I'm sure when Beta 3 and multiplayer come out all those players using capital ships exclusively are going to have a hard time dealing with players who make use of all classes of ships.

Ceyan, sending anything at your allies to be blown up for the bounty would only work if you had a huge bounty on your head. Remember, the bounty reward on the ship needs to be larger than the cost of the ship. If it isn't, you're better off just giving your ally resources.

Ceyan, what do you mean humans can exploit being able to collect bounty? It was mentioned above to have your ally cancel your alliance, blow up one of your planets, and then ally with you again. Sure, it would lower your bounty. It also blows up one of your worlds. Isn't that what you were trying to prevent by lowering the bounty?

I like the Veteran status idea. Maybe have a few levels, they start off Green, after a few fights they become Hardened, eventually they could become Veteran, and after a long time they become Elite. No abilities unlocked or anything, just some boosts to firepower and shield/hp, similar to what the cap ships get.

Gah! I just noticed this post when it had hit 66 replies, so I had to read through them all. Pure torture. There are some truths that everyone needs to understand about bounties: 1) A bounty is not a payment to the pirates. A bounty is held in an account somewhere. Someone only receives this money after destroying some ships/structures 2) Bounties can be collected by anyone (except the one who posted the bounty, and the one who the bounty is on). The bounties are

There aren't any T4 experimental units because units don't belong to tech levels. In SupCom, once you get the T2 units, the T1 all become obsolete. I've played the demo, and once you get the T3 "Loyalist" bot, it pretty much renders every other land unit obsolete. In Sins, all of your ships stay useful throughout the game, they aren't replaced by the newer model.

I have to disagree with everyone else about static defense placement. When I place my structures, I keep them in a tight ring around the planet. This way I can easily cover everything with multiple gauss cannons. There isn't a point to building them really far out, they still can't hit ships that just enter the system. If all your defenses are too far out, then they aren't even protecting your planet from a siege frigate that manages to run past them all. The dead space around the planet isn't w

I've seen AIs fighting (My two allies come to my capital and start duking it out, need a bouncer ship), but nothing serious. This might be due to the fact that the AIs don't like giving out intel pacts though...

How long do you think a capital ship could stand against the firepower of 60 missile frigates? Quite long, actually, if I read the files correctly. LRMs are attack type antimedium vs armor capitalship: DamagePercentBonus:ANTIMEDIUM:CapitalShip 0.75 Which would give them a malus of 25%. A LRM does 88 damage per shot and shoots every 8 seconds. 60*88*.75=3960 A

I've seen this massing light carriers strategy, too. Only, in my game yellow likes to send fleets of about half light carriers and half LRMs. The ultimate static defense killer fleet. Oddly enough, yellow is the only AI I've seen using this fleet composition. In the same game, in the beginning, I was in a system with only one other AI, blue. We allied, and had a very long and prosperous friendship. I had found the jump drive relic, so I was off conquering other systems very early in the

On XP: C:\Documents and Settings\ Username >\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\SavedGame\ But good luck reading the save games. A new game is dozens of MBs of text, and later in the games I've heard of files in the hundreds of MBs.

Awac, you say capital ships aren't rare enough for you. I then take it you must rely on them heavily. Say you have 10 capital ships. That's 400 ship points. For the same amount of ship points, and less credits, I can build a fleet comprised of 32 cobalts and 60 javelis missile frigates. Then I could spend the 6900 credits I would have left over upgrading them. How long do you think a capital ship could stand against the firepower of 60 missile frigates? You find capital ships too common because

6) This isn't a suggestion per se, but I find the game is generally too easy. I'm not sure if it's my tactics or that the AI doesn't really attack, or that defensive structures are over powered, it's probably a combination of all three. Basically, I quickly grab 3-5 systems, fortify them with 5-10 heavily packed Gauss Cannons, and 3-7 hangars with Bombers (and I place the hangars inside the radius of as many cannons as possible). For whatever reason, this configuration

Ships do turn on a dime when using abilities or phase jumping. I had a Cielo, sitting in range of an enemy gauss platform. It was trying to use designate target on something behind it. Instead of making an arcing turn and gaining some speed, it just sat there and turned on a dime, all the while getting pounded by the gauss platform. I believe if it would have done one of those arcing turns, it would have gotten out of range before being blown to pieces.

This game has a definite advantage in focus-firing, particularly when you send all your bombers and frigates onto enemy capital ships. There is actually a disadvantage of focus firing. As all of your ships fire on one target, it's shield mitigation goes up, meaning it takes less damage. This means that by focus firing, your total damage output actually goes down. This isn't the case with unshielded targets however, so focus all you want on those gauss p

One technical bug I noticed has to do with the noise the robotics cruisers make, for one it's kind of annoying on it's own but whenever i come in contact with one of these things, the sound effect it makes kind of overrides everything. Since the computer uses a TON of those things, I've had entire battles where all I could here were those blasted cruisers. I second this. With only a few Hoshikos it can really get on a person's nerves.

I think your scenario there puts the defenses as way too powerful. This game is about the strategic placement of fleets, so with a good intelligence system, you should be able to see this large enemy fleet coming, and use your own fleet to defend. The static defenses should not kill most of a fleet on its own before a defensive fleet even arrives. This would make it much too difficult to attack a planet.

2. the trade ships are not running from star to star now. is this a bug or becouse of the pirates. I don't think trade ships went between stars in beta 1 either. Refinery ships did, but not trade ships.
