I would suggest that there is a perfectly acceptable middle ground for SoaSE somewhere between 'every single RTS AI is retarded' and an 'RTS AI that can beat good players'.
TFL BigBANGtheory
FACT: every single RTS AI is retarded.
IN FACT: That is simply not true, Relic's 'Company of Heroes' AI even at normal difficulty is a real challenge in skirmish maps until you have practiced and learnt how to beat it. It will take you a reasonable ammount of time and gameplay experience before you can beat the CoH Expert AI.
SoaSE runs fine on my Vista x64, I know thats not what you asked but it should be of interest to you as a good sign.
I hope its done my SoaSE T-Shirt is getting a bit thread bare now.... Suffice to say I can only advertise the game whilst walking the dog these days :HOT:
The final graphics are a step above what's in Beta 4 when you crank all the settings.
Yarlen dude you just finished off a perfect day with that statement :CONGRAT:
You won't be playing Crysis anytime soon but your new PC should run SoaSE fine, so get stuck in m8
oh yeah ;) I got the wrong link use the one xthetenth has posted for textures.
You can open/edit the SoaSE textures with the Nvidia plugin for Photoshop, I think you will find the exact size depends upon the mesh being used.
Hello Chikens and welcome to SoaSE.
Maybe Starcraft II 'sponsered' the poll?

The X3 lads have released a new video demonstrating some area's of progress on their B5 mod. Its good, really good. [link="http://b5.hc-gamer.de/index.php?mod=files&action=listcat&where=12"]WWW Link[/link] SoaSE should be able to handle epic battles better than X3 purely on game design & UI, but X3 will provide a better simulation of a B5 universe, offer missions and far more depth all round.
time dilation would appear like 'bullet time' is space combat
Can someone please explain how the emitters work and what their purpose is? btw as a long shot I tried a 115,000 poly model today which produced a 29MB .mesh, SoaSE minidumped on the level load not that I was expecting it to work. I'll knock it back to 20,000 polygons which seems to be the sweet spot so far and try again. I'm having to learn UVW mapping/texturing from scratch so progress is sloooow atm worth the effort though as u can't do squat without it. Its funny been playi
You'll need to wait and see, modding at this stage is pure experimentation.
its a very sad and cold place to be; at the top, looking down.
woman on top position eh? you crafty butcher you :p

TF2 is very good, Dustbowl 32 player is an all time great. So I voted for TF2 thanks for the link. I got a copy of Crysis for Christmas and if they get around to sorting the performance and bugs out that is one amazing game on a good system.
Thats a bit of a result, and good PR too. Can I suggest an unofficial idiots guide to running SoaSE on Wine would be a cool thing for all concerned?
The whole micro arguement whilst perfectly true is beside the point, the point is it looks a bit flat, lifeless and unrealistic when ships behave that way, just like the 2D square groupings/formations. Its a weakness and it could be better, I'll leave it at that.
I found quite a good screen grab of a Minbari battlegroup today, it shows a fair ammount of detailed features and textures on the Sharlin War Cruiser which will come in handy for the graphical uplift on the Sharlin I have in game. Not an in game SoaSE screenshot this time (:( [link="http://archive.firstones.com/tp2b/minbari_federation/nial_fire.jpg"]WWW Link[/link]
You know there was something thats been niggling me for ages and not put my fnger on, and thats it. However you want to sell it ships do just pause in space and casually accept incoming fire. It gives the combat scenarios a very false & static feel like a turn based game.
how about a sextant ?
wot no pics ? :d
Its still there I bet, you just have to play a full 365 day game to see the planets move around the stars.
