well, it seems to me that the enjoyability is redused when space battle looks like picnic fire
And it also seems to me that there's one in every crowd who doesn't like the same thing that just about everyone else does. There are SO MANY things in Sins that aren't realistic that this is an incredibly minor offense if your target is realism. The secret is to recite these four words over and over: "It's just a game". :) Also - one would assume those ships are full of air stor

Thanks, guys. I got those numbers from SOASEWiki, which refers to the first level as "tier 0". Thus, Guardian is 'Tier' 4, but 'Tech' 5. http://www.soasewiki.com/index.php/Hostility_Tree -- Retro
Wait until all three of them swarm you at once to get the answer. :) If you do not ally with an AI by satisfying their demands, the three of them will "like" each other more than they like you, and you'll have all three of them beating on your door. Depending on the map, you'll likely be fighting your battles on at least two fronts, resulting in being overwhelmed. Having at least one AI on your side, particularly if they're next door to you so you're down to fighting on only one
Arid, one correction: 2000 supply <> 2000 ships. Most ships cost at least 5 supply, and caps cost 50. There is a "large fleets" option that you can pick when you start the game, you can select Vasari who have a research upgrade that gives you some extra supply, and you can mod the game. I think that's it. -- Retro
Whatever happened to accountability and getting it right the first time?
It's still around and kicking, for games that take seven years to go from concept to release. I understand Duke Nukem Forever is right up there on the list of games that will never, ever require a hotfix or MP balance patch. -- Retro
DAMMIT WHERE'S THE EDIT FUNCTION! FRIG!
SHOTGUNS VS RIFLES
Use the screwdriver to FIX THE FORUMS. -- Retro
Sorry, I'm reading the first post and I'm not seeing support fleet elements mentioned anywhere. Maybe the other guy had them, but that's not what the OP says. Illums vs LRMs is like screwdrivers vs shotguns vs rifles. You get a hella lot more damage when you can hit two foes at once. -- Retro
...so you should change your name to DisillusionedToddler then? ;) -- Retro
Good analysis, except for one minor omission - illums are tech level 2, and guardian repulsion is tech 4. So it takes a little more investment to activate the defense. Thoughts on an effective counter for TEC and Vasari? -- Retro
The digital download comes with the manual. Check the directory where you installed Sins - I believe manual.pdf is the file name. ...but it doesn't go into detail on AI strategy. Basically, the AI ships attack player ship types that it does the most damage to (e.g. bombers will go after heavy targets, fighters will target enemy bombers), and the AI doesn't use as much focus fire as a human generally does. Generally, you need micro to beat larger fleets. Taking command of your c
SINS HAS A "PAUSE" FEATURE. Click the Pause key at any time in single-player. It freezes the action and allows you to take a massive look around, issue queued orders, and generally play at your own pace. It's awesome if you're into micromanaging your fleet actions and hate losing ships, and I use it all the time. So, yes, this game is right up the alley for 'slow thinkers'. -- Retro
Sorry, should have been "click the metal ASTEROIDS", not 'buildings'. Friggin' unreliable edit forum function... -- Retro
No, it makes perfect sense. Each of his illums can attack multiple ships of yours and they're long range too, and LRM's are eggshells even with upgrades. In this situation, I'd expect illums to win if the defending player doesn't carefully manage his attack. What tactics did you both use? Did he take out your LRM's first? Did he Detonate Antimatter you so your Kol was effectively just a giant frigate? -- Retro
Dunno how to help your mouse problem out, but maybe you could borrow a "standard" mouse from someone you know for a day to see if that helps. Mouse-scrolling is a really important part of how I play the game - might not be for everyone else who uses the preset zoom levels. I was going to type out a guide to getting going in the game, but that would be quite long, so instead, I'm going to recommend that you play the first two tutorials again (I played them three times to really understan
Yes, thanks, Yarlen. I'll be grabbing the beta, if only to be helping you guys out by reporting issues. :) -- Retro
What kinds of capship and other ships were you building and accompanying them with, or were they a one-shiptype-only fleet (which pretty much gets ANYTHING owned except illums)? Were you paying attention to the battles and retreating when you started losing, or did you dump your fleet into a system and let them go to work through AI decisions only? Sins fleets work best when you mix them up. The only reason illums can own is because they're unbalanced. - Retro
It's the sole pirate ship power-up. One class of them (I forget which, but they have an antimatter inventory) has an autocast ability to swipe credits. -- Retro
Yeah, it's probably too late for them now - they're only good when the enemy is attacking your planets, not when you have to take the battle to them. The exception is if they try to break out and/or attack you. -- Retro
On (2) - as long as you have seven or less, you can tell how many you have by going to the research screens and seeing how far the background color has progressed to the right. For example, if you have four military labs, half the military research screen background will be coloured. This doesn't, of course, work for more than eight (because the screen stops at that number), and it doesn't show builds that are in progress (because you might not complete them). -- Retro
It's not 20x more fun in mutli then SP, it's different.
QFT. I *don't* consider Multi to be more fun than Single for several reasons - I like to do puzzles (which, if you think about it, is exactly what Sins RTS is), I like to watch big fleet actions and enjoy the fireworks and you can't do that in MP, and I am in a special situation where the most time that I can guarantee I have available in a row to play Sins is about half an hour. So I have very sound reasons to prefe
It's not gonna happen. This game is 99% made for single player.
The fact is wrong but the sentiment isn't that far off from a population breakdown perspective. Sins is a game that appeals more to the single-player audoence than to the multi-player, even if it wasn't designed specifically to do that. I'd be curious to see the ratio between the number of unique users who honestly tried to play at least an hour or two online versus the total number of Sins
I think you can rationalize the pirate obsession with the fact that trade, refinery, and colony ships don't have any defenses and thus make for very soft targets. That being said, I have a hard time rationalizing pretty much anything else that the pirates in this game do. :) I have a theory that there are no actual living beings on the Pirate fleet, and only one malignant glowy-eyed humanoid is at the heart of their entirely cybernetic empire living a bitter existence and coun
No problem with their voice quality here, particularly when you compare it to the dialogue travesty and voiceover quality of many other space-faring games like Hegemonia or Nexus. To me they sound young but not immature, and not to the point where you'd confuse them with an average female 12-year-old. -- Retro
