IIRC, Telepathic Signalling is the actual name of one of the Supply Upgrades. Go to the third tab and mouse over them to see their names. Fleet Capacity and Capship crews both only allow you to upgrade one tier at a time - you cannot skip tiers, so probably you had enough resources to buy, say, Tier 4, so it LOOKED like you could buy it, but you hadn't purchased Tier 3 yet. There is lots of ingame help but Sins is such a broad game that you'd require a whole encyclopedia in the engine

You might wish to read a couple pages of the forum to see if someone else already asked. There's lots of times this question has been answered. Basically, no campaign. Large maps can be long enough to play to basically *be* a campaign. One is planned for the up-and-coming expansion, but that's a long way out. -- Retro

Bailknight, just out of curiosity, what do the capships look like if you, say, double the lifespan of the blue sparks so their radius at the end of their travel increases? That would add considerable "volume" to the explosion, but might overpower the map too. It's hard to tell from the small video if that would make it too large. I'm really looking forward to this. One of my favourite visuals is watching an enemy capital ship die. -- Retro

You'll really have to play each to see it in detail, but basically: - TEC are driven by economy so your best strategy is to get trade stations up and working quickly and outpace the fundraising and fleet creation speed of the other two races. - Vasari are nimble, based on mobility and speed more than the other races. Their later buildings and abilities allow them to move around much faster than the other races, as long as you survive that long. Vasari specialize in harvesting resources

mehoo, my thoughts are that either that was a fluke statistic or you were optimizing your own play and the general rule of "attack the strongest" worked out against your favour. Consider: In a 1v1v1v1 map, there is a 1/3 * 1/3 * 1/3 (or one in twenty-seven) chance, ALL ELSE BEING EVEN, that you become the target of everyone's attentions. This considerably escalates if you're playing perfectly and have a lead on everyone else, or if you have the largest territory because you may have exp

I'm guessing you mean "solar system" or "star" (a galaxy has millions of stars). You need to research the "long jump" equivalent for whatever race you're playing. Advent: Distant Visualization TEC: Long Range Jumps Vasari: I forget, but poke around in the research trees to find it. Then you can right-click a different star. Your selected ships will go to your closest star and then hyperspace to the target star. -- Retro

Okay, so it sounds like you're playing against three or more AI's. Here's the absolute essential question you haven't answered: DO YOU FULFILL AI MISSIONS TO GAIN ALLIES? If not, I would *entirely expect* you to get stomped. Complaining that you're losing a 1v1v1v1 game without engaging in any diplomacy at all is like complaining that you're losing without ever building a crystal-harvesting asteroid. In multiple-AI games, Diplomacy and allegiances are essential unless you're really exp

You can't win bounty that you place on other races yourself. You AUTOMATICALLY win any other bounty that any other player placed on any other player when you kill their ships. Bounty is awarded based on the strength of the target. To see if there is bounty that you will win if you destroy that other-party ship, mouse over it and see if it says "Bounty value" in the info panel. Pirates never pay bounty. 2) If you kill all the pirates that attack you in one of their raids, the only "rewar

Well, you have to be careful because they might not be as "pure" as they look if you think about of their psychic abilities. Imagine the breeding programs they must use in order to produce a more genetically superior child. With no men, their genetic lottery is completely rigged. Do they cull children that don't advance their psionic abilities somehow? Are you raised in a society where every moment of your regulated life goes toward the good of your race, and any sort of individuality i

NoobieGirl, there's two "usual" explanations I can think of. The first explains why ships amble off on their own in gravity wells, and the second explains why they go to other gravity wells inexplicably. 1) You issue your fleet elements some orders. They accomplish those orders, and then the AI takes over for them. An example is when you tell your capital ship to go do something in an enemy gravwell, and then an enemy scout enters that gravwell. Scouts are a high priority target (and TO

Sorry, I didn't quite get that. I'm guessing that you're saying I'm lucky because the game appeals to me, but it also appeals to a great many other people too, so I don't consider myself that lucky. -- Retro

GoJoe has nailed it. Essentially, "the victor gets to write the history books". That's nicely reflected in the fictional background. Remember that to take over a planet, the TEC NUKE THE BEJEEBUS OUT OF IT. They're not exactly nice either. -- Retro

Actually space in Sins doesn't look perfect at all. On the non-nebular background, space has entirely too much ambient light. Unless vessels are very close to the sunny side of large bodies in gravity wells, they would be almost completely black on one side and light on the other. Since there's no close-by moons to reflect light and no atmosphere to scatter it, asteroid night-day terminators would appear crisp. And the nebular backgrounds are WAY too bright - in "real space" they'd only show tha

Agreed. This one has been mentioned a few times, but generally been buried in the middle of other threads, so it would be hard to find. It's doubly imba because you can have three of 'em in an asteroid field and they don't suffer an allegiance penalty. In a recent random10hardFFA, I had some refineries up next to some otherwise empty gravwellsand was pulling in enormous amounts of metal, completely dominating the black market. -- Retro

No, there's no story mode, just like there isn't for Civilization and a number of other 4x games. It was either include a story or include a lot more testing, balancing and polish. IronClad went with the latter. A campaign is slated for inclusion in patch 1.1, which is in the works but will likely be a while yet. -- Retro

P.S. Guys, there's a difference between disagreeing with someone while pointing out flaws in their arguments, and being insulting and engaging in childish name-calling. Can we please avoid the latter? Thanks, -- Retro
Despite the fact that they were not allied at game start, it felt like they were, since all 3 empires sent wave after wave of fleets to my star to conquer me instead of going after each other. I'd gone for a very early Returning Armada and 2-3 phase portals per planet,...
Just a note that the first sentence explains the second - Hard AI is autoset to prefer to attack the leading player.
So am I to understand that the AI players are busily asking each other for "freebies" in order that they each are "liked" at one extent or another?
Yep (although whether it actually occurs within the game mechanic is questionable). Another way of looking at it is that the game *requires* all players to have at least one enemy at all times (which is why one of your allies will go hostile on you as soon as all the foes are cleaned out). So in a 1v1v1v1, each pla

I'd suggest you look around on the forum for strategies. Key thing to remember is Vasari win at mobility - the phase gates are awesome. As for Returning Armada, it only returns ships to your fleet in bunches at various phase gates you've built, stops at your current level of supply, and has a long cooldown. Try upgrading your fleet supply and keep playing. -- Retro
