I LOVE CAMPAIGNS....but I feel that if SINS had a campaign, I would have played thru it once and but it away.( Don't play online). Like I did with Company of Hero's, great game BTW. With skirmishes every game can have its own scenrio. It's own story. Anyone else feel this way?
To be fair, that's probably because without an AI mod, the COH AI is horribad. I think Sins is actually pretty good on the AI side as far as RTSes go. still ,I never unde
All you need are cap ships heavy cruisers and defense vessels.Try 4:1 heavy cruisers to defense vessels with as many cap ships as possible. The only thing that can counter your heavy cruisers are bombers which get torn to shreds before doing much of anything by a pittance of defense vessels, and heavy cruisers which you can out micro or out spam. A few shield support vessels are also useful.
Enemy support cruisers (Domina Subjugators and the TEC/Vasari equivalent) will mak

Alright. I read somewhere that every race has a way to stop enemies from warping away. I know the Advent one is Repulsion. Drive up an Iconus Guardian, put it in front of the retreating enemies, and watch them go careening backwards through the gravity well. What do the Vasari/TEC have?

All ships regenerate for free. Smaller ships are more maneuverable, they can follow your retreating capships. Oh, and every race has some way to stop you from warping. lastly, you will get your ass handed to you on a silver platter if you try to spam capships.

We need more control over what our ships attack. The only way to override default behavior is manual focusfiring, which is not always ideal. I'd like to see a set of commands that tell them a -type- of ship to attack. For example, you click a button, which opens a new menu. "Attack Light Frigates.." "Attack Long Range Frigates"..."Attack Carriers.. Things of that nature.
#3 The pacing of the game is unlike any other RTS I've ever played. It's not about reflexes. It's not about how fast you click things. It's not about mastering hot keys to access special powers. It's about your ability to build a coherent, effective strategy to obtain specific objectives. OODA. Observe. Orient. Decide. Act. That is the essence of STRATEGY.
Heavily arguable. Most RTSes definitely require faster fingers, but most (good) RTSes aren't about speed
In my experience you dont really have to build up to fight the pirates, just colonize a planet near the pirate planet, let them have thier fun with it, and rebuild once they leave. [dont keep any of your logistics stuff around and it turns out being cheaper] also that money isnt dissapearing, any time your opponent loses a ship and has bounty, that bounty is given to whoever destroyed it.
We did fly past and blow up his stabalizers, I took out 6 or 7 of them before he could stop me, but that doesn't do anything to the ships he already has. So it began to seem that sacrificing ships to kill his phase stabalizers would accomplish nothing because he'd still have the largest fleet, and now all my ships would be dead. While our team would have to rebuild our fleet, he still has his and since he hasn't been spending resources on his fleet he can afford to just build the gat

Sigh. 1) Allegiance of the unity is not useless. It's 10-40% more income from every one of your planets. 2) Capital ships never become worthless. A Revelation Battlecruiser can shut down up to 3 enemy capships PERMANENTLY as long as it has a steady supply of antimatter (Hellooo Steal Antimatter disciples). The Halcyon Carrier can increase the rate of fire of nearby ships by 22%. The Rapture can cripple your whole damn force's damage, or dish out huge damage to anything you

Hell no. 1) there are too many ways to keep a game going a long time. It would be easy in Sins to just keep a game going forever just to piss off the player, especially on larger maps. 2) The games are long. Really long. This often leads to people having to leave. 3) A leaderboard would encourage statwhoring, and people caring -way- too much about their stats.

10 Replies 8,379 Views

I agree it's OPed, but 3 players should easily be able to blow that away. Why the hell would you engage his -free- fleet head on like that? Send ships behind, just suicide gank his phase stabilizers.

Alright, I here a lot of bitching that Credits is the end-all, be-all resource...with it, you can get anything. This is why some see TEC as uber and Vasari as gimped I am here to demonstrate why this is wrong. Anyone ever see the "Offer amount" button in the market screen? Yeah, it does something, and it does something wonderful. USE THE "OFFER AMOUNT" buttons! Don't waste your time selling your metal/crystal the normal way unless everyone has plenty of it (e.g. a map with 2048

Firstly, there's a reason game reviews exist. There's a reason you can't return an opened game...but you shouldn't need to. Pop over to a good review site/subscribe to PC Gamer and read a review of the game, or play a demo. I haven't bought a game without playing a demo/reading the review in like 9 years. Secondly, the game story is accessible in a much more detailed format inside the manual, if you're into it...and I would recommend reading it. There was obviously quite a bit of though

They just need to a) Differentiate the damage threshold for SM gain. You should need more DPS to raise the mitigation on a HC than on, say, a scout b) Increase the threshold in general. It's way too easy to raise mitigation to cap.

Shield mitigation applies whether the shields are up or down. Ever notice that ships don't take a shitload more damage when their shields drop? Yeah, that's why. It's possible phase missiles bypass mitigation-i'm not sure.

Alrighty. System specs: Geforce 7600 GT, 256 mb video ram, latest drivers 2.8 ghz Pentium 4 processor Audigy 4 sound card. 2 gig. RAM Sins runs like shit. The computer adjacent to this one, with the same specs except a worse card and 1 gig less RAM, for some reason, has a much better frame rate. Adjusting the video settings does next to nothing. Anyone have any ideas why SoSE doesn't like my PC?

there could definitely be an imbalance..I just don't think it's with the Dark Armada RUSH. If you take a more slow-paced, reasonable tech to it (like how an Advent player might get Deliverence Engine or Allure of the Unity), it can be ridiculous. DA should be balanced to the other end-game abilities, which it really isn't currently.

144 Replies 50,611 Views

I'm unsure tbh. If they RUSH for it, I can't imagine it working well. The TEC economy will steamroll you, and combined arms with capship support >>>>>>> HC and carrier spam As for Advent...sorry, multiple advent capships + Advent support ships will fucking walk all over them.

Reply to Defense 101 in Strategy

1) Phase jump inhibitors make it take longer for him to jump right past your planets. 2) Guard your hangars with turret platforms. Cover them ALL with repair platforms. Repair platforms are incredible, they make it take SO MUCH LONGER to break through. 3) You will not defeat a competent fleet with *just* defense. Defense can hold back an offense and give you time to bring in your fleet, and help your fleet once there...but defense on its own wont win battles.

hmm...Looked over the stats for flak frigs, those might work well too. Again, though, you don't need to research scouts. As pointed out above, it's about the time to get them. if you are going to research shit to get to them...I'd just get carriers with fighters. Again, it's a cheap, effective, early-game solution.
Have you tried this online D-spoon? I am a little skeptical but always open to new ideas!
Yup.
That will only work if the LRM spamming player is stupid enough to attack the scouts, while scouts are only useful at killing LRMs.If you have an equal amount of resources invested into scouts, the LRM players will just ignore the scouts and kill cap ships, light frigates & buildings, then switch to building everything but LRMs making your army of scouts just as useful as

25 Replies 13,852 Views

Why? They are combat ships-all ships are. However, their power lies in their special abilities, not their regular guns. Also, what makes you think an LRM frigate is "thin skinned"? LRMs are -big- ships, as all frigs are.
