One thing with Haegemonia is that it doesn't work properly on Vista, usually crashing with a sound error after a little while. A great shame, as it's one of my favourite space games. I'm playing it on my EEEPC with XP installed, but it would be nice to play at full res on my desktop. I can dual-boot into XP though, which I'll do when I haven't got downloads going. Teal, it will run perfectly on your system (if you have XP), the requirements aren't very high but the g

Yes, Homeworld: Cataclysm was the best of the series for me. Regarding Nexus, I just finished playing it again on my Vista 32-bit system (GTX 260, 3GB RAM, AMD Dual-core 5200+), and it was completely stable, no crashes or errors at all (1.01 patch installed).

I'll second Nexus, a great game. Just finished it again recently. Fully customisable ships with strong tactics. You can boost power to various systems and target individual weapons or components on enemy ships with proper weapon line of sight. Downside is a linear storyline, no free-roaming as was originally planned. Also, Haegemonia / Hegemonia : Legions of Iron is another realtime 4x game, came out in '02 or '03 I think. Very similar to Sins in that res

Actually it can become a strategy game once you're far enough into it. An entire network of factories, satellites and defences can be purchased and spread across dozens of sectors, and there is no limit (other than the money you can earn) to the size of the fleet you can accumulate. You can create patrols, haulers and escorts, and all can be managed from within your own ship if you have the right ingame software. Even capital ships and carriers can be bought. It take

There are already 2 hotkeys and an interface button for this. The camera control button is between the Menu button and the Cinematic View button, and will toggle between Zoom to Cursor and Standard. Zoom to Cursor automatically locks on to objects beneath the cursor, Standard is a simple zoom to the middle of the screen. The two hotkeys are M to toggle, or hold down Left Alt (I think) to temporarily toggle.

Speaking statistically, the chance of rolling a 1 is 1 in 6 regardless, however the chance of rolling two 1's in a row is 1 in 6 x 1 in 6 = 1 in 36. I fully explore my planets anyway though, usually once I've built up everything else. I don't know the exact mechanics, but it seems just as likely to find something on the second try as on the first.

I just finished Cataclysm for about the 4th or 5th time since it was released, still a brilliant game. Also look at Haegemonia (aka Hegemonia), it implemented many of the ideas that Sins has now; ie the combination of 4x and RTS. Diplomacy and spying were both very well done. Still the best explosions in a space game as well :)

True, perhaps each planet should add +5 or +10 to the fleet cap. Or perhaps raise the tactical slots available to 35 for asteroids and 50 for planets or something similar. I still haven't had a problem so far though, with a quarter of a hundred planet galaxy conquered at the 38% upkeep level vs. 7 AI players. I'm sure it gets much harder though depending on positioning and against humans.
But that´s the whole point! Even with the enormous difference in available money and resources, in this game Jamaica could support a vast fleet. Of course, a country like Jamaica would have neither the resources nor the money to keep a fleet of even a single carrier battle group operational. As I said, ridiculous. Ralph Hoenig, Germany
Yes, you're right, I was looking at economy with that example. In terms of size though, that'
On the allegience problem, the OP mentioned: As it is now, to take an earthern analogy, the US and, say, Jamaica, could support the same fleet (CVNs and all), if both spent 75% of their budget for it. This is clearly ridiculous.
Just wanted to respond on this point, as I don't see it as valid. Both countries are vastly different in terms of size and raw material availability. In a fair comparison, eg the US and Russia, it makes more sense. Both can

Press the Auto-placement button in the middle of the interface, just to the left of the action grid and just above the ping button. You probably toggled it on by accident.

I haven't had any problems - select the ship you want to be the flagship, then shift+band box select all the ships you want in the fleet. Then press the create fleet button and the currently highlighted ship (light grey in the empire manager) will be the flagship, and the rest of the selected ships (dark grey) will join the fleet. I usually just use auto join fleet to add more ships, but to do it manually I'll just shift-click the new ship with the fleet selected and press the create f
