FYI, it's not clearly noted in the patch notes, but I do believe the particle effects disappearing bug is fixed in 1.04 as well
As far as I could tell Annatar it is. I played for a full hour with Vasari and I noticed all effects functioning as they should during that time (normally they would've disappeared after half an hour). :)

Thanks for the patch Stardock and Ironclad! Its working great. Seems like the patch finally fixed the particle bug, now I can play as Vasari without having the effects disappear on me after 30mins of play. :D
-Fix num particles in the user.setting file not actually increasing and added user control over the number of particle simulations since this is another main limiter for those with uber computers who want to push things.
What does this mean exactly? Ability to display more effects on-screen at any one time? Also, are we still getting the hi-res textures or was that a 1.1 thing? :)
That's what I did: before the demo was out, I downloaded Sins, played a game and since I enjoyed it, I bought the game.
Thanks for helping the pirates *sigh*
If you really think you earnt the achievement and want to display it, its as easy as going into C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\ , opening the achievements file with notepad and change your deserved achievement from FALSE to TRUE. :P
Fair enough if you want it as an option. I was glad when they changed it to what it is now - its more logical (and better for the game overall - particularly online) when you are able to research in the two seperate trees at the same time. You still have to pay the costs, its just you get the technology quicker which helps speed the game along.
I have a command card (I ordered the game online, but also got sent the retail box) with mine that came in the retail box. I would scan it for you but my printer with the built-in scanner just doesn't want to work lately.
The minidumps are Nvidia's fault anyway, and they occur over quite a few other games rather just Sins. Hence why I use ATI cards, because their driver releases aren't a steaming pile of rubbish, and I don't have to muck around with beta releases to get my card to just work in the first place.
PaladinSmith you must realise that today's multiplayer systems (particularly with strategy games) are peer-to-peer based. These sorts of systems bring a whole host of advantages over old server-based systems. Its just up to some users to make sure their connections are properly configured (which is important to learn anyway for any real serious internet business you participate in).
This is exciting news indeed. I look forward to seeing what the 3 companies can achieve together.
Buy it online, seriously. You get to play the game 2 hours after purchase (depending on your download speed), and you get the box and everything else in a few weeks after that. I've had the game since it was initially released anywhere, why bother waiting for the retail release when you have to wait longer and pay more just to get the game?
My my Brad this is an interesting thought. From my personal experiences, if one was to do this you'd have to be aware of the following things: 1. Content releases would have to be meaningful and significant. Too many times in the past have I seen a similar attempt in this area but the "new" content was so insignificant that most people just ignored its existence. I am thinking in regards to the Battlefield 2 booster packs here (I was an avid player back in the day and ha
How about the release of Impulse? According to when Brad was talking about it on the GFW podcast it sounded like it was just around the corner. ;)
Well that was good. Really agreed what Brad was saying about PC piracy and the other topics they talked about. I look forward to Impulse Brad. :)
I remember it being mentioned by someone at Ironclad that one of their goals to do in the future was a better particle effect system. I hope this is realised soon with an expansion, would be great to see Sins battles with more modern effects. ;)
Uranium, as far as I'm concerned you have half a post there mate. You've done enough crapping on Ironclad, now where's the feedback as to how to improve the game rather than labelling everything as shit?

When you purchase a game, you're not only being granted with the ability to play the game (and in Sins case the ability to play using ICO) but also getting post-release support that comes with it (hopefully). Considering that we'll be getting almost the 4th patch soon so soon after release indicates that Sins is very good value for money compared to some other titles. ;)
I look forward to where Sins goes as a franchise, its a very solid game! :D
I strongly agree with this. I actually only bought Gal Civ II after reading all the interesting dev diaries posted up by Brad. :) Lets hope they revive it!
I was hoping to see the particle disappearance bug be fixed. :( Ah well, bring on 1.1 then.
I think it was smart of Ironclad and Stardock to delay the demo until they nailed the big bugs found after release. Good thinking there. ;) Here's to a successful patch 1.04 and 1.1 release soon!
Wow this is a discovery. It would explain why it only really effects Vasari, and why it seems to happen a little while into the game (about the same time I start using the missile frigates).
TBH I think its unreasonable to expect to see any spectacular visuals with a GeForce 4. You should seriously consider an upgrade if you want to experience this game the way it was intended. I know that Ironclad and Stardock do their best to make sure it runs on a variety of hardware, but there is only so far you can go before you start creating a dated looking game.
I agree with what you have said Neph. Would be interesting to see what Sins was like with powerful captial ships.
