Okay. I don't know if anyone cares, but I've done the (rough) math, and as far as I can tell, fighters may kill Siege Frigs *TWICE* as fast as bombers. Rough calc: Bomber: 44.4 damage / 13.5 seconds with 50% damage vs Light armor = 1.644 damage per second. Fighter: 19.5 damage / 12 seconds with 200% damage vs Light armor = 3.25 Might be a good idea to stock fighters for planetary defense :D
Checking the .entity file, LRMs do ANTIMEDIUM. But, yeah. Fighters > LRMs (they do 2x damage vs them, whereas bombers only do 0.5x). Is there any in-game way to see what type of damage a ship does or will we have to compile a cheatsheet for it?
Cu

Actually, looking at this closer... Siege frigates have Armor category "Light". Bombers do damage of the type ANTIVERYHEAVY while Fighters do ANTILIGHT. Checking in gameplay.constants... DamagePercentBonus:ANTIVERYHEAVY:Light 0.5 Hmm, so it looks like Bombers do half listed damage vs siege frigates... DamagePercentBonus:ANTILIGHT:Light 2.0 ...while fighters do double their listed damage. That just might be significant :

Just came up in IRC... talking about the various types of armor and whatnot, and it seems that Siege Frigates have the same armor class as that of long-range frigates... the same armor that fighters are supposed to chew through. Has anyone tried them as a counter to the siege frig spam?

That folder is correct, but IIRC, Local Settings is a hidden folder by default, so you might need to make it visible first (or just type the path in the address box instead of searching/browsing for it).

http://www.penny-arcade.com/2008/02/06/#22385
Installed Sins of a Solar Empire on the Night Engine yesterday, to see if it would be something we'd consider advertising. Uh... yes. Yes. Yes a thousand times over. This is why it's nice to work with a smaller company, because if they want to advertise something on your site, they're not pulling from some budget a year in advance of the game's release. Stardock sent a full, boxed retail copy of the title and asked if we'd be

Where'd you hear that? The (very) old site lists a LUA scripting engine, and I imagine there must be some degree of scripting already implemented for the tutorials...
Have you played the game yet? That's the primary AI strategy. Spam a planet with siege frigates, rinse, repeat. It's no fun rebuilding your colonies every minute.
Yep. Got through a pair of games today. A quick 1 hour small, and a long 7 hour med, all with Hard/Random AIs. Haven't had that problem. I just think it'd be a little prudent to let things settle a bit before calling for the nerf. :p If your opponent is able to afford that before y

Or, you know, even if it's 2k, we don't know if the per-ship fleet capacity cost has changed. We have no idea what 2k capacity equals as far as ships goes at the moment. I think we can manage to wait 'til Monday :p

*shrug* I have a hard time believing anyone was being "jacked" $5. I can understand a bit of disappointment, but really, we all apparently were willing to pay $45 for the game (and agreed to that price!), the chance to have input on the final product, and the chance to play in the beta. As Kryo said, the retailers don't want to be undercut, and $45 is hardly worth complaining about when the average price for PC games is more like $50-60. It's not like they've lowered the online price -- the

Nothing to say but "congrats" to IC and SD. Can't wait to get my grubby paws on this. ...I'll blame you if I fall behind on my thesis work, for the record.

Unless, of course, the "fleet point building" (if there is one) isn't logistics based, but some other quantity-based (of which the volcanic planets might have more of). We just don't know yet.
I should point out though that they did no damage at all. Just kinda weird is all... Thats because damage is not linked to when the graphics hit the target, but rather when its fired.
Sorta, I think. In the .entity files, under weapon types, there's a property called "DamageApplyType". Most weapons are set to "BACKLOADED", so they operated just like you mentioned. Some, n

I'm not really much a fan of banners in general (I'm one of those people that tends to disable sigs in forums that support them), but hey... why not. And maybe a Sins userbar: A start, anyway. I'll probably put more up once I can get on and take some screenshots. :p
