Well... SInce it only occurs when unpaused, I wouldn't be suprised if it was a problem with your CPU. AI, especially on higher difficulty settings, can be quite the CPU hog. I assume you have Impulse, since you have entrenchment, so I would suggest first trying to reinstall the game. If the problem persists, try running some benchmarking tests to make sure your computer is working properly (specifically make sure the CPU is working as well as it should be). Also, [grammar nazi] this i

How fast is your internet? I ask this because the simplist fix would probably be reinstallation via impulse. If you have something around 1mb it should only take 15 mins tops to reinstall sins and entrenchment. Both install and uninstall can be done from within impulse.

16 capship fleet will roflpwn any AI fleet with 0 casualties. That is what I like about capships, they just plain don't die if your half way decent at microing them. And onces they get higher level, they are extremely powerful. I don't like frigates since to me they seem to replaceable. If you have a frigate fleet, you will often take casualties which must be replaced. If you don't have a frig factory nearby this can take upwards of 10 minutes. My personal favorite is the Jarrasul Eva

There are only 2 types of players who play for stats. The first group are pro-gamers who make their living playing in tourneys. The second group are the same crowd who go for 'achievements' in xbox games; they just want their arbitrary pre-defined reward. My advice if you are one of these people: Stop playing. If you are striving for arbitrary achievements just because they are there, you are not enjoying the game for what it is. Always remember, it is just a game; there is no point in playin

Another thing which you cannot easily take into consideration for 'best' qualification is a hidden bonus on having additional strike craft. First of all, say you have a squadron of both vasari and advent, both fighter and bomber, a total of 4 squads. Now, the vasari fighters may kill the advent bombers faster than the advent fighters kill the vasari bombers if they were all immobile and in firing range. BUT, one must also take into account that the vasari fighters, after killing their first t

I find the price of starbases to be just about right. Low enough that they see use in every game, but high enough that it really hurts if one gets destroyed. One thing I have noticed with my current Vasari strategy against the AI (move in fleet to distact, and build a starbase in the enemy well while they are distracted) is that I use much smaller fleets than before. If nothing else, the starbases give me enough peace of mind that my planets will be defended that I don't turtle until I have m
The only suggestion I could make would be to have the TEC/Advent Starbases act more like structures and less like the Vasari Starbase/Ship.
I would guess they are contained in the same general 'Starbase' class in the coding, but with a movement speed set to 0... But just remember, it isn't sideways. There is no up or down in space, so while it is not oriented with the game's arbitrarily decided 'up' plane, it isn't really sideways. Tec

After loading the savegame, the game had another minidump. This one also occured when I tried building a starbase, just as it went from migrator to star base under construction. The starbase was not under attack at the time, so that causing it is ruled out. Perhaps some sort of limit on starbases which if exceeded causes a crash? Going to try again under various conditions. Edit: After loading the savegame again, it seems to be able to build starbases just fine if no enemies are in th

After playing for around 3 hours today (SoaSE scares me in how it eats time...) I noticed a few bugs. I was playing as Vasari. The first thing I noticed was the commonly reported one at least 2 separate occasions, star bases started attacking while they were still under contruction. These both occured when building them around my planets, and building them at a time such that I would lose the planet before they completed building. This bug saved one of the two planets it occured on. The

As far as Vasari families... The Vasari Empire consisted of many different races, and thus would have some very different cultures depending on where in the empire you were. Heck, just look at all the different cultural stuff on Earth, and we are only 1 planet. Their empire consisted of 1/4 of the galaxy... TEC society was likely very capitalistic, since it was based on trading. Again, it would vary from planet to planet. The planets would likely be very different, since according to

I find pirates annoying early game, but they are very useful midgame. This is because you can use them to level up your capital ships. That said, I usually play with pirates turned off since it feels to random to me. 1-1.5 hours is usual for small maps. The 'Huge' maps have taken me 20+ hours to play. The thing about Sins is, it is meant to take a long time. Much of this time (especially when Entrenchment is out) will be spent watching glorious fleet battles... *tears brought

If that were the case I would assume pushing the button would turn it off, since it is just a UI thing. To save file space it would only save (I would assume) an on/off for cinematic mode, and figure out the rest based on that. This would leave no reason for why it would be stuck on. Not to mention, this would be much more widespread of an occurance if it was just the result of saving with cinematic mode on. Now that I think about it, it likely would not even save on/off, and just ass

I saved a game I was playing in the beta, when I loaded it up a few hours later, it was stuck in what was essentially cinematic mode. The cinematic mode button would switch like normal, but the game itself was stuck in cinematic view.

First off... Since when have you helped out the ally AI when he asked for help? :) I for one don't. So why would they come to your aid? IMO, miens wouldn't be bad the way they are if not for the silly 'phased out' invulnerable thing and the bug which goes with it (rapidly switching between in and out). As far as the pirates go, was there a pirate base planet in the system you were in? If not, they will have nowhere to attack from, ect, and thus will not even exist.

Ya, i also noticed this problem while playing today (first day)... Really quite annoying. The only way I found is to find a squadron, and repeatedly right click on the mine with the squadron selected, and eventually you will have killed the mine... 1 down, an average of about 30 to go...

Well, it used to be they were able to send about 20 of them in and be able to take out a planet, or at least all it's civilians, and retreat before they could be destroyed. It would take a medium sized fleet devoted to defending each planet from such AI seige rushes.

Hehe... ya... Infinity... I wish I could play that :( but since it is being coded ENTIRELY by one man, it probably won't be out til at least 2010. Looks like it will be one of the best if not the best space MMO of all time. Check out his dev journals though for a peak at the game... The visuals are spectacular. The game is to scale (as in planets are thousands of KMs in diameter), and you can actually fly around and land on planets (<a href="http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity

I wouldnt mind having one that dispensed pie to me through the screen... :D I would find a ship able to decrease build times for planet upgrades/orbitals nearby to be useful... Another interesting one would be many small vessels, which would be able to attach to one another like modules, creating one large superstructure. Together, they could form a huge supership, but if it got itself into trouble, the modules could detach, minimizing losses as many of the modules would escap

My least favorite experience with DRM was Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts When I got it, it forced me to download all the patches to play. One of those patches requires you to loggon to their server or whatnot to play, requiring another hour to figure out what site I had to go to to register for that (this was after registering CD key). In the registering process, it required me to put in CD key again... After 3 hours of installs, patches, and drowning in DRM, I finally got to play
