I tried it and found it to be a stripped down version of Bad Company 2 (you can read my full opinion here ). If you're really into the real world setting, I suppose you might like it. But other than that one reason, you're just better off going with BC2 which offers more for less.
The answer to your second question is that you were probably attacking a Vasari planet where the enemy had hanger bays in the gravity well. If you look at the Vasari "Fortification" tech tree you will see a Level 4 ability called "Phasic Trap". It's something that can be researched and put on a hanger.
Okay, I suspected something like that. Thanks f
I have a question about pacts. In my current game, my AI ally keeps offering me two pacts (one for minerals and one for phase jumps, IIRC), but every time I go into that screen and accept the offered hand, the AI then rejects the pact. Why would it offer it in the first place? Not only that, as soon as it rejects my acceptance, it then offers the pact again. WTH?!? What am I missing here? [e digicons]:maybe:[/e] On an unrelat
Nicely done! That was one huge battle! [e digicons]B)[/e]
Good work on the vids! Sins needs more vids to compete with those EvE folks. It will include 100s of real military missions radio chatter sound bytes. I have been collecting and editing these for some time and maybe now have enough to complete all the frigates, cruisers and strike craft (my favorites). Preview here.<
There is a relatively, healthy discussion about the game here. I have decided to wait until more of the single player aspects are implemented. With games of this type that have online play, I always fall in the category of "People who get pounded by those who have more time to perfect strategies".
That is always a concern. For me, as a rabid chess player, I've developed a pretty thick skin as that is the stock and t
The intel one is great!
Pretty cool. What is that based on? Your campaign?
This is an absolutely fascinating discussion! The Elemental community deserves a big pat on the back. I'm not (yet!) a beta participant, so I will keep my comment short: I just want to say that I believe the family dynamics in Elemental will prove pivotal. While a lot of medieval games touch upon dynastic succession, few delve into it much beyond a very superficial level (I think Crusader Kings in the only one to really get into it, and that game is get
Merry Christmas! Looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow, consisting of some eggnog and lots of gaming! [e digicons]:D[/e] Hmm...lets see: Sins, Silent Hunter 4 and lots of Chess!
That's okay, EvE doesn't look that good either. [e digicons]^_^[/e]
Did anybody catch the official trailer for EvE Online's Dominions? You can see it here. Two things struck me about this movie: 1) CCP sure knows how to make a good trailer! I wish Hollywood would take a crack at an EvE movie. But then again, I just know that it would be 90 minutes of watching Shia Labeouf stumble around on a planet that looks suspiciously like southern California (ever notice how every modern sc-fi film is strang
I just play. When I feel something significant happens, I take a screenshot. When I am done playing, I start to write and let the narrative flow, popping in the pictures as I go (most of the screenies never get used). That's pretty much it.

GalCiv is showing its age and but for it's excellent planetary development model, would be completely forgettable. If anything, this game r
It is a hard habit to break. I still catch myself slipping from time to time. Heck, even a lot of naval historians make that mistake!
Great story, C.I.! Finally, someone else who isn't afraid to combine some screenshots with some narration! If you implement most the expansion ideas that have been expressed over the years, you would wind up with a game that is quite different from Sins. Sins works as a beer & pretzels strategy game; that is, a game with just enough depth to make the tactics and strategy interesting but not overwhelming. Most of the expansion ideas would blow that elegance out of the water and wind up turning Sins into something closer to EvE Online or X3, a sci-fi game that is far deeper and requires fa

I'm planning on making my own little AAR, inspired by yours
What you have to do is first upload your shots to a picture hosting site, such as Photobucket or Webshots. Once uploaded, copy the direct link URL and paste it into the window that pops up when you hit the little tree button (picture insert) up top.
I did an interview with Bob Smith, the guy behind Armada 2526. You can read it here .
Wow! Some nice shots in this thread. It never ceases to amaze me how much graphical glitz IC managed to incorporate into their game without demanding every PC gamer upgrade their rigs. If only more game companies would follow IC/Stardocks lead.....
That is an interesting idea but I think it would ruin the whole bidding war mechanic. I mean, after spending all that money to outbid a foe who wants the pirates to attack me, it would really be annoying to have my foe cancel the attack on him by a second round of one-party negotiations. Why even bid at all? I just think it would make hiring pirates all too uncertain to be worth the money.
For Sins 2, the whole planetary system needs to be looked at. I want to see planets become more interesting in general, not just in terms of defense, but in development, too. A seperate tech tree of planetary development would be a good place to start. It could include habitation, defense, even political techs to research. And while they're at it, add some sort of ground war invasion option, too. It's such a big list of possible changes that it needs another majo
It is completely worth it. Completely! If you want to see a little about Entrenchment, you can check out my illustrated AAR here .
This is a great idea! It would definitely add to the immersion! I tell ya, with all the great ideas that have been posted for this game over the last year and a half, Sins 2 is going to rock! [e digicons][/e]
