You don't spend that much time in SoaSE zoomed in close enough to notice things like that. It would be nice to have as an option that can be turned on/off though it wouldn't be top of most peoples wish list. We'll know more soon enough, the whole question of ship animations (like rotating sections & turrets) and animated texture effects are a bit of an unknown atm. Its all far too exciting

That startup gadget screenshot really is quite stunning, the contrast of the SoaSE logo (which has always looked great) against a calm green back ground photo somehow just works. Its like Ayres Rock, Australia surrounded by dense green foliage and a clear blue sky.

I think they are getting rather stressed waiting for the release and exhibiting strange behaviour. If you've noticed the posts full of 'over dramatic bullsh*t' (as Shod put it once) have started to multiply again so better to go off topic I reckon. I'm sure it will calm down again in a few days...
not to be a pain in the ass or anything, but isn't it rather hard to compare a first person shooter to...well whatever cross genre thing they have going for sins.
Its subjective but you can gague it in pure entertainment and enjoyment value so long as you are not bias to one genre over the other. There has been some good games recently competition is high.

I have an Intel quad core @3.2GHz per core and used Perfmon on Vista to check, there is no evidence to support anything more than 2 core utilisation.

having just played Crysis on an 8800 GTX don't for any minute underestmate the game there has been some real suspect reviews of Crysis. 1) If Soase is as enjoyable as Crysis then you will have struck gold, Beta4 is not as enjoyable as Crysis Retail in my opinion. I sincerly hope that SoaSE Retail release is as good in pure entertainment value, we will know soon and the signs are good. 2) The Nvidia 8800 GTX has SOOooo much overhead with SoaSE that it crys out for more, there ha

No it won't use 4 cores its not Crysis in space, but it IS the best space RTS/4x game money can buy. SoaSE doesn't need 4 cores, use ur central heating system instead ;)

I cant seem to export obj files from max with the textures, I have to re-add them to the mesh from code herders Mesh editor. I was lead to believe that the textures were included with the Mesh along with the UV mapping as one complete entity, though I might have got that completely wrong :NOTSURE: Its got something to do with materials which I haven't figured out yet its almost as if you have to rebuild the material. In fact thats it isn't it the texture isn't in the obj at all its in the mtl.

hmm maybe we all got the clear message because we understood it in the first place, beta testers make a lousy focus group for a retail release as we are all too bias and well informed.
rumor was IBM which would be an interesting development and one I doubt Intel would welcome
...and why would that be interesting? It would completely kill the desktop processor market as IBM would not want to take on Intel head to head, they would use the AMD fabrication plants for chips in things like the PS3 to keep pace with demand. They are just looking for a cheap deal thats the good business sense.

Its hard to get in everything you want in such a short media bite, I think you did very well pointing the SoaSE unique characteristics so people watching that wouldn't come away thinking 'just another RTS in space'. Its also an interesting concept you bought up.... to piss off the AI such they will come for the kill and how that might tie in with diplomacy. Thats the first time you've really talked about it in clear terms and I'm sure will appeal to all strategy fans.
It is a VERY good single player experience and it is not a mere warm up for multiplayer.
Don't hide it then, sell* it... You need to tell the world how good it is and why, not the beta testers that have already bought the game we want you to suceed ;p *btw my Girl Friend is in marketing hence the prod, and 'help'
since obviously the only drawback to multiplayer in the past on RTS games was the processing power for the host computer and the internet connection required
You forgot to mention the hordes of lame players that like to distrupt gameplay in ways not possible in other game genres.

In preparation of the full release game is it recommended that we remove or uninstall the Beta game & profile settings? If memory serves we are supposed to keep a license file to prevent activation count problems. I am just trying to think ahead so the download and install goes smoothly on Feb 5th.

You won't need to be online to play single player skirmishes, though you will need to be online to download the retail release of SoaSE from Stardock in the early stages of release outside North America. It sounds to me like the single player experience is going to be like a bot match with a random map generator. Which will be of interest to players wanting to warm up to the multiplayer experience and clearly where the game is targeted. -- Pure speculation unless someone who re

It seems as though there won't be a single player campaign for SoaSE from the latest DEV update. They descibe some format of player vs. AI skirmishes using random map generation and player design instead. We'll know soon enough what this means...
BigBangTheory: There's a tutorial..
Yes I realise that, I have Beta 4 running. The Tutorial was nicely done but is in no way an acceptable substitute for a single player experience which goes through a plot/story and progressively introduces ships, abilities and harder challenges. If majorly re-worked I guess a tutorial lasting many gameplay hours could work but thats not what has been described to date. So my question still remains:
How
Q: Does the game come with a campaign? A: NO. Instead, the game comes with a much richer single player "skirmish" experience than most RTS's. Sins supports random map generation, a powerful in-game map designer, etc. Normally, RTS's have campaigns but their skirmish-modes limit users to a handful of pre-made maps. We've banked on players preferring to create their own epics over having us provide a pre-canned one.
How is the story and learning curve going to be pres

There were I think two distinct types of Drakh (unless some were wearing exo-suits or armour), the last episode of Crusade showed them side by side. Going back to the SoaSE mod theme, the vasari do appear to have a reasonable likeness. I think we need to see what IC have done with the single player campaign to get a better idea on how stories and plots might play out in game.
Would defenetly fit for Drakh Horde. They did acually sound like that in their first appearance during the show.
I remeber in their 1st appearance they had a shadow/distortion aura about them suggesting they had evolved along the lines of their Shadow masters. However later in the Series and in Crusade they completely dropped this effect and went for the more traditional alien look. Shame really...
I hope Amras and devs of that mod will allow their modells to be imported to B5 mod for sins.
I approached the subject with them, and they politely pointed out that they are busy developing their models for their B5 mod which is quite understandable. Once the X3:B5 mod is made public then that is probably the right time to ask so they get the credit and appreciation they deserve for their mod before considering other projects. Altenatively you could just build th
But isn't the purpose of single player a.i. to make the player more experienced so they'll be competent enough to successfully compete in multiplayer?
Not necessarily, though I do personally share that view there will be many players that never go near multiplayer for many different reasons. Multiplayer is a double edged sword, but thats a topic for another thread.
