After getting raped on star trek legacy this game is praticaly a godsend
Your right there. Anyone complaining about lack of content should look at that one, but some of the mods have made it a little better. In Australia they published it without any copy protection, which was a good guess because no one would bother to pirate that one I would presume. And to think I pre-ordered with the manual as well. Oh well it is a nice book to look at. Che

Looks very good, hope I can get it to work when it is released. When I try to load mods I nearly always get a mini dump. cheers MarkL

This is my first real attempt at a real time game and agree with Retro above. Using pause is a must for beginners to learn the ropes. Also the games scalability to start out with locked teams and pirates off makes it very easy to learn. As you progress you add more features learn them to turn on another one. If you start out paying with locked teams, pirates off and set your opponents to easy aggression and use the pause you will be ok. Of course try the demo. <b

The article was very good regarding the future for stardock. One thing I do not think is right is the claim of "No Ptotection" Now I am not complaining as I am a customer but I do not kid myself that activation and accounts to get patches are not copy protection. In some ways worse that disk based depends on how you look at it. If you have a disk you can play it as long as the disk lasts and always be able to reinstall it. With activation and accounts you can only reinstall at
I too have seen it go both ways, with one resource being more scarce than others. There are good ways to get around this issue:1. Play TEC and research all the crystal-production techs. Build refineries.2. Upgrade civ infrastructure on your planets and use trade stations to build credit income and refineries to boost resource harvesting. Also sell off excess metal. Then purchase crystal to make up for insufficient supply.3. Colonize more, especially crystal-producing planets.4. Deal with

I must admit I am a single player as well, but I think the home planets should be (Correction, I would like them to be) stronger as your last line of defense. I can see the point regarding defense platforms being too strong if they covered the whole gravity well. Maybe just give a little extra like theRetroboy's suggestion "+2 or +3 armor, representing the higher concentration on certain materials" which seems a good compromise. Any other ideas for a slightly more robust home p

I do not know how others feel but I would like to see better planetary defenses for your home planet. Could it be programmed so that your home planet can have orbital turrets that can reach the whole gravity well? I think home planets should have special orbital structures that actualls work. This could also be an issue when changing your home planet. There could be a big delay in moving the home planet due to having to move the special defenses and possibly other home planet specific

I am playing a game at present where I tried to take a planet that I had to bypass a worm hole to get too. The AI took out my capital ship when huge swarm came through. I got spamed by a big fleet of small ships and one capital ship. My Koll and a few kodiaks could not handle the big numbers. I will be back with a similar fleet but with a lot of LRM's to combat the numbers. I think the worm hole area big problem, but add to the depth of the game. One thing I would lik
Well after playing about 10 games, I've come to realize that there are some pretty big flaws in the game.1. Its too slow, and takes way too long to finish a game, and I've only played on small random. ... Sigh...
To respond to the bit about being too slow. I wish it were slower, for me the time seems to be modeled on what online players want. Now I know this is not correct. Some say to slow, some say to fast. So they must have it just about ri
Fix your system. The game is great: hours and hours of gaming here, 0 crashes.
I do not think that is really fair. When playing I have not had any crashed except when I try to use mods. There seem to be some real issues that need solving that seem to be only effecting a few players in different ways. If you can not play at all send your mini dump to support and they may be able to help, but I gather it is a bit slow. But at least they do respond which is
The manual is a good size but the game has lots of details that it doesnt mention. Like scouts on autoexplore? That and myriad other commands are never mentioned. Its like the game publisher expects the player to learn through trial and error. Why do publishers create great games and add incomplete manuals?? To keep costs down? But this is at a cost to the player, imo. In the late 1980's I got games like Harpoon which were just as complex and detailed but it came with a _thorough_manual.
These threads are getting old. Use search option, there are 50 threads about this.
I did but did not find anything. I know it must have been a bad search on my part. I must admit I only normally look at the first page of quotes as changing the pages on my PC takes forever even with ADSL. I find this site forum very slow all the time. Some days I can not even get into the site at all. So searching this site is not all that easy. For commonly asked questions, possi

