Also the beta changes didn't note any Anti-matter cost change at all so still essentially people can replace SC with impunity.
I have yet to test it fully, but it actually (on paper, anyway) looks like a fairly significant nerf, even without the antimatter adjustment you want. That's because the longer it takes to rebuild strikecraft for a carrier, the less significant the amount of antimatter it has in reserve. To prove this to yourself mathematically, jus

Didn't I read somewhere that there was supposed to be a "subspace inhibitor" unit? Second question - does "weapon banks" apply to capships, or just starbases? Thanks.

Put the AIs on unfair, and aggressive. You aren't gong to beat 6 unfair aggressives. Also, if you are playing teams of 3, you are actually pitting most of the AIs against EACH OTHER, not against YOU. Play 6 unfair aggressives AGAINST YOU and see what happens. It doesn't make sense to bitch about the AI being too easy when you are in fact setting it up to be easy.

Hey Agent - interesting thoughts there. As far as your discussion question, that seems to make sense to me. Higher tech units should be a little "OP" compared to lower tech ones. Or, at least they should provide some capability that lower tech ones don't. I can't find anything wrong with this logic, currently. On the poll question, I'll vote on "moratorium to nerfs" until a good deal more thought and play testing has gone into the matter.

After some long thought about the carrier and strikecraft, I have come to the conclusion that perhaps we should leave well enough alone for now. This is why. This assumption *IS* debatable, but for the sake of argument, let's say that carriers are currently "slightly OP" (many would say they aren't, and that's fine). This is why I have concluded that it's actually desirable: It doesn't make good sense to *PERFECTLY* balance a game like Sins which has multiple tech

I will pop on 7pm EST and see if anyone has shown up. I will volunteer to host. My terms for offering this are that I will not be an active participant in the game, I will merely host and observe. Everyone should therefore ally with me (while remaining enemies

Howdidudothat: Your points are fine, and I have no quarrel with you putting your two cents out there at all. However, I have a few retorts: 1. I don't want to be forced to build an anti-strikecraft capital right off the bat to counter strikecraft guaranteed to come my way early game. Why? Because I like to open with a colonizer capital, that's why. Opening with another cap will handicap me, and force me down a particular path I might not want to g

Howdidudothat: 1. You did not commit a logical fallacy, nor an ad hominem attack. An an hominem attack is an "attack against the man." In other words, if I say "carriers are OP" and you say "what do you know - you're just a newb!" then you commited an ad hominem attack (you attacked me personally by calling me a "newb" rather than addressing my point). You did not do this with your challenge. You are saying that carriers are not OP, and you are declaring that y
Hey also Agent, I think the test was a little lopsided, i mean if you think about it in terms of tech. he's using two tier 3 units versus a bunch of tier 0 and tier 1 units.
This was done on purpose. In other words, I was trying to counter expensive, high fleet supply units with cheaper, low fleet supply units. Thus, if successful, it would have been a "harder" counter. Neither is it a "nerf the dominant unit" post. It's simply an "investigation of counters to strikecraft" post. Beyond that, it's mildly an "investigation into balance" post.

A friend and I tested the effectiveness of flak. He chose tec, I chose vasari. I have seen it recommended to build 2 flak per squadron of strikecraft, so we tested 4 vasari sentinals against a tec light carrier (2 squadrons x 2 flak/squadron = 4 flak). No tech upgrades whatsoever on either side (no weapons, no armor). The first test was with fighters. We simply parked our units on opposite sides of the grav well and stuck them on hold position. Individual ships take around 10-15 seconds to rebuild.
Every time I play the game, I see an effect where a strikecraft goes down, and another one instantly "flies" from the carrier and jumps right back into the squadron. Almost like a teleporting effect, but not quite. It is NOT the microphasing aura from the vasari cap carrier, because I never build those.&n

A few people have told me that the presence of the hoshikos corrupted the test, so that I did not get an accurate result. I suppose more tests need to be done, hopefully either without hoshikos, or with the hoshikos countered. Unfortunately, I don't know how to counter hoshinkos. I think that with all the flak (no pun intended, heh) that carriers are getting, we are at risk of a hard nerf. That will suck. If there will be a nerf, I think that only a minor adjus
