I was vasari, played some tec dude online. I win most of my games but I lost this one. However, can't figure out exactly why (sometimes that happens), so that's why I'm posting this. I mean, I've played dudes that seemed way, way better than this guy, and won. I played a tec dude the other night that had a fleet 10 times the size of this guy's tonight, and I BEAT that guy after a long hard slog. Anyway, enough of that. This was a smaller map, our fleets w

This is the 2nd straight night this has happened to me, in online play. It just caused me to lose a game, because I eventually quit out of sheer frustration. There is a bug that causes a waypoint you set on a planet to at some point shift. For instance, tonight I was playing a heated battle against an aggressive opponent who had just taken one of my asteroids. I counterattacked the asteroid. We both had space whales there and assailants pumping in. He tec
If you nerf carriers, what's to stop a lrf spam repeat?
The answer to that question is "nothing." Don't you just love these people? They think the solution to all their gaming problems is to remove (through nerfing) any unit that offends them from the game.
I yell you what, we can give carriers the firepower of a scout ship if and ever carrier receive a well-needed nerf to say its range...
This is the third straight thread where I've seen you screaming for a nerf to carrier range. That's ridiculous. RANGE IS WHAT MAKES A CARRIER A CARRIER. Your suggestions would nerf carriers into oblivion. Needless to say, I hope none of them are implemented. Ever. And to pre-empt your first retort of
Yes, carrier caps suck. But carrier caps sucking is just an extension of all caps sucking. To whoever mentioned repair cloud - I'm a vasari player. I actually don't think that repair cloud is that good. The problem with it is that you really can't make efficient use of it. For instance, many times one of your ships is getting focus fired. Using repair cloud in this instance means you are only healing one ship with an ability that can heal many ships at on
i don't want to have to level up a starbase the same way i have to level up capships. that would suck. i like the system now where if you need additional power and you have the money, you simply pay for it.
Looks fine to me. I once had a starbase go completely 100% sideways (horizontal), and stay that way. Was kinda cool, haha.
I always assumed it prevented a loss of control of the planet. If you say it merely prevents your enemy from colonizing it, well, that's better than nothing, but kinda sucks. I agree, at the very least they should change the description to more accurately describe what's going on.
As I said, missile batteries are the one pro of a Sova.
You forgot embargo, which is a good ability. If you can pull it off, of course.
High level caps are too much early game, but low level caps late game are equally unacceptable. They need to scale better across a long game.
Don't know if you know this, but Advent get a tech where all capships roll out at level 3.
Do you even play the game? The first cap, counting the factory, is half price.
See further down.
i think AgentOfKharma is referring specifically to cap-ships after the first.
Bingo.
i get the distinct impression that he's playing almost entirely rush maps
Normally 1v1 or 2v2, an occasional 3v3. There is usually rushing by one or more players in all games I play. This doesn't mean that games last
I am not an advent player, having cut my teeth on the Vasari. But I'd like to try them, so I have a question: It is generally recommended by upper tier folks not to build lf for any race, but rather "jump" to the next thing on the tree - assailants for vasari, lrfs for tec. Well, in my test advent game just now, the next thing on the tree is carriers. That's good, but the problem is, they are prohibitively expensive early game, when all you have is a 'roid (I tried c
They are more than worth 50 fleet supply and their resource cost.
If this were true, you'd be building multiple ones right off the bat when a game starts. But seeing as you are a "pro" player (I've seen your name on some list, anyway), I doubt that you do that. Would you like to revise your statement?
So yeah, capital ships seem to suck at the low levels, and they really do. They are equally bad if you build them just to add to an endgame fleet. But that's because capital ships are a long term investment. You can't expect to fill your fleet with level 1-4 cap ships, then expect the caps to excel. It'll never happen.
So you are saying you need to cripple yourself with low level capships in the earlier phases of the game, in order to make a long term investment that ho
You should build the Akkan for its colonization ability (it is superior to having a colony frig running around). Other than that, capships aren't worth it.
Consider "lock teams" option.
Dude, seriously. They cost 50 fleet supply. If you want uber-caps, they need to be priced accordingly.
Of course they should be priced accordingly. Everything should be priced accordingly. If capships are to retain suckiness, price them down a bit. If they are to be "uber-caps" as you speak of, price them up. No arguments there.
The notion that one can replace Cap ships with a handful of standard fleet attack craft is appealing, but maybe a little misguided. Cap ships are not replaced by attack frigates, HC, or carriers. They are replaced by *siege frigates*, since no other unit in the game can attack planets, which is the cap's ulitmate purpose. If you dont build caps, you must build siege frigs. If you factor in the high expense vs general u

I don't want capital ships being a 1 ship fleet that can run over everyone.
I don't think anything will change (at least not radically), and that's fine The game is already out, and it is unfair and kind of dumb to do radical design or balance changes once games are already out. If anything, we are suggesting "tweaks," not radical changes. If they
Played this dude last night. I actually thought I was going to get my ass kicked because I played on his team once recently and he massed a humongus fleet in no time (much bigger than mine) and pretty much owned the map and won the game for us. I usually play Vasari, but wanted to give TEC a try. I opened with an Akkan, he opened with a Marza. All the dude built in the open was caphips. He had 4 or 5, initially (but total built was way more). I saw what h
the fact that it can move also somewhat negates the advantage of the torp frigate, since the SB can move into range and pummel them unless you have an entire fleet of them.
The fact that it can move does not negate the advantage of the topr frigate, because at this point in time torp frigates own SBs. A very small fleet of them will level an SB in seconds. Also, the vasari SB is very slow - you can easily get away from it
I'm guessing that their current stats are placeholders. In other words, look for their stats to change when the final version of the game is released. It seems to me that the correct balance for them should be like siege frigs, i.e. make their armor paper, and make their popcap (or other costs) high.
They'd still be slaughtered by any kind of mid to late game fleet.
But that's immaterial, because they would at least be holding their own and be worthwhile to build. If your lrf goes down but only after taking out 2 or 3 lf, you don't mind because it served its purpose and was worth it to build. You simply build another.
