From the Firingsquad interview: Blair Fraser: There isn’t much question that the capital ships are the dev team’s favorite units but as to which ones I don’t think there is any particular favorite. It really depends on what strategy one is going for. So why are the capital ships so interesting? Well for starters they are much bigger than the other units (e.g., 500

It has been said that you can name them as well. But that is a cool idea: keep track of each individual ships kills. Maybe even paint insignias on the hull like fighters... but that is probably getting a little carried away.
Oh ok. If your definition is the correct one then I'd definitely agree with you that we need a way to keep them reigned in if we want.
Schem, I think that "orient itself" just means that it will rotate in order to shoot most effectively - not that it would go chasing after targets. Offensive or defensive you are going to want to be using your ships max firepower I would think.
Will you be able to pause the game in Sins? In multiplayer: No. How frustrating would it be to have to sit there for 10 minutes while one of your opponents took his dog for a walk? In singleplayer Blair said that they might have a pause button and quite possibly allow you to speed up or slow down time. Kind of a Sim-city type deal: pause
Ships do gain experience through combat and experience can be "bought" with training but as far as I know this experience is attributed to the ship and not to the people on it.
Should I be concerned that I haven't received any sort of email confirmation of my order?
Naturally, the definition of tactics/strategy isn't well defined so I guess we can each have our own definitions. There is no clear line and my opinion is just that - my opinion. Let me try to explain my distinction between the two: Tactics are the way that your ships fight and maneuver. It is things like what to attack (specifically), w
Well I think they were more thinking along the lines of the multiplayer aspect of the game, not the single player. It is true that in HW a single engagement can be decisive but this is definitely not always the case. HW is heavier on the tactics than on strategy but I think that is part of the appeal: it is exciting. But the strategy is also a vital component. No amount of good tactics can overcome the advantage granted by an opponent's far superior strategy that gives him a nu
2 questions: 1. The checkout page doesn't mention any shipping cost even with the CD version. You don't plan to add that on later do you? 2. You have the paypal logo stamped on your page but don't seem to give a way to use it. Am I missing something?
RTS. It requires you to think fast and make tough decisions quickly. It just adds that extra element of who can think quicker into the mix. That is why chess matches are timed. If they had all the time they wanted to sit and think then it would be much harder to sneak things past your opponet and hide your strategies. Games would grind on and on.
Well, Yarlen, they have already said that a multiplayer online game can be saved and resumed at a later time. It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch for a different player to take over the spot of a player that couldn't make it back for round 2. I think that is what P5y was getting at.
Big boom is good... but don't forget the old saying, oh how does it go? "It's not the size of the hump, but the motion of the camel." What it looks like is important too. If the kablooie in the Nexus 2 vid looked like a huge version of something you might see in Super Mario Brothers then you wouldn't have been impressed, no matter how big it was. In fact, what it looks like becomes even more important when you supersize it since it becomes such a prominent feature.
This has got to be the best clan recruitment post ever lol. Nice work
Seems like a logical assumption. Think back to that screenie of the Marza using raize planet. Anything that happened to be in that mushroom cloud is pretty screwed but something on the other side of the planet ought to be ok. What I meant when I said "damage at random" was that you couldn't precisely target where that nuke was going to hit the surface. You could be sure that it was gonna hit something below your ship but not much more specific than that.
AI takes over. And Kryo's right. No joining after game start.
... looked at my post again... I don't know where I pulled 10% from, really don't. But you get my point Medcatt, keep in mind that Ascendancy is a very old game. My CD has a copyright date of 1995 on it. But I've never played GC2 so I can't answer your question.
Yea, on that topic I still haven't figured out how to change some of your profile information. Stuff like Location, Interests, IRC, Quote, and all that stuff. All I've found is how to mess with the pictures. And not being able to use gif's is kind of a bummer. Oh, and have you noticed how that "NO PHOTO" picture stays in the background even if you have a photo? Just look at Schem's picture. It is shorter that the allowed 50 pixles so the NO PHOTO is clearly visible under it. And yo
So you're saying kind of a percentage based blanket bonus? Like in your example the planet was about 10% grasslands so the whole planet would have a 10% population bonus. Is that what you mean? That could work I suppose.... but seems like a lot less fun. That is one of the many things I hated about Sots. All it gave you was some number that described how suitable a planet was to your race's needs and that was it. All the buildings and everything else was just a number that you had littl
*Waves* Yea, these new boards do give a bad first impression. Think they are starting to grow on me a little bit though. Might just be a matter of getting used to them. *hopes*
my guess was that it was going to take more of a total war approach, where you can chose to buy indescrete little off-camera buildings that would populate the ground, these would have indirect bearing on your empire (i.e. bonuses, money, populace, resource collection etc.) I don't think so and here's why: Blair has mentioned different types of te
So far my only complaint is how they handled the forum transition. One day I tried to get on the forums and got a "The page cannot be found." Tried to go to the main site (www.sinsofasolarempire.com) and it was just like a picture or something and all the navigation was stripped off. No warning, no announcement, no explanation, just GONE. I didn't know what was going on. So I dug around the site a bit (they didn't totally disable ALL of the pages <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smi
Of course, there would have to be requirements for a clan to be formed, or else anyone and their neighbor would start making clans. I don't think that's really a problem. Making a clan should be easy. I don't see a problem with "anyone and their neighbor" making clans. So what if there are a hundred little 2-man clans? They will be lost in obscur
I second everything Vinco said. I know that the system Ironclad developed for matching players against foes of their own skill level will be cool and all but I'd really like to see it be able to do something similar for clan vs. clan matches. Perhaps even being able to set up a game and issue a challenge to another clan or an open challenge to any group that wanted to step foreward. In other words, I don't want to be limited strictly by the matchmaking system. I want to be able to set u
Wow, I stop looking for a few days and the old forum dissapears. And they get a publisher!! This is good news. One step closer to being ready to release the game
