It is theoretically possible that subverters could gate in close and shut down some of those puppies, but the problem is, your subverters would cost you a hell of a lot more than illums would cost him, plus they are further down the tech tree for you, so this wouldn't work. This is what you should do: take a friend, have him play as advent and send 1 illum to your planet, you try one of each frigate type against it, see which one is cost effective to field ag

That bidding war is GENIUS. GENIUS!!! You should join the Advent. Wait, you're fighting AI right? Or human? Because I've never seen the AI whisper asking for planets. If you did this against human players... all hail. :HOT:
Wow. You really need to come back to real life. I'm starting to wonder if one day you might actually think this game or things in this game might actually exist.
It's called "roleplaying". ROLEPLAYING! Geez! Next you're going to tell George Lucas that Star Wars is a fictional universe and Orlando Bloom that Legolas is not a real person / elf.

Dunroth: Ahh, you should be honored to trade... words with a being of such grace as the Advent. I guess our mighty race could stoop for awhile to attempt to... unfuddle your tiny little minds for a second so you may see our utmost glory. You see, dear little alien, you make the mistake of assuming that our superior race cares such minutiae as... scarring of the ships or anything even hampering the perfect duronium shine polish on our hulls. With our, how do you repugnant gutless won

Durikkan: All ships of all races are more or less exactly the same at the beginning of the game. Well, except for Advent because while the other races get marines, we get zerglings. Advent can Zerg rush. +1 for Advent. And our zerglings suck your antimatter and give it to those who more righteously deserve it. As if we needed more cause to rejoice over our awesomeness. But there are significant differences. Everyone heals differently, much like how a warrior drinks potions, pal

I don't remember rogues being able to tank for damage... Damn rogues. Anyway, you got the list all wrong. TEC are merchants who would sell their own mothers for credits and have ship designs of "Durr, me big and hit you. Hurr Hurr Hurr." Vasari are pansy cowards who run when they can't hear mommy anymore. Their ship designs rely on a woman's strategy of throwing things at you or disabling engines so they can run away better. Advent are ascended gods. We shoot
I have a question. Can you destroy the Pirate base? Getting attacked constantly is pretty annoying, but I have a couple of pretty powerful fleets, so I would like to just send them in and kill them and be done with it.
Yep. Take out their planet and you'll never see another pirate again.

BE CAREFUL WHEN USING THE NOVALITH If you're attacking across galaxies especially. If you advance faster than your novalith shoots, you might end up blowing up your newly developed planets.

Oh, nothing wrong with it. It's just annoying. Annoying. Like your whole misbegotten race of pansy cowards! I'm sure your ancestors must be real proud of you. ANNOYING ANNOYING ANNOYING! Gragh! Real alien men fight with laser beams! *cough* In all seriousness. As a prolific Advent player, I'll safely say that our only real problems in the later stages of the game come from Vasari missiles.

Sounds like that world war 2 battle... erm... Stalingrad was it? Both sides pouring in new units every 10 seconds while not gaining any ground. A temporary fix I can recommend is a sacrificial fleet made up of carrier craft (really cheap if you're Advent) jumping to his main dockyards and blowing up the frigate facilities. It is to my knowledge that a fleet of 10 carriers should make short work of it, and then be able to jump back out with small-ish losses. It would cost him mo

PeskyFly: No one ever said anything about the Progenitor's armament. If you were worrying about that, well... It's just that shield regen that should scare the pants off of you. And as I mentioned earlier, unless you were a Vasari missile hack *points finger*, you're going to be facing fleets of big laser beams that don't take any losses while you suffer staggering amounts until you down it.

Game too fast! Flak OP! Fighter OP!) are so unbalanced. So the conservatives have to work extra hard to get their point across.

Oh...? So the story in the original games are that much better? I only played HW2 and couldn't bother myself to get past the first mission in HW because of the sheer inefficiency of the controls. I'll try to give it another shot considering how much praise it gets for storyline. And seeing as I thought the storytelling in HW2 was pretty damn good... can't wait to see how great it is in the original.

Squidlord: nyarr, there's lots of ways to avoid that fact. Everyone would find it annoying. Could do one of the following: 1. make ship designing something done outside of games. 2. make it singleplayer only and have the game auto pause when you access one of the more attention needed screens like this and the tech tree. I'm sure you could just plunk a Galactic Civs pause feature in if you had the ability to mod a game this extensively. Ahh, to dream. A lot of
They serve as a way to "skip" planets by sling-shotting around the star, and the fast antimatter regen is good for using them as a staging area before an attack.
Huh? How do you do that? Please tell because I hate watching my fleet take 17 years to travel the diameter of the thing.
Ah yes, bribe the pirates, always bribe the pirates. And watch out for the AI outbidding you 3 seconds before the pirates set sail. If you got maxed out defenses on a planet and a medium'ish fleet you can level up your capitals with pirate raids, what very few losses you will suffer will be worth it. Here's a decent strat you could try: Please everyone, so long as you don't have to go out of your way to do it. I don't believe the AI will attack you so long as you don't provoke it if you even have a trade relationship with them. I've never seen it, but don't take my word for it. So, the strategy to avoid getting swarmed is to make as many tentative alliances as possible just by doing what you do. If you constantly attack at least one guy, the others are going to get happy on

Thanks Pnakotus. I was about to explode about how ungrateful these newbies were by insulting those who try to help, which no doubt would have just been stupid. Anyway, it's up to you how you want to play the game. Granted, most of you play against AI and would probably never see the light of multiplayer. It's not a bad thing. It's understandable how unappealing multiplayer can be. What with the difficulty, and the challenge, and the zerg rushing, and the spamming, and the exploitations,

Sheesh. Just give up. You'll never beat the unity. Stop resisting and join us in the light. OT: Kill the mothership first. It's your number one target. Ignore everything else but the mothership. The Advent progenitor is the king of its fleet and it holds everything together. Unless you're a missile dependant Vasari hack, you're not going to do any real damage to an Advent fleet until you down that sunovagun. In fact, if you see more than one level 6+ mothership: all your base a
