I realised I never responded to my August post to say if I ever go any of the civilian achievements, so thanks for resurrecting this post. I tried once more, again trying to obtain the Advent civilian research. Once again, it did not work, despite only doing the civilian research, without touching the military and diplomacy research trees. Some interesting points about why the achievements may not work all the time, so will have another go turning Capital victory on in one att

To answer some of the question in my failed attempt at getting the harmony only achievement: I was logged into Steam, as other achievements were registering as and when I got them in the same game When I researched the last part I then paused the game and went through each research to make sure I had not missed any part. Each research showed the grey tab in the bottom right and I also went into each to check I had not missed one part of say 3 stages. They were all completed.</
Didn't touch diplomacy, only researched harmony. When the last one was researched I double and triple checked all had been researched.
Decided to complete the achievements, which I have previously done for the vanilla and Diplomacy versions Having searched the forums I see there has been some bugs for some of the achievements. Is this still the case for some of the research achievements? Playing Advent, I completed the hostility research only achievement, but in my next game the harmony achievement did not trigger when I completed the research tree. Whilst doing the harmony research, I also did the Capital sh

This is by far the best game I have played, though don't play now due to RL commitments. For those thinking about joining, here is a brief chronological list of what I did: My first character: Created as an Industrialist and Miner. Joined a small corp ( 6 players) and mined and did low level missions. This became boring so started trading and buying shares in other player controlled companies Lost 300 million isk in an investment scam alo
Went to buy XCOM last night and was told it is not available in my territory. I am from the UK so the translation excuse is a load of rubbish. This is not good for impulse. Oh, and was also going to buy Europa Universalis III - but not at the price Impulse is quoting. Gamersgate have it at £15.00. I do not want to have multiple download portals for my games, then again I do not like being ripped off either.
It looks like the 4X/RTS playing public on this forum are not big sports fans. I just have to nominate the one game that ate up more hours and created many scenarios in my head and that is Championship Manager 2001/02 - no other sports manager game as got close since. Don't think it will get many if any votes here though.
Well, there aren't many strategy games for the era as you know. Close to it, but not set in the dark ages, is http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DD-PDX02/knights-of-honor It's a good game. I don't remember exactly when it is set, but Feudal Lords was good, but we are talking about 1990 game now. If you don't want to go to fantasy settings, I can't think of any Dark Ages games. [/q
No Fallout 3? Gotta be added.
Try Crusader Kings (Also Paradox) - it has one or two expansions as well. Good stuff, though the largest resolution is tiny. http://www.gamersgate.com/DDB-CKDV/crusader-kings-complete-bundle
Sounds interesting but still in the medieval era - it looks like it starts at Wililam the Conqueror. I'm looking more for the period when the Romans left Briton in the 5th Century an
Yeah, Paradox is really great with their games and the support and even how they sell them. I haven't played a game of theirs yet that I didn't find great to play, apart from Hearts of Iron series which for me is an overkill. There are seriously too many games, so I could give more suggestions if you asked for a specific type of game and theme.
After all the comments and my own rea
I think the 3rd expansion pack will come out on Dec 15, so you will be better off waiting until then to get your hands on the really complete version of EUIII. Unless you get a hefty discount on EU3 complete right now. Or you don't care!
Talking of discount, I noticed Impulse is the most expensive at £25.99 of the three downloadable sites - the other two being steam and matrix. Come on Impulse every £1 counts for me and I would rather download
Dominions III is definitely worth checking out. I haven't bought the full game yet, but I have played the demo quite a bit and have a friend who has played Dom III for literally years (and GalCiv II, and TW, and I think even EUIII, but Dom III) is definitely his fav. check it out here: http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Illwinter/DOM3/DOM3_page.html (PS: don't let the graphics fool you, this is a DEEP game)
</
Quoting Baron Zinq, reply 7 I don't mind the learning curve or the time it takes to understand if I know it will be worth it. If it is one of those games where I can run through the tactics or get my head round why x works with y when I am sitting on the toilet (come on who doesn't do that ) then it maybe the one for me. Then I definitely suggest that you get EUIII complete - you won't be disappointed IMO. Play only the late
Then it must be for me then [e digicons]:S[/e] Having slept on this momentous decision I will be definately be downloading EU III, but I will also buy space Armada 2526 in the new year. That should keep me quiet fo 2010.
Quoting Baron Zinq, reply 3 EUIII is a very good grand strategy game. IMO, it is more like a sim. And yes, it does have an active community. But I must warn you - it is not for everyone. It is tough, it has lots of details in which you have to delve to understand properly, it has pages upon pages of spread-sheets, it is VERY time consuming. If you can manage all that, and still find it to be fun, it is one of the most addictive ga
AI War will be a bit more of a lurning curve than EU3, though not by much. EU3 allows for a lot of different stuff- also AI wars is best in multi imo.
Ah that might sway me against the game if it is geared more to the multiplayer community.
But do the balance issues i'm hearing hurt the game too much? I know it's a new game and the future patches will sort it out, that is why I was wondering if it's worth waiting a few weeks.
Guys, Some interesting games there and thanks for your thoughts. I played the original TW and TWII - I wasn't that fussed with the TBS part of the game and sucked at the tactics of the combat. I heard Empire TW was a bit of a let down compared to the others. The problem is there are too many good strategy games atm, and I hate not giving a good game a proper go. So I want to spend my time on the one I choose. Must admit I am swaying to EU III due
Hi, I'm a guy in his forties who harks back to playing Elite on the BBC B machine. What a game. I only play single player (I know I am missing out), as I do not like being rushed, and also do not have all the spare time to know every ins and outs of a game. I love SoaSE but am now looking for a new stategy game that is more tunr based with some RTS. I own GalCiv II and Civ IV and enjoyed both of these games, but was never uber at them. I have been looking at:</
Been waiting for Impulse to get their act together and finally add it to their downloads. Maybe it has been a blessing in disguise and best waiting until a few patches come out. For those who have the game is it worth paying £25 now or waiting?
There should be a time limit to this thread........like right now!
Just played my first game using version 1.03 and really enjoyed it. This also included playing with a friendly AI for the first time. It was so endearing seeing his fleet fly in to help in the fights. But why did the AI fight to the last alien? Where was the surrender? Can someone clearly explain the terms when a surrender event kicks in as my AI friend and I had to obliterate everything in our path. What a perfect hollywood ending though. Th enemy were trapped on a
Now for my serious response. I'm sure this will be looked at and am pretty sure the logistic costs of ships will be tweaked somewhat, along with their weaponry/tanking so that it makes sense to fight with some sort of mixed fleets. It will never get rid of the spams but may lessen it somewhat. The fleet logistics costs is a great idea and maybe could be even more severe. It would also be cool if we could have options in the future to limit the number of certa
