No, it's not a bug - structures in orbit continue to function even if the colony is unowned or under a different owner. The player loses the ability to build any more, and anything unbuilt at the time they lose the planet is destroyed.

Unfortunately just getting the error doesn't give much info. I suggest running dxdiag and emailing its results along with the description of the error and when/how it happens to On another note, to exhaust what's been suggested already: did you try a reinstall? Runtime errors are typically the result of some files being messed up, it's possible that yours got corrupted somehow. Also, are you running a mod? Try reinstalling/making sure no mods are runni
It might also be possible that they snuck in a change, to be honest it's been a long time since I paid attention to that specifically :)
It's always worked that way, byproduct of how the game engine functions. It can be annoying if you're not watching the battle, but it's not a bug :P A while back the dev team said they'll think about how to make it a bit friendlier, but that's probably taken a little back seat to some other things they're working on. It's not just phase jumping either. All orders get permanently interrupted with abilities that cause interrupts.
My post wasn't meant to say that the forums are fine unmoderated, but that they don't need *additional* moderators :) Like kryo said, Stardock has traditionally been hands-off, and this situation is different from GalCiv forums so they are adapting. Kryo is a full time moderator and he does a great job at it(even though you don't see him posting a ton, he finds pretty much everything) - so I don't think the forums are in need of a second ;)
if enemyFleetSize > x then retreat()
That, my friend, is a very complicated equation :P The Sins AI takes many things into consideration when deciding retreats. The primary factor is a relative fleet strength comparison, and if your fleet is 75%+ "stronger" than the AIs, it will seriously consider (and in most cases will) retreat. There's other stuff in the equation like strategic importance of the location (enemy grav well, neutral, friendly/homeworld, for example), othe
You may be right. ;) I believe I saw the 200% mentioned somewhere, but I don't remember where. Generally that's when I put stuff in parentheses and not word it as absolute fact :)
This is what happens when one isn't careful with who is given power. Over at those forums they were just nuts about warning or banning anyone who talked about DRM and piracy. One of the things I like about these forums is that Stardock and Ironclad don't force talk of this nature to the back room. I want to see this continue, so any moderators that are "hired" have to be people that can truly moderate in the way that Stardock and Ironclad want them too. Otherwise, they run the risk of ali
You can automatically share the in-game generated maps without needing everyone to download them separately, but yes, Ironclad is exploring ways to make Galaxy Forge created maps auto-shared as well :)
Oh that's true, thanks Terraziel - it's been a while since I messed with GF, and forgot you could add templates through it :)
Replays are saved automatically when a game ends - they should be in the AutoRecord-Multiplayer folder in one of the two paths listed above :) To watch them just click the Watch button when you click Single Player.
Need more info :P Is it just the map or are you trying to run a mod with it? Did you make the map through GF or add anything with notepad?
The theme is part of Stardock's MyColors software, which you can get through SDC or downloading from Stardock.com. Afterwards, you can simply register your Sins serial # with it, since it doubles as registration for the Sins theme, and it will install it for you ;) You'll need a Collector's Edition or Walmart purchase to get it, though.
I usually don't do this, but in light of Blair and Craig posting a few things today, I'd like it to get un-lost for a little while longer. ;p
Alas, it's not about both sides being unhappy, it's about both sides making baseless accusations :P
For my part, I bought it, I'm stuck with it (because Stardock's registration system is such that I can't legitimately sell it) so there's nothing for me to do but try to get the parts of the game that are poor (the AI, the diplo system, the research system to some degree) fixed and to warn others that in my opinion they are well advised to wait for that to happen.
Or, you could point them to the demo so they can see for themselves, rather than reading biased (from b
but if the single player side of Sins (the diplo and the AI) don't receive sufficient attention then there's really no reason for me to continue buying Ironclad's products. I have no use for developers that neglect SP gamers.
The amusing thing is that a good number of MP folks complain about the opposite - that it's only the SP crowd that's getting attention, and not them. Who's right? :P Neither.
I've got both Sins and WiC, and like someone else has mentioned, it's apples and oranges. WiC is great for a quick action fix because that's all the game is about (now if only my Nvidia driver didn't poop out on it every few minutes), and Sins is slower, and more about empire management - there are really few points that they can be compared on. Graphics-wise, WiC does use DX10 with some very pretty effects whereas Sins strived to play well on older machines. It still looks great, but i
Also, I did notice that occasionaly after starting a game in 1.03, it will change the settings back to the default. I was wondering if that is a bug, or did i do something wrong?
It's a bug, fixed for 1.04, for now you can fix it by re-accepting the game options when you load.
You mean you made the maps before 1.03? If so, open each map in notepad and change the versionNumber from 0 to 1. If you made them with the 1.03 GF, they should show up.
Yes, they wanted to create a non-cheating AI that has no advantages (either global or map-specific).
Unfair AI is the only one that currently gets an unfair economic boost (+200% AFAIK). Hard AI has no bonuses whatsoever. :)
You know I didn't suggest or imply that they COULD do something about it, merely voicing the possiblilty that they knew of the issue before shipping.
They did, and they've had a ticket open with Nvidia about it for months and months prior - but they can't delay launch while Nvidia figures out what to do with it, either. Nvidia driver crashing is a problem for a lot of games. For me, Sins is okay with it - but World in Conflict and Hellgate: London are virtua
Are you referring to the militia ships surrounding all the planets? It sounds like it, and in that case it's not the AI - simply disgruntled militia forces that hate everyone equally :)
Well, judging from the 1.04 preview, it doesn't looks like any core stuff changed - just some ship entity files and such, since it's mostly a balance update. gameplay.constants is changing again, but it's just adjusting market values and shouldn't make mods crash/insta-win like 1.03 did. I don't forsee any serious issues with stuff breaking completely.
