
@Blarko IMO this might be an interesting addition to an "ultra realism" mod but doesn't seem to have a place in vanilla SoaSE (such as we've seen it). I have to agree with Kryo and the others who point to the gravity well size as a being a major issue. I really don't understand how you interpret the well size to be bigger than what they are (variable scale, maybe?). The beta 1 already seems to have some elements that would totally negate or marginalize the attacking fleets' earlier targeting
@Frog Just making sure that you and Ninjas are on the same page ...is your reply conformation that all subsequent betas will follow the beta 1 testing and access guidelines? e.g. -All current beta testers will have access to all future betas. -No closed or partially closed betas are planned -Does "[this] is the full beta" simply reiterate that all beta testers will continue to have uniform access to f
@Yarlen...or anyone else who might know, In the single player game and galaxy setup is the marauders option referring to the pirates that guard unclaimed planets? Or will there be marauders that well...actually maraud? ATM the toggles for marauders and bounty don't seem to do anything =\
Just adding my "me too" to Spartan and Advalary's comments. In particular I think IC needs to address the reasoning behind why we will continue to "test game dynamics [with] only 1/3 of the game". I'm fine with IC holding back on releasing the "cooler" of the remaining two races...but throw us a bone =\ Personally, giving modders access to the AI would make me happy and could probably benefit IC as well. Also, can someone tell me how much of the TEC we currently have access to? Can we
@Spartan Isn't SSNinjas' only responsibility here to give his honest feedback and impressions of the beta? The moderators and forum rules dictate what is and is not acceptable here...seeing as how Ninjas' hasn't been banned it appears he's not violated too many of the rules. Now, maybe TGE's post has been edited but where does he take objection to your right* to comment on others' posts? (*I'm assuming you weren't using 'capacity' to mean 'ability') Also, what/where is TGE
Has anyone been able to find a way to edit the AI?
move to fast Q.E.D.
@Inert While I'm not a proponent of Megashipsofdoom I don't think adding them to the game would be entirely w/o strategy. IMO it's the old problem of turtling with access to enough resources to reach the highest tech level. Probably the gameplay would have to be balanced and tweaked to avoid the cold war tech race you describe but I think it could be done. However, I prefer something similar to the approach Silent Shade took...increasing capital ship hp, sp, abilities, etc so as to
@Sentient I realize your post is somewhat tongue and cheek but "morally outraged"? IMO Stardock and IronClad's greater obligation is to release a good game...not a game in August. Keep in mind that the beta testers have preordered the game and are primarily the ones posting suggestions and improvements that they'd like to see in SoaSE. Yes, the delay is disappointing but it would be so much worse if SD and IC came out and said "Thanks for all the great ideas but few or none will be implement
