Couldn't help but notice the title of the thread. I think subscription games like WoW have mainly taken over what's left the PC gamimg market. You've got millions of PC gamers spending $240+ a year on WoW. Some don't even bother purchasing or playing other PC games. There's also the shift by many publishers and development teams to console gaming. It's somewhat easier to work with: pre-spec'd hardware, gaming experience can be fairly consistent, and development for consoles
I have a hard time imagining how you would control SINS on a PS3. Without a mouse and keyboard, I would find playing RTS games in general "difficult to control". As for your 46" TV, I doubt SINS would look that "awesome" on it. A 1080p HDTV with a screen size that big doesn't offer that fine of a detail resolution. I tend to think of it as having a 800 x 600 resolution on a 24" LCD monitor. You can start to make out the pixels. :)
...I had a Novalith cannon and had fired only twice on a nearby Vasari world I didn't know that it takes three shots to knock a enemy colony world out of the game and so I retract my complaint on that point.
The amount of shots required to "destroy" a planet is dependent on the infrastructure health of the world in question. The Novalith, btw, does 3000 planetary damage. So when you had to fire your 3rd shot, it was because the world was recolonized after your s
You can already rename capital ships (select one and press y or click on the arrow button above the little screen in the center of the lower panel). As for crawling around the individual units, I think that would be too taxing for most of the gaming systems running this game. Although I do admin, the only other game I've seen do something similar is TA Spring.
Will 1.03 saved games work with 1.04?....
Usually the case is: no. This has been true since basically the first public beta. Also weird things tend to happen when you play a older version saved game...like I found out in Beta 3.
Nova would be sweet... I'll have to look into that.
Hmm, I should take the modeling course next quarter just so I can start on modeling the Nova class myself. :D :o That Miranda with "phasers" is so cool! I'm going to reread some of these posts so I can add the lasers to the various hardpoints. Although, I don't remember the Miranda class variant (the one Ez modeled) having phaser cannons mounted in the rollbar. I only remember photon torpedoes being th
If I could model, I would love to start on creating a Nova class starship or even the Nova class variant, U.S.S. Rhode Island (captained by Kim).
I'm going to mod the Miranda ship so it uses the Kol's lasers with increased shielding and hit points. :) Then I'm going it play with it until some sort of beta for this mod is released. :D
Okay, I just built a few and tested it. I don't have that strange glow about my ships. It might be that the glow is part of some sort of group ability when you group ships into a fleet and send them off to battle. Overall, I love the ship. Very nicely detailed and well done for a first model. :D I look forward to its inclusion into the ST mod. :)
Those are holy undead starships. :P
Ok, guys, here you go, a link to the Miranda if you want it. WWW LinkI would appreciate it if maybe some of you with modeling experience would *ahem* "play test" it and see if you can figure out what is wrong with my tangents, and maybe give me some feedback. Pretty much everything is done as far as I'm concerned. I may try and make a more pronounced bump map, b/c earlier I made one that looked really awesome, but now I can't find it... whatever. Thanks for all the feedback already guys!E
Here's big question that no one here has answered: Is every copy of the game each player is running legit? That means: is each person running their own copy of the game that they either purchased online or through retail?
First off, it is still in BETA, meaning nothing is finalized yet. So as to how the final game turns out, we do not know for certain. If the screenshot previews hold up, then we'll be in for a treat. The other points you have made except for 1 and 6 are doable to a point. 1 and 6 would severly shorten the market range that this game would be sellable to because it would severly increase the amount of resources a system must have for the game to run at a decent pace even in the midst o
Several large game ads and one mini-overview have been available on FilePlanet for a good year now. The official trailer has also been out a while now and have been view many many times on You Tube as well as FilePlanet. So as to why you missed us in the first place: I have no clue. Welcome aboard matie! Now hand me 'yer gold! <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/BigSmile.gif"
I say Monday the 17th. I'm assuming that the Beta 3 MP test will consists of just the TEC faction (like previous Betas), and that most of the work was completed sometime last month. Of course, if they do let us play with one more race...I'd be justifiably happy
8 bits = 1 byte. A 100Mbit (per second) connection roughly transfers at 12.5Mbytes per second. Although the numbers might be visually equivalent, the units are not. They are both measurements of storage. Since we are used to base 10 figures, we usually deal with bytes instead of bits (which is base 2). The machine handles everything in binary (base 2) and therefore does it all in bits (not bytes). I like the 5th (from top) image of the bow of that cruiser and the 3rd (
I would like to see the sources where you get your information and conclusion that "in 2 decades time" the development of AI will exceed human intelligence and capability. From the research I've done online and info from reputable resources, I see a sentient AI far from being able to match a human's ability. We already have a very tough time trying to get a AI to respond to human facial gestures and so forth (this is still being developed at MIT).
Or help them come up with a solution faster.

Schem, Hmm, ironic you had a bad experience with NewEgg Schem. Usually if you're calm and mannered with them, it usually helps. As for you motherboard, which ASUS one did you end up getting? I only know of a few of the lower priced ones that experience the USB Overload error. The solution that has worked for a majority was to flash to the latest BIOS version. And it can be a huge pain when you find out it's your motherboard. I've had a few system mobo's go bad on me dur
Well, I was just saying, since lasers aren't used by any other type of ship beyond the capital ships. And seeing how it basically reminds me of Freespace and Babylon 5's capital ship's lasers, they should be a bit more powerful.
Err, whoops, I have those to vids, after the hourglass. I forgot about those vids since I have a habit of hitting the ESCAPE when those come up.
I don't put much faith or trust into iBuyPower or CyberPower. I have ordered prebuilds from them in the past. When a part runs out, they swap in something with the same feature set but from a non-reliable brand like SOYO or ECS and don't bother to inform you. The Killer K1 works as a packet prioritizer, which means it puts your gaming packets out first instead of last. It might (being the key word) lower your ping some if your downloading, but it won't give you 50 ms ping when y