Thanks for the tip. I am playing TEC. The icon did not show up on my colonizer Capital ship so I build a standard colonizer and it showed up ok. The icon space to the right of my capital ship colonizer was blank. I will check to see if it has the required antimatter. There is another small field to check this out on, but it will have to wait as it is through a Pirate lair. Cheers MarkL

One of the biggest things for me to get to grips with is the tech trees and planetary developments. Now I am getting the hang of them the games are getting much smoother and I am starting to know what to do and hence what is going on. From my experience of never playing a game with tech trees before this was and still is a hurdle. I won't be happy till I have mastered them. I think one of the best things stardock could do for the beginner is to provide a encyclopedia listing all the shi

How do you captue asteriods with extractors that seem to not be owned. When I hover the mouse over them I get the message "Invunerable, can be captured" but I can not work out how. I do not seem to be able to target them or something. I know I must be missing something easy but can not see it. I have just progressd from small to medium maps and this is the first time they have come up for me. I am finally winning some games now and slowly upiing the map sizes then difficulty levely
One simple way to fix this is for the Tutorials to improve to include more strategy and tactics. They explain how to use the UI to do stuff, but not really why you need to do certain things. The game model is fairly complicated for RTS noobs. This is great for hardcore gamers or people with infinite time to learn it all the hard way, but is bad for the beginners. And most [with this forum the exception] of the online help is spread sheets which smells a lot like work and less like fun - un

Thanks for the replies. I am fairly new to this type of game so I will probably find it a little hard, especially now after reading some of the reviews. I am still finding Sins hard for me. I am used to playing BattleFronts Combat Mission Series. I wanted something new and are trying space based games. I went out and purchased a copy. For $10.00 I thought I could not go wrong anyway. I will have to find that bonus pack mentioned above. From reading about those scripts in ot

Your general concept is good.I would like to see far more options for map generation. I would like to see shapes like in SOTS. But I would also like to see the game developed for long term play as well. There is a trend these days to taylor games for the short period of online play. I would like to see an option for a slower playing version so that strategy other than combat was an issue. For me the game at present seems to be timed around short online matches. But a you rightl

Our local game shop has copies of X2 The Threat now for $10.00 Is it worth getting? After reading the reviews it sounds very hard to play, and seem sto hav a mixed recption. Some love it and some hate it. Just like Sins I suppose. I gather it does not have a quick battle generator or sand box environment like sins, is this correct. Is the campaign scripted or dynamic? Just wondering about replayability. For the price that is not an issue, but if there is a long learning cur
I'm very serious. Sorry, but I just don't have a damned clue of what's going on about 90% of the time. Guess I'm just dumb.
I agree with you. This is my first of this type of game. Most of the people on the forum I would say are old times at this type of game. There should have been some sort of small may walkthrough scenario. I also find the pace of game play fast. The game play example in the forum does not provide anything for the newbie. I found

I would not be interested in a regular fee based subscription, but possibly will pay for extra content if the activation method is changed. To expand on that a bit, I am a lover of old games. I still have Win95 on an old PC for some titles. Now these titles I can just install and play no problems. With titles from StarDock we have to activate to be able to use patches so there is no garantee of future possible use. Imagine in ten years time trying to activate Hearts Of Iron, or one of y
From post #2 : [Stardock CEO Brad] Wardell was a bit less enthused [in the IGN interview concerning the Sins expansion]. "I never play campaigns; they're just such a checkbox feature." I agree 100% with "Frogboy".I never, ever, play campaigns. I don't enjoy being instructed to « do this, do that, better do it the right way or else you'll have to restart » ... and being tediously annoyed by pre-scripted comps with armies of unfair sizes.
Same here, hardly ever play campaig

I would like different victory conditions, but as for a campaign I do not really care. I hate it when I buy a game get to one spot I can not beat and if there are no cheats I have wasted my money as I may never see the end. My vote would be to enhance the sandbox, for max replayability. Cheers MarkL

Yes there really needs to be a small set map that can be used with a written tutorial taking you through the basics of the game. I think most game developers have forgotten what it is to be new to a game type. Mind you try learning "Pacific Storm" from the supplied tutorial and manual. Makes this a piece of cake. Or add a few replays of small systems with some narration on how it is done. This I think would be great for beginners. Cheers MarkL
